Luke, thanks for the detailed response; glad there's a bright future for the technicians. The thing that would definitely bring me back to the dealership ready to spend is the opportunity to buy significant hardware upgrades such as a new-tech battery pack or infotainment system upgrade that postpones vehicle obsolescence. On the other hand, those compete with new car sales. The answer is in style and performance updates, which compel people with perfectly good Porsches to buy new ones!
I think when we start seeing some Taycan Sport Turismo, GTS, etc. models on the showroom floor in 2 years time it might give some Taycan owners a convincing reason to upgrade when they come in for their first service ;)

Luke-
Since you are now the resident Taycan expert I have a question. I cannot get my Porsche charger to identify my car. When I log into the Porsche Connect portal the charger shows up with the serial number yet when I am at the charger itself, it shows no vehicle associated with the charger. My dealer has tried to find a solution with no luck and supposedly the Porsche area rep. has been advised but no response. Any thoughts as to how to get the charger to recognize my car. I have reset the charger to the factory settings twice and reinstalled but that has not worked. Thanks in advance Luke.

Very different colors, especially once they're on the car. Frozen Blue is almost like a Baby Blue whereas Crayon (Chalk) is closer to a Concrete kind of color...

Marshall,

Could you DM me the VIN to your Taycan? Will try to escalate this to some other Porsche reps in Atlanta and see what is going on.

@LukeManning It was mentioned the 2021 cars will have bigger rear PSCBs, can you confirm?
MY21 Taycan Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) (standard Taycan Turbo) with new dimensions:
  • Front Caliper: 6-piston aluminum monobloc fixed brake calipers (previously 10-piston),
  • Front Rotor diameter 410 mm (previously 415mm) thickness 38 mm
  • Note: Braking distance and the brake pedal feeling are not affected by the modification. The modification comes along with a weight advantage of approximately 24.2 lbs (11 kg).

Looks like they're getting smaller in the front. No mention of larger rear PSCB. Probably to differentiate more between PCCB and the fact that you're not really using the actual friction brakes that much.

That's kind of disappointing, I liked the big 10 pots front calipers.

Luke - Thank you for offering to help to clarify some outstanding issues with Porsche with regards to the Taycan. I'm sure that I am not the only Taycan owner that would like to get an official answer from Porsche on when we can expect resolutions to the following issues or bugs. Anything that you can find out would be appreciated.
  1. Wi-Fi Hotspot does not provide Internet access. Porsche support told me that it was an issue with AT&T; which isn't particularly useful as all I/we care about is getting the problem resolved. What is the status of a resolution?
  2. HomeLink does not pair with GPS (It always shows its location as "off-road")
  3. Porsche Connect (Android) takes an exceptionally long time to connect or drops the connection. I've read in the Forum that the iPhone version of Porsche Connect has the same issue.
  4. The "Connection Status" in Porsche Connect (Android) always displays the "Wi-Fi to Car" link between the router and the PCM in RED and the display reads "No connection to the PCM".

I don't know if I'm technically considered an "official answer from Porsche" so try to take everything I say with a grain of salt! I am learning the car along the same route as y'all do.

In response to your questions:

1. Currently Wi-Fi Hotspot is totally unavailable on all Taycan models from my understanding. It was discussed from the early days of our training that the module is currently turned off. Your guess is as good as mine when they plan on activating it. I believe more testing needs to be done to ensure the reliability of the connection to AT&T.

2. I have been able to pair several of my clients HomeLink with their GPS location with no issues. That being said, it is probably one of the more challenging issues as not only is it related to the HomeLink module, but also to the GPS AND your garage door system. It could be a weak LTE signal in your particular area, or perhaps an isolated issue with your Taycan. I would reach out to 1-800-PORSCHE to see if a resolve might be able to be escalated.

3. I too have Android, and there are multiple applications that are slower on the operating system (thinking Snapchat, Instagram, etc. etc.). The problem with Android applications is that app developers have to not only create an application that works with multiple different versions of Android (Lollipop, Kitkat, etc. etc.) but also across a plethora of devices (Samsung, Pixel, LG, OnePlus, etc. etc.) Porsche's app development team is all based in Germany... There aren't "as many" super innovative/creative/open minded developers in Germany as their are in US or other areas. This is one of the reasons why, especially if you're coming from a Tesla, you will see a huge difference in app support/development. Porsche is more focused on employing engineers to develop racing technology for cars, rather than super innovative software developers. ALSO probably the biggest issue with all of this is that ALL of the Porsche Servers are located in Germany, so when you try to connect to your car your phone is actually pinging a server all the way in Germany.

4. I explained this a bit in another post, but it is my understanding that The Connection Status Circle does not need to be completed all the time. The only time the car connect to your Wi-Fi signal is when it is Plugged In to the Mobile Charger Connect AND the Mobile Charger Connect is connected to your home Wi-Fi signal AND your phone is also connected to the Wi-Fi signal. As long as the half of the circle that goes between your Taycan, the Porsche Server, and your Phone then your Taycan has a connection to the server for OTA updates and to your phone for connecting to the car via the application. The only reason you'd need/want the other half of the circle to be completed is when the car is plugged in, charging, and requiring an OTA software update so that it downloads faster.

Hopefully this helps answer some of your questions a bit. I do think there's some major updates coming along very soon. Things like expansion of Over the Air software updates to include new modules, Lock and Unlock functionality via Porsche Connect, Horn and Flashing functionality via Porsche Connect, Wi-Fi Hotspot Activation, and even New function for the Breakdown Call to focus on diagnosis of the vehicle and a possible live repair of a customer's car through remote diagnostic functions might be on the way.

Just keep your eyes peeled, and keep in communication with your dealer! The only way Porsche will ever know about any of these questions/issues is if y'all continue to bring them up!

that’s not good! In the uk you have to spec these brakes if taking the emission wheels and it could be justified by the massive calipers! Really disappointed these have been down sized. Visually speaking are they a lot smaller?

Going to be roughly the same size as the standard Steel Pads/Rotors.

I think they'll look fine in the Mission E-Wheels. That being said, could always try to snag a 2020 with the larger calipers if you can find one!

Luke - Thank you for your quick response and answers.

With respect to item #4; to clarify:
  1. The Porsche Connect app shows that is no connection between the home Wi-Fi router and the PCM,
  2. The car is plugged into the Mobile Charger Connect
  3. The Mobile Charger Connect has been properly configured and paired with the Wi-Fi access point and router, - AND -
  4. My phone is also connected to the same Wi-Fi router.
Therefore, all the conditions that you enumerated in your response to #4 which should complete the Wi-Fi/Router connection and turn the Wi-Fi to Router leg of the circle green are satisfied. So, unless I am missing something (which is very possible) there is still a problem.

Get the discs are barley any different size wise. Are the callipers noticeable smaller? If they are smaller why can we not order the mission e wheels without spending the extra £££ on upgraded brakes! Doesn’t make sense to me? Not really expecting an answer, but views on visual differences appreciated.

Gary,

Doesn't sound like you're missing anything then!

Let me do some more research into this and see if I can come up with some more answers. You are not the first person I've had bring this to my attention.
