I have the Standard Audio System.

The Taycan is my first porsche ever. I couldn't believe that a luxury brand vehicle would have such terrible base audio system.

In my opinion (although I'm not an audiophile), the highs and mids are the only thing that I can hear with the base system. After long discussions with my local/reputable, stereo shop, we're going to start with adding in lows, and expand our way from there to see where needs improving.

I'm adding a JL Amp and 10" slim box subwoofer in my trunk. It'll be mounted to the side wall and only remove 5" of space.

Not sure if anyone else has experience in swapping out the individual speakers. That would be helpful.
Did you end up doing this? Do you have any photos? Where did they connect the amp? Did they do a speaker level input (line level)?

I have ordered the Bose system which comes with a subwoofer but I am a hip hop music fan and like a lot of bass in my music. Most OEM car sound systems don't have enough bass for me so I'm wondering if I'd be able to improve my Bose system (bass wise) if it's not enough for me.

Brakes are important, but after years of optimising them for racing would point out:

1. most deceleration in the Taycan will be achieved by the back torque of regeneration.

2. The ceramic coated discs won't rust but won't be materially better than the standard brakes as brakes.

3. The carbon ceramic brakes will be better for track days, where the discs will be used a lot, but for normal road use won't be better than cast iron, maybe even not quite so good since they aren't quite as good when completely cold.

So for normal use the standard brakes are a good choice, and they wouldn't be on a Porsche otherwise.

The more expensive brakes may be worth it for some people for cosmetic or track day reasons but for most people, including me, the standard ones are as much as you could possibly want.

Adding the clock makes perfect sense if you like it :)

I am less bothered by external appearance than internal - the bit I see most - so am bemused by people spending money adorning the outside - except wheels, I dislike the styling of most wheels...
I agree with your points on brakes and your suggestion that creating your optimum cabin environment is a priority.

But spending a little on the outside can be worth it too. I’ve specified crayon and added as many gloss black accents as I could. So door mirrors bases, door handles and rear wiper are all in gloss black along with ME wheels and sports pack inlays. You have to walk up to the car before you get in and drive it, and I’m sure my attention to detail will bring a little smile to my face each time I approach my car.

After all, the appearance of a dish in a Michelin Star restaurant doesn’t alter the way it tastes, but it’s part of the culinary experience all the same.

Here’s another way of thinking about this.

Your car is not the ideal place to listen to music but it is the ideal a place to enjoy driving and for me, having the right musical accompaniment is an important part of that experience.

I recently watched Casino Royal at The Royal Albert Hall where the soundtrack was played live by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. A fabulous experience and it enhanced my enjoyment of my favourite Bond movie no end.

So, I need the sound to do that job, enhance my enjoyment of the drive. For me, the standard set-up doesn’t cut it but the Bose system is more than enough.

I did. And I love it. I'm a huge Hip hop fan as well so bass is very important for me. They even added an adjustment knob in my footwell.

Here's a photo of where the amp and sub are mounted. Mounted it on the right side because I have the 2+1 fold down seats, and it's a bigger opening on the left. (Don't mind the golf bag, too lazy to take it out).

I should also add that the area where the amp is mounted had ports/holes for speakers. I'm assuming the OEM upgraded sound systems have more speakers mounted here. But with the base sounds, these were empty. Someone with the other systems can probably correct me if I'm wrong.

Hello ,

i’m new on the forum And i read all your comment. I can share my experience.
my ST is delivered with standard audio for several reasons linked to Bose availability but also my choice. I have owned different german brand and it is always the same.
indeed quality of Bose or Burmester are not good for the pricebut this is normal as they have constraint in terms of revenue, mounting time and so on..
just looking to speakers you can see they are bad quality (paper), amplifier is weak and poor, Doors are not damped…etc…
i have asked to a car audio specialist to do a high end system which is really far better than any OEM system’
He is using high end speakers ( hertz), audison amplifiers with HI-res Dsp , damped doors , 200 mm woofers and so on.
at the end, this is far better solution compared to OEM solution for people who cares about sound quality in their cars.
these guys are doing several porsche every month.

I find the standard system good enough for a car.

FWIW the standard bass drivers at the bottom of the front doors are 8” (200mm) units already, making it easy to fit higher spec drivers, though, for me, the standard ones are fine.

The big problem in a car is that the most important thing for quality sound is the position of the speakers in the “room” and the position of the listener relative to the speakers, which is really bad in a car, and loads of widely spaced drivers screws it up more.

Applying digital signal processing can mask the problems a bit but basically, trying to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

Edit
PS Hertz speakers use paper cones too. (pressed pulp 😂 )

The biggest options regret I've ever had was getting the base stereo in my first R8. Since I didn't order that car, I took one at a discount, and regretted that option the entire time I had it. I made sure my 2nd R8 had the B&O radio. (Which is like the Bose upgrade for the Taycan).
interestingly enough I had an R8 with B&O for a few days and thought the Bose on Taycan produces meaningfully better sound.

as i said , the bose and burmester are not very good value .
for the same amount , you can have a better improved sound For those who want to improve it (which is not your case).
A car will never be your home of course.

yes hertz are pressed pulp , not for tweeter. But you cannot compare to the poor oem quality.
