So if I am still under "free" contract with Porsche like at EA...does this mean it will also be free at Chargepoint stations?
that's unclear to me personally - the answer is "maybe" until we get more specifics

what it does mean is you have only one app/payment/invoice/account to deal with - so your charge point sessions can be charged/initiated via your Porsche account.

as to if the cost is included with any "free" charging - I doubt it but who knows.

Um, I hear you, but the dead-last thing I’d want now is a Porsche-branded charging network. EA does exist, I’m hopeful for more partnerships, but they should probably stick with cars. (And okfine announcements, too.)
Porsche, with 3 Porsche charging lounges in Germany and 1 planned for Atlanta, already has an "upscale" network with plaudits from the press and EV community.

Good news is that the more numerous Mercedes 400kw sites planned for US will be open to non-Mercedes public.

BMW announced same deal on their end prior and with other networks - Porsche not exactly leading the pack (from ad I noticed in Roundel mag.)!!

I estimate a 0.00% chance (with +/- 0.00%) that PCNA has reached any sort of agreement with CHPT that Taycan drivers will not have to pay for such charging.
As far as payment, it all ends up on my credit card statement, so whatever. Plus I already have a ChargePoint RFID card.

Wait, what is the problem here? As far as I understand, this means:
- no need for a CP account/app
- CP fast DC chargers do exist (~50 within 50 miles of my location), and presumably more will be installed/built

Should they have, like, said nothing instead?

(In fact, I was pleasantly surprised - I thought their high-speed chargers are 50-60kW, but a random sampling around me shows 125kW.)
The typical CP DCFC unit is 62.5kW.
They are often installed in pairs such that they share the power source.
So CP lists them as 125kw.

However, even when I've had a CP stall all to myself, the best I've received is in the 80s.

I've also seen many reports that if you're the second driver to arrive, it doesn't balance, so you end up in the 40s.

I've experienced the opposite of that, being the first to arrive, then I start receiving notifications that the power is now being split upon another driver's arrival, but I sure haven't noticed much if any drop-off, so I suspect I went from high 80s to low 80s, and the other driver is in the 40s.

That said, all the CP DCFC units I've visited have at least hit that, and the handshake is fast and reliable with my CP RFID card.
Which means that whatever this Porsche announcement is adds no value to already having a CP RFID card in my card.

The CP RFID card also works at the widespread CP L2 installations.
Unfortunately, if both plugs are in use, then the speed is only slightly over just plugging your own EVSE into a 110v outlet.

While this announcement is not cause for rejoicing, progress is progress, and any increase in Plug & Charge networking and simplifying the overall charging process is appreciated IMHO.

On a positive note, I took a short road trip to Corvallis OR from Seattle, and tested the EA network along the way. While probably only needing to charge once, I decided to stop more frequently (3 times down, 2 back) just to test the network. The good news is that it worked every time, and only one station required me to initiate the charge from the EA app. There were also no "down" chargers at any of the EA spots where I stopped.

Like I said, progress is progress, and I'll take it ?

Any progress is welcome, but this sounds like the kind of progress that is actually just marketing disguised as progress.
By contrast:
  • Upgrade all the typical CP DCFC setups of paired 62.5kw "Express" units for only two drivers to charge at near-Bolt speeds up to three dual-cable "Express Plus" units for six drives to hit their charging curves?
  • Or how about, upgrade all the typical CP AC setups of dual-cable CT4000 units ("The industry standard Level 2 charging station") that deliver at only slightly 2x basic household outlets to CP6000 units that are comparable to what anyone installs at home?
  • Or just upgrade the CPE100 24kW (yes, 24kW, not 240kW) DCFC in Greenfield MA that is perfectly situated for NYC & CT EV drivers visiting to Vermont?
To be fair to CP, all of their units are independently owned.
So none of this is happening no matter what.

The CP business model is to sell inexpensive underperforming equipment to site owners, who are either counting on gov't subsidies and/or not realizing that this equipment is so slow that it probably won't generate much net income for the site owner.

Either way, CP is the kind of network that gives public charging a bad name.

Appreciate the effort but I've only seen 62.5kW chargers on the routes I normally drive. Expand more 250kW+ charging stations and I'll be happy.

This feature has now become even more pointless given that the ChargePoint account can be added to Apple Wallet: I just put my phone up to the charger then immediately start charging ... very slowly of course ... usually 6kW for L2 ... or a max of 80s kW for DCFC at a paired 62.5kW setup when solo ... or max in the 20s kW at some supposed 62.5kW single chargers.
(But at least ChargePoint does make payment easy, unlike some networks that don't seem to want to accept your money.)
