I do 120 miles per day round trip 3 days a week. I would say that you should get a Taycan that is set up for the long haul if you are going to do this. The right model, with optimal wheels, and good driver support would make this possible and enjoyable without having to make a pitstop to charge.

IMHO, 120 miles * 3 * 52 = 18.720 miles … compared with 52.000 is huge difference 🤷‍♂️
I was doing about 50 miles round trip only, every day, i was charging at work (22kw) and i believe that charging is not a problem, while 52k miles per year is …

And unlikely to only be 52k/yr when you drive on the weekend or go anywhere from work.

I feel like “Porsche miles” are like dog years. You don’t see a lot of high mileage ones. And if you do, the resale rounds to zero.

Anyone around here put 200k miles on a Taycan?

If I was dead set on putting that kinda mileage on an EV, I would buy a used Model 3 or Model S with the longest range possible. They would make better “highway warriors” and would cost significantly less and probably spend way less time in the shop.

I love my Taycan, but would be very worried trying to put that kinda mileage on it.

Out of curiosity , I did a nationwide search for used Taycans looking for any with over 100k miles.

I only found one in the whole country. And it’s only 106k miles-

Tesla model S?

Tons over 100k. In fact here is one over 350,000 miles! (Super cheap)

i wouldn’t not buy EV for a such load, especially not Taycan or EQS.
Maybe Tesla with selfdriving functionality, but not such highend cars like Taycan or EQS.
Baffling reasoning. If one is going to be subjected to such a brutal commute, why do it in something as sparse and uncomfortable as a freaking Tesla if you can afford a Taycan ?

Frequent flyers don't grind it in coach if they have the means.

Ask the people here who own both a Model S and Taycan (I’ve seen quite a few).

They’ll tell you which is more comfortable for long drives. I’ve seen more than one say it’s the S. https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/model-s-plaid-to-taycan.28788/

Just to be clear…… I don’t really like Teslas. But this may be a good use case for one.

You didn't have to provide the proof. I am shocked at that rate. This must be why I have had a fairly easy time recruiting employees to move from SoCal to Houston......all the while I want to move to Durango Colorado!

Model S definitely not more comfortable for long drives. The seats suck compared to the Taycan, the NVH is much worse and so on. The only things going for it are better self driving functionality and cheaper price. And because you're in the US most likely if something breaks it can be fixed quicker.

As for 52k miles/year, I don't see what the big deal is. The battery certainly doesn't care - we had recently a 337000km Taycan with 88% SoH.

I don't see why you should not daily the Taycan if you can afford it, it's a daily car. It's not like a 911 where you have to worry about depreciation for every km you put on it. The Taycan's gonna be worth nothing anyway in 5 years, just like every other high end German 4 door saloon, regardless if it has 30000 or 100000km.

Seat comfort for sure will vary based on personal preference.

That mileages is impressive for a Taycan. I couldn’t find a single example that high in the US, but good to know at least one person drove it that much.👍

My electricity is between 42 to 48 cent kwatt/hr.. it is pretty expensive here. So not much saving and will be easily eaten up by increase in insurance and car registration
Wow, I pay avarage 33 cents per kWh in Munich and I am begin ripped off! I pay 9.8 cents per kWh in China, no increase in 25 years.

I've heard that in Ethiopia, they pay 0.5 cents per kWh. A full charge with 95 kWh would cost there just 48 cents - less than half a dollar!

Over here we have free floating price (unless you pay for a fixed package), the price changes every 15 minutes and this week it ranged from 5 cents per kWh to 69 cents per kWh.
Porsche Taycan Considering 1st EV but... 1764328509024-h5

You know the price 1 day ahead, so when you have multiple chargers/EV, then solution is a cutoff price limiter:

Porsche Taycan Considering 1st EV but... 1764328582718-kj

When the price is higher than 11 cents, then it turns the EV chargers off automatically, so I can just plug the cars in and not care about it. Sometimes have to adjust the limit if really need to charge and the price isn't good multiple days in a row.

To be fair, the per Capita income in Ethiopia is around $1,000 per year.

I doubt many people worried about the cost to charge their new Taycan over there.

Then again….. I did find two for sale there!

EV is fine for long journeys as long as the drive is comfortably within the range. I use Audi Etron quattro for work 110miles round trip with around 30 miles of range left over. As an SUV its more comfortable for long trips than my taycan. That said if I had to keep 1 car it would be the taycan just for looks and drivability. You will depreciate the hell out of it in 2 years but hey its only money....

can you expand on this - what exactly is turning off the charger, is that a separate device you put into the circuit, a feature of the charger itself, or a service your electricity provider offers? i also have floating prices but not sure how to automate. best i can currently do is look at the prices in the phone app and act on it manually. my electricity provider does offer some smart charging capability via gridio.io (are you using that?) but it's talking to a vehicle instead of the charger and thus is limited to supported models (says "VW group is coming soon" and does not look like porsche will be included)

I am using a Sonoff TH Elite. This has a dry contact.
Almost all the chargers on the market usually have a "key" input so that you can wire a key/switch in to turn them on or off.

The key input on my chargers works by exposing two pins that when shorted together block the charger.
So I have those wired in the Sonoffs dry relay to the normally open input. When the Sonoff gets energized by controlling it from Home Assistant, then the chargers are blocked, when it is de-energized the chargers can charge the cars.
If something happens to the Sonoff or if it is manually turned off, then the chargers operate like it's not there.

Just look at your charger manual if you have a "key" or "lock" input on it.
My chargers are additionally networked via CAN and the master sends the "key" status to all the slaves, so I needed to wire it only to the master charger, and it blocks the slave as well. Works like a charm.
