I’ve settled on:
Intelligent Octopus Go (7.5p/kWh between 23:30 and 05:30)
Porsche PMC+ EVSE via 32amp commando socket
Porsche charging profile and timers (Octopus app kept overcharging my battery to 100% not 85%)
Dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, immersion heater all on late night timers

Hmm. i just checked IO and i have a compatible charger - wallbox. So i wonder if tuning IO into that rather than the car would avoid the issues you have with 85/100% charging. food for thought!

Forgot to mention I use the Porsche PMC+ EVSE connected via 32amp commando socket (so no smart charger). I have “Smart Charging” disabled in the Octopus app as that’s what kept overcharging the car.

Wow, the standing charge varies a lot by region doesn’t it. Mine’s 48.6p/day.

A good move on their part, suspect they lost a lot of customers to Octopus. They need to fix their billing system to avoid retrospective charging credits affecting monthly payments and put household and charging on the same cycle. Otherwise you’ll never see an accurate bill at any point.
If I recall correctly, OVO only offer the reduced rate for charging rather than all overnight consumption being billed at the reduced rate. On that basis, despite OI being less reliable than OVO Anytime, OI with Porsche timers seems the best overall option for me.

I presume you are not on OVO CA, as there’s no issues with billing. The credit gets applied monthly and deducted from your bill, so no issues with charging cycle, or accuracy of your direct debit amount. Yes, reduced rate only on charging your ev, so You miss out on the cheaper rate for the home. I was with octopus but the wife refused to schedule the washing machine during the night, and the dishwasher didn’t have a timer. I did heat the hot water in the cheap rate so this saving is lost. Flip side is I can charge my car at anytime and a full battery if required, which I often require all at 10p which is now 7p, which can mean a big saving! A full battery for circa £7 whenever I want, which is a bargain, and I do regularity charge during the day, if I need the range ( I have the smaller battery and it’s my daily work car so more important for me and obviously less important if you do low miles). OVO customer service has got better but is way behind octopus, but after a few initial teething issue OVO anytime has been faultless. The other thing to consider is day rate/ standing charge. The reason I left octopus was as they were canning me on day rate. OVO is now 27.9p day rate, 7p to charge your car anytime, and 43p daily standing charge.

I was thinking about moving back to octopus, but now at 7p I won’t, unless of course octopus react and make an overall comparable package that suits my needs.

Seems octopus are still robbing Peter to pay Paul and loading the day rate. Just checked my area and currently 31p day rate if I go to OI. 3p more than Ovo for every single kw I use from 530-1130 ( of which I use a lot!) and more expensive to charge car now with more restrictions. Would save 2p on standing charge a day though!

I was on OVO CA. The billing issue is as follows: household billing date 28th of each month. CA crediting date 1st of each month. Hence you will never see an accurate bill and your monthly DD is calculated with charging at the standard rate rather than the reduced CA rate. I asked OVO to change the household billing date to more closely match the CA credit date, but they were unable to do so. OI then claimed compatibility with Taycan and reduced their standard rate to match OVO’s and I switched, to enable charging at 7.5p rather than 10p.
I did find OVO charging to be more reliable than OI. OVO only failed once in 2 months. OI did not complete charging once in the first 6 nights, so I now rely on the car’s scheduling.
I did find the OVO smart home customer service to be miles ahead of Octopus. 3 months after switching, they have been unable to diagnose the problem. They have been unable to respond to my complaint within the 8 weeks their procedure allows. That implies they are overwhelmed with complaints. They owe me a credit and a diagnosis.

The people that seem happiest with OI are the ones who have switched off smart charging and just charge their cars and appliances overnight using either the timers on the cars or their EVSE. That is what we do and it is great. My bill for last month showed that we used 9kWh at the day rate (yes, only 9) and 660kWh overnight. I think we are making the most of it!

I think we’re just very lucky here. We’ve the Ohme Home Pro on OI and it works wholly as advertised - it thinks both our cars are the Taycan (just to ensure it fills the largest of the two batteries) and when we plug either that or the Fiat in, it just charges when it feels like it and sends a schedule of charging to the phone - always ready by the time specified in the Ohme app. I think the key to our success here is the Ohme rather than OI itself, but I could, as ever, be wrong. That said, OVO is now a smidgeon cheaper so….

Ovo is marginally cheaper for charging a car but I don’t think it includes any other overnight electricity that you might use. We are charging 2 cars, house batteries and using a washing machine and dishwasher on a timer. So I think OI is cheapest for us

Do you have a timer set for 2.30am to wake you up and go down and move the washing into the tumble drier?

I think you’re right, we have the dishwasher and washing machine set to early morning timers and my insomnia usually means I can be relied upon to be awake well before the 0530 low rate for all usage is upon us. You hear a lot of BBC World Service, that time of the morning…. ?
