My PMC+ is overheating causing charging errors on my Taycan so while I get that fixed by Porsche I decided to get a new EVSE. I wanted something basic that looked decent and would be reliable. After a lot of research I decided to take a risk on a fairly new EVSE from Lectron. I’ll check back in on this thread over time to report on reliability but so far on day 1 everything is good. Installation was simple and the Taycan charged exactly as expected.

This EVSE has an LCD display that shows some basic information. It does NOT connect to anything via wifi or Bluetooth. Here are some photos of the V-BOX during and after the install.

Also, here’s an image showing the larger plug and cord of the V-BOX compared the the smaller thinner ones on the PMC+.

Here’s a quick video showing what this thing looks like in a dark garage…

7 months since installing this EVSE and no issues at all. The next 6 months should be a good test as we are approaching summer in central Texas and garage temperatures can get pretty high.

this is great to hear - and I love the options and I'm super glad…

this is the core of my disappointment w/Porsche in this space - there are lots and lots and lots of options in this space NONE of which are as wonky or troublesome as the PMC+/PMCC - it does not require masters of engineering to "solve this problem" - and Porsche's solution in this space is both problematic and expensive relative to virtually _ANY_ other choice - basically you can throw a rock and get a better more reliable and more cost effective EVSE than what Porsche is offering - it's a real disappointment that:
  1. porsche screwed this up
  2. they haven't "admitted it" and seem to be doubling down on their flawed problem
I'm super happy to hear that this EVSE is reliable, compatible, and affordable - and will consider it "added" to the list of alternatives for the deeply flawed Porsche offerings…

Update: it’s been a really hot summer in Austin so far (many days in a row over 100) and my Lectron EVSE is faithfully providing electricity to my vehicle without any issues. The handle and plug are slightly warm to the touch after hours of charging, which is expected. So far so good.

Update: It was an insanely hot summer in TX but I am happy to report that this Lectron EVSE performed flawlessly with my CT4. I still give 👍👍 to this EVSE as a solid option for providing power to your Taycan. Happy charging.

Update: It's August 18th, 2024 and just 1 day shy of 2 years ago that I installed this EVSE. Over that time it has performed flawlessly. I have had exactly zero issues with it in this Texas heat. It's a pleasure compared to the overheating POS that Porsche provided with the car.

there is no reason for Porsche:
  • Porsche EVSE power supply cable to run so hot
  • Porsche EVSe to overheat
  • have the reliability problems they are having
there are alternative products that demonstrably behave better and with less thermal stress - Porsche's approach in this space has been tone-deaf and poorly engineered.

I've owned EV's since 2011 - charged them since then also - until I received my 2020 Taycan it never entered my mind that an EVSE could run so hot in normal operation.

Porsche's approach seems to be to engineer their product to tolerate/handle the heat…this is one approach

Other vendor's EVSE's are less heat tolerant but run cooler - thereby not needing to be over-engineered to handle the heat…

I prefer my products to run as cool as possible, as opposed to running hot but designed to handle it.

the Porsche EVSE continues to be un-impressive IMHO

so glad this particular EVSE has been flawless for you - I never envisioned an EVSE could be "problematic" until I encountered the Porsche product.

Update: It's October 31, 2025 (Halloween in the US 👻) and the V-box continues to perform flawlessly. I have not had my car for the past 3 weeks due to battery modules needing replaced, but this Lectron EVSE has worked as expected through 3 hot Austin TX summers now.
