This was a very helpful video when we started with the Taycan in 2020. Don’t know if you have seen it, but this help a lot of us in the beginning!

there’s no explicable reason why this should work and what I shared doesn’t though, right? Unless the whole thing is simply a total mess.
I agree with your statement. My assumption at this point is that your car has a bug. If you want to try duplicating my setup, you have the info. I hope you get it sorted.

Sounds logical! But I have found it does not always follow logic. The only thing I could think of here would be to reduce the profile setting to a lower setting say 70% and then set the timer at 85% for tomorrow at 07.00 .

I would also like to know how much power you get from your street lamp post. Maybe tha car has not got enough time unr´til 02.00 to charge all the way to 85%. And when the profile finally hits that it stops for a while and then it has no further instructions! Then it might well start again and just completely charge the battery. Not logical, I know but this is German engineering at its finest!

That is why I have had success with setting the timer on repeat
It’s all an insane mess.

even if I set the timer to many hours longer than it needs it still overshoots it

That was my guess too. Mine has the timer for later (0530) and set for daily repeat, and “optimised charging” on. Any variance from this and it keeps going beyond 85%.

Well, if nothing else I think we’ve concluded that it’s not very intuitive and there is no simple (clear/well defined) answer.

Porsche customer service are useless when I email them (they don’t even reply half the time) so will try befriending some of the Porsche connect developers on LinkedIn to ask them.

Will let you know if anyone replies with a definitive answer.

Ah, I missed the not available for DC charging point before. I’m using the street lamp chargers here in London.

do you reckon this could be the reason it just keeps charging? Totally mental if so!

thanks again
I may not have an answer for you but here are a couple of thoughts.
Don't trust the app, half the time what you set on it does not go to the car. To be sure the car's going to do what you want, look at the charging screen in the car and be sure there is a white line at 85% and a time when it's to get there.
If you forget to tick the profile box (blue tick in my photo), what you set won’t work (probably why 'repeat' seems to be popular).
Finally, direct charging, if that's pressed, all bets are off and it will go straight to 100%

Thanks, but yes, have made sure the car has the settings too, and it still ignores the limit :(

I never use the Porsche app timers or profiles. I use the timer/profile in the Ohme charger app. Has worked every time so far.

What a lovely story.

absolutely adding zero value to this discussion though.

Have already said the specific public chargers being used don’t allow you to set any limits

I think it depends how long after the end of the time you go back to your car and unplug.
i.e. if you set it to be ready for 7am and you unplug it around 7am then you assume it works as you say.
The problem comes where you set it to be done at 7am but you don't come back until 12pm, then you'll find it's well overshot the target.
It makes no sense to me that Porsche keep telling us to not charge past 85% and then make it so hard for us to ensure that doesn't happen.
There no way to tell it to stop charging from the app, which is also totally awful design!
I agree completely. I can tell the vehicle to stop charging at EA remotely but Porsche doesn’t allow me to do this at all. Not very smart when Porsche wants us to be so careful by not charging past 85% for their own benefit. They don’t make it easy…

Read through the whole thing looking for the obvious to help.

Confirmed this is in fact AC charging at 10kW or so and Direct Charge is OFF.

Solution 1: Standard procedure to just set Profile (location independent) for 85% and Optimized. Make sure the EVSE is a dumb one and no Timers. End of story. Tested by many. Car will start charging immediately to 85% and STOP.

Solution 2: However, if you start playing with Timers, and want the car charge to 85% by departure time, then the obvious miss is that it MUST be recurring or you set a ONE OFF dummy Timer way into the future if you do not have predictable daily recurring schedule, because, this is how we verified with multiple tests the logic works.

Non-Recurring Timer like I saw above for the Sunday, if it expires even though you said go to 85%, will be executed, BUT the car is looking for the NEXT instruction on what to do and if there is NO recurring Timer or ONE OFF Timer, then it will restart to charge to 100%.

I am on my 2nd Taycan and have had no issues. This is is my set up:

Profile:
General profile ticked.
Minimum charge set to 25% ie if the charge level is below this it will charge the car to 25% even if a timer is set.
Set preferred charging tome
Preferred charging time: 11pm to 6.30am

Timer: I have two of these. I select either one depending on whether I want to charge to 85% or 100%.

1st timer: date and departure time: daily 6.30am
Charge (ticked)
Target charge: 85%
Precool/heat to 20.5: not selected

2nd: date and departure time: daily 6.30am
Charge (ticked)
Target charge: 100%
precool/heat to 20.5: not selected

note that the charge option is ticked when setting up each timer.

Hope this helps

Your number 1 doesn’t work. This is what I always used to do but since the latest recall software update it just keeps going up.

number 2 could makes sense so will try it next time I charge!

thanks.

why is the repeat button important if this is functioning correctly?

I may not want to repeat it. But if I set it to 85% for tonight then it should stop at 85% tonight. Regardless of what I set it to for completely different days.
I just posted. Repeat is required or if you say you do not want to repeat then set one off timer into the future (dummy) to stop charging at 85%.

I think we had another case in the UK only where Solution 1 does not work. Then as others pointed out there is a problem introduced with the latest software update if it worked for your before.
