Yes it has both switched and permanent 12V. Switched is shared with mirror. Permanent is dedicated to dashcam. There is also 3 wires ran to the back (which you can use for power or whatever you want) as well as a 50Ohm coax (which I used to connect rear blackvue camera). I posted all the details in this post.
Thanks

What "lots of bugs" are currently with the FitCamX? Not debating, just would like to be aware as a new owner of one.
Biggest bugs were:
1) app almost never connecting to the unit. FitCamX even gave me tech support and then a new unit but problems still remain
2) sometimes the unit just stops recording even when you have it set to purge old files and make room for new files or even half the memory card is free. The major problem with this is you don't know that it is no longer recording. It can be working great for several months and then one day whatever bug in the software just prevents any new files from being recorded. You won't know unless you check the unit every day to make sure it is recording.

That would be a deal breaker for me. I treat dashcams like air bags. I don't actually want to use them but I want them to be operational when needed (which is when something happens and I need a record of it). This is why I never used Teslas build-in dashcam (ok, I used it as an additional dashcam, but still installed a primary 2 channel dedicated Blackvue), as I have read of people encountering issues with the Tesla native dashcam.

The concept and installation of the FitcamX dash cam made it the best choice for me. The specs (4k 2160P) and resulting videos meet my needs, and the seamless physical integration looks better than anything else. I have the front cam only, but there are many threads here that discuss installation of both front and rear cameras. I've had no technical issues with the camera. I access it via the self-generated Wifi every other month to clean out any unneeded locked videos, etc.

I queried the spec with FitcamX as other reviews had said it is not true 4K see attached response. The image sensor is a Galaxy GC4653 which when you look at the data sheet only supports 2k, that said it produces good enough quality for most purposes.

After fitcamx shipped me a different style cam than the one on their pic (and same as in the pictures above this message), I ended up with some other brand at half the price from aliexpress that has that same look ... does the job just fine.

Only one issue, it stores "accident" videos in a separate folder so the clip of the event in question doesn't get overwritten ... turns out it classifies all my stoplight sprints as being accidents LOL

I have the Fitcam X. I've been extremely happy with it!! I've heard some people complain about the app, but I if I ever need to retrieve the video file I simply eject the sd card and plug it into a computer and I can access all the files!! So, I've never had any issues with any kind of app.

The killer application of that dash Cam is the clean install. I'll give up a little bit of possible video quality for that type of Installation. all I need with my dash cam is the ability to determine who's at fault for the accident

I had 2 CH Blackvues in my Tesla before they developed Dashcam into their vehicles. Captured tons of stuff throughout the years.

I have a DR970X 2CH that I’ll try to install this weekend in my CT. The unit itself might be in the under trunk storage in the rear and maybe use a battery with the 12v outlet for charging power. So compact in the Taycan not sure where else I can stick the unit yet.

Which unit do you mean? You can see where I placed the front and back cameras here:

My previous Blackvues are like what you installed but the DR970X has 2 standalone cameras connected to the main box unit. The cameras are a lot smaller.

Oh, just front cameras (the small one is an IR driver facing one)? Is that a separate GPS antenna (the one with red triangle)? I wish I had a separate GPS, but not enough to change my install now. As for where to place them, under the lower screen in front might be a good place, or hide in the foot wells.

Sorry that was a bad example. I don’t have IR. One is front facing and one is rear to the outside of the car. The little button is a Bluetooth receiver you can mount in your car. Tap it to record an event. I probably wont use it. For GPS, you’ll have to plug in an external little module and run it back to the box.

If both front and back cameras, perhaps in the trunk under the floor, or if feeling adventurous, hide the under the side panels (near Taycan's own BCM2 or the Engine ECU). Then run both camera cables to the hatch, then use existing prewire from the hatch to the front. You could even wire pre-wired power similarly (box would be powered from the hatch, in the front just have a short stub to route power from front to back).

Got the cameras installed and reviewed your post and some others on the hardwiring. I don’t have a multimeter but seems like the hardwiring doesn’t provide enough juice through the wiretap to power up the cameras. Using the same taps, I can charge up the BlackVue battery.
got tired of working in the dark so I’ll give it another try tomorrow. Currently, battery in the trunk floor board, connected to the cigarette lighter to charge and powering the camera. I rather have it hardwired and going to try it again tomorrow with some daylight.
