Thanks

What does the Ohme app actually do?

To capture the overnight rate, I'd be inclined to just use the built in timer on my EVSE (Wallbox Pulsar). Or is it not as simple as that?
It’s the app for the Ohme wall charger. It’s used for timers, settings.etc

I believe Ohme is the only supported charger currently on Octopus Intelligent, it does provide schedules but so far my best result was using the Taycan timer to limit charge to 85% before 5:30am. According to Octopus they are able to manage all that in the cloud but it doesn't seem that Porsche is supported. Have to assume the integrations will get better but the work-around performed OK last night and only cost me £4.65, which is an improvement! The app does the cost calculation for you and shows you all the charge stats.

To answer your question, yes you could capture the overnight rate with any charger/timer combination but you might not get Octopus Intelligent...

I do similar with mine. Ohme is setup to only turn on if the price per kWh is 10p or less (the cheap rate price).
In the evening I just plug the car in and it sorts itself out. Super easy.

Last-nights charge cost me £2.91 for 29.1 kWh of energy.

Yes the Ohme charger is the only one currently supported for Intelligent Octopus (though I believe support for the Zappi is supposedly coming). At some point they may add the Taycan to the supported vehicles too (at which point you could use it with any charger just set to dumb mode).

I'm not sure the chrome app is needed, why add cost and complexity?
We all know when the cheap electricity tariff is available so why not simply set the in-built porsche timer accordingly.
Or am I missing something that is going to change my life for the better?

I just did a back of a fag packet calculation and for me switching to either of the octopus EV tariffs would end up costing me more overall. Largely driven by the inordinate amount of electricity we seem to use at home, relative to car charging. I think the next door neighbours must have tapped my meter as the even the 'high household' usage example included on my bill doesn't touch mine!

Guess I finally need to bite the bullet and get a smart meter to discover the culprit(s), though seems my supplier not offering them at the minute.....

Octopus have the following statement regarding the benefits;

"Intelligent Octopus customers benefit from a longer off-peak window allowing them to save money on EV charging and the energy use of their home. Customers tell us when they need their car ready and Octopus will find the best time to charge.

If Octopus schedules a charge outside of the cheaper night rate hours, customers still get the lower rate for all their EV and home during that period."

On my first trial I ended up charging to 100% and this meant a longer charge than the 6 hour window - but I didn't get billed the normal 41p rate for the extra use. Not sure it's explained well enough currently as it's still a Beta service but my maths show it will save me £95 a month compared to me previous Octopus tariff.

The Intelligent Octopus tariff requires that you do at least one full "Intelligent" charge a month to remain on the tariff, and you'll only be allowed on the tariff in the first place following a successful test charge using their app, which requires you to either have a compatible vehicle (i.e. one which they are able to schedule charges on directly), or a compatible charger which they can control the timings of. At present the Taycan isn't supported directly, so you would have to have the charger instead, and currently the Ohme is the only charger they support.

Thanks, now I understand the need for the app.
For me, my four hours is enough.

As a tight fisted engineer I am aware of the power requirement of all my stuff and, with the exception of my wife forgetting she boiled the kettle and re-boiling it several times per day we don’t use much energy we don’t need, so no room for economising on our general usage.
I also don’t do a daily journey to work so I decided to, basically, charge at standard rate to still get standard rate for the rest of the time.

Heating is what costs big money btw, everything else we have is negligible, so we only heat the rooms we are using and only when we are using them, the unoccupied rooms of the house is left unheated - so a big step up in consumption when we had a houseful for Christmas! With small people in the house keeping doors shut is the most difficult bit!

I have just started a switch from Octopus to Ovo to try their Charge Anytime tariff. This is a type of use rather than a time of use tariff. Normal rate stays at +/- 33p/kwh and scheduled charging is charged at 10p/kwh by a credit for kwh used for scheduled charging. Works with most EVs including the Taycan by linking their App with My Porsche App. Similar to OI in that you set SOC and time required and they schedule time of charging to best match low use periods etc. I'm sure there will be some gremlins but I worked out that my domestic electricity consumption would go up by £630 ish on Octopus Go daytime rate and I couldn't see us shifting much domestic use to Octopus off peak times.

Yes, this should work. It is based on their Kaluza platform…
Has been around for a while, I‘ve seen it under test environment and when OVO was developing the platform.

Thanks, my switch date is the 15th then I have ti get accepted onto Anytime unless it has already gone on general release, although I have already had an email inviting me to download the Anytime App.
Kaluza seems to cover a wide range of cars which is good.
Will post results on ease of use in due course

Hi, just registered my interest on line. It only listed 5 or so compatible chargers ( Indra or ohme) and didn’t seem to list compatible cars? Does it only work with specific chargers?

Also, if you need to charge for 8 hours to replenish battery will this all be at 10p?
