I have a cheaper night time tariff from 12.30am -430am and would like to only charge in these times.
Porsche makes this needlessly complex!

I had a similar goal for an overnight charging window.
Here is what to do, put simply:

Profiles:
  • Delete all but the general charging profile
  • Set the minimum charge to 25%
  • Set to "preferred charging period" and set your window of 12:30AM -> 4:30AM
Timers:
  • Create one timer, 4:30 AM
  • Repeat for all days
  • Ensure charging is on, and set the slider to your desired daily charge level (85% is recommended, avoid charging to 100% unless you're on a trip to increase battery longevity.)
That's it.

Any time you plug in, if your car is < 25% it will immediately charge to that level regardless of time. That is the defined behavior of "minimum charge" on the profile and cannot be set lower.

Note: the charging may begin earlier than 12:30AM if your battery is low enough; it will optimize for meeting your daily charge level at the departure time over saving money in the charging window.

Why do you need the first timer at 12h30? It will do the same if you just set one at 4h30 at 85% SoC.

If it had to start before 12h30 it means the car needs a longer time to charge to 85% and can’t be charged during the best hours anyway. If so you could charge more often or if you do use to much battery % on your daily drive it is just not possible. Or you need a more powerful charger.

By setting a departure time at 4h30 it will included the four cheap electricity hours and the ones outside this timeframe would have been necessary anyway.
It’s to limit the start time to 12:30, possibly at the expense of not reaching the target SoC depending on starting SoC.

It depends on what you want to be flexible. Charge time or SoC.

We’ve gone over this, but it behaves the same without the profile.
You're right in practice. I guess it makes me feel like I'm doing something by setting the preferred window in the profile, even if the timer logic makes it moot.

All of this is just so dumb. Porsche should have just copied Tesla.

Charge Level:
|-----------------------------|-----] 100%
[X] Enable Scheduled Charging
Start Charging at: [8:00 PM]

Simple, understandable.

Another better solution and what I do now:
  • Throw your PMC+ or PMCC in the trunk, closet, or recycle bin (it's junk anyway)
  • Get a Wallbox or similar charger with "smart" capability
  • Configure it to charge within your window
  • Set the minimum charge in your profile to 85% or whatever daily level you want.

This should always be step 1 for setting up charging in North America. 😜

My new car came with the more expensive PMCC with wifi and touchscreen...I wish I could have just handed it back and taken $1100 off the bill!

Do you have a smart charger ? If so use the App for the charger instead of the Porsche timer. I have an Andersen Charger and use the konnect app to

charge just between 0030 and 0430 for the Octopus Go tariff.

Hello - thanks for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it 🙏

so sorry but this has all gone over my head.🤯

i especially changed energy provider last week to Octopus so that I could take advantage of cheaper electricity from 12.30am to 430am

all I require is a timer to only charge in this time range.

i didn’t realise it would be so complicated 🤔
Alternatively, use a charger like EnelX Juicebox and set it to only charge during your low tariff window.

I’m on Octopus Go, same as the OP, and this is exactly what I do.

I’m interested to know if you get charging errors reported by the car with the smart charger controlling things?

I originally tried to do it this way (using an Ohme smart charger), but because of charging errors I decided against it - I thought it might be interfering with battery management or conditioning going on “behind the scenes”.

… or perhaps an update may have solved it? 🤞

Do you know what happens if the car wants to start charging and the charger it self is not active yet because of the set profile. Will you get a charge error? And is it solved automatically when the. Barter is switched on?

It causes a conflict. To keep things simple I have only set up a 85% charge as a general profile. I use the Konnect app to control the charger (0030 - 0430) for Octopus Go.

Yes, but in my experience it doesn't prevent things from working. Just throws some irritating errors.

Right now my electricity time of use discount is off until April, so I'm just rocking 85% minimum charge on the general profile, no scheduling on the Wallbox.

It just charges up to 85% every time I plug in, right away.

Here's what I think you can do. I'm running a test right now to confirm:

  • Deactivate all Profiles
  • Make a timer with the following settings:
    • Repeat: all days
    • Departure time: 12:30am
    • Precondition: Off
    • Charging: On
    • Charge To: 25%
  • Make a second timer with the following settings:
    • Repeat: all days
    • Departure time: 4:30am
    • Precondition: Off (unless you want the car conditioned at this time)
    • Charging: On
    • Charge To: desired SoC (e.g. 85%)
