Maybe I’m somehow missing it in the forums, but all I keep finding is threads that indicate they’ve performed a factory reset on their PMCC…but I can’t find any that tell me how to actually do it.

I bought my pre-owned 2020 Taycan from a dealer and the PMCC was in the trunk. I just tried booting it up to charge the car and it asked for a pin. Luckily the previous owner had the piece of paper with the original PIN and PUK, but they must have changed it to something else afterwards since it didn’t work.

I read through the PMCC instruction manual and again, it stated that it could be reset, but I couldn’t find instructions on how to do so.

Am I missing something simple? I tried holding down the power button for 10 seconds (and longer) and that just restarted it and it went back to asking for a PIN. I thought that if there’s a way to reset it, since I have the original PIN and PUK that I’d be all set, but the only button I’m seeing is the power button.

Can someone tell me the button sequence or what I’m missing? Thanks!

Just in case anyone else runs into this issue, the answer was pretty simple. I was avoiding entering the incorrect user pin because I didn't want to be locked out of the charger. Turns out, that's the only way to get the charger to asking for the original PUK number, allowing you to reset the pin to whatever you'd like.

Hope that helps!

Bump same issue here. Purchased my Taycan pre-owned, and I'm stuck on a PIN page.

How do I find the PUK number, or where do I start?

As per the manual, PUK(Personal Unlocking Key) should be in the white envelope which came with your PMCC (also contains passwords). If you don't have this then the dealer should be able to assist.

There are 2 user accounts Home & Service (@tykon4s). Use the Service account to perform the reset to factory settings. Ensure you take a backup first (within the Service menu).

If you are in US, store your Porsche-branded EVSE in a box until you dispose of the car, and get a decent working EVSE from another manufacturer: [North America] - FAQ: the ultimate guide to the Porsche EVSE PMC+/PMCC/PWCC
Ahem, the PMCC is a fabulous EVSE but it just so happens that in NA it appears to have had issues!

I doubt that all PMC / PMC+ / PMCCs in NA are useless either given the numbers out there - remembering any Porsche hybrid will have been supplied with one of these.

well all of them are under official recall - the recall parts are in short supply - the recall from Porsche recommends to stop using the device until you have the replacement part - and the recalled parts, once you receive them have been manufactured "wrong" with the plug-head rotated 180 degree's opposite of what you want for plugging them into the wall…so yeah - not Porsche's best effort - and yeah Porsche recommends stopping use of them for their full eV's and hybrids…if the recall has not been performed.

factually - unfortunately - nearly _ALL_ of the PMC/PMC+/PMCC's in North america are nearly useless.

very very few units have a correct recall part…most have probably not been presented for the recall service, or have the poorly manufactured replacement part that has the plug-head facing the wrong way.

there was even a period of time when Porsche was reimbursing owners to purchase a non-Porsche EVSE…so even Porsche thinks their non-recall PMC/PMC+/PMCC's are useless…

the PUK number(s) should be on a slip of paper in a white envelope provided with the PMCC - if you do not have this information - you'll have to work with Porsche service to recover the device - and Im not sure how/if they can do that - but they may be able to provide a replacement unlocked device.

but you are stuck if you don't have the original documentation in the carry case along with the unit - or can recover the information from the previous owner.

if you do not have the unlock codes - and Porsche service can not recover the device - keep in mind an excellent high quality 100% compatible EV Charger EVSE is $600 or less - I would certainly not pay Porsche's outrageous premium price for a replacement PMCC…it's simply not that good and cost wise the cheaper alternatives are actually better products vs. Porsche's price for their EVSE.

here is just _ONE_ of many alternatives for charging _ANY_ north American EV - ChargePoint Flex…$549 from amazon - 2 day delivery - plug it into the same NEMA 14-50 outlet - and you're good to go - so the "budget" for recovering a "locked" PMCC is $600 or less - i.e. you can just get a new EVSE for less than $600 so I wouldn't pay any more than that to "fix/replace" a PMCC unit…in fact I wouldn't pay any money to replace/recover a Porsche EVSE…opportunity to pivot to a non-Porsche EVSE.

https://www.amazon.com/ChargePoint-Hardwire-Outdoor-Charging-Electric/dp/B0C6YMS4KH/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1BI5XO1MM9SVD&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.qbVHx-GFx38mN-9W6stVXT0EpTxqR1lecE9VVeMYgxaO5AbYHX-aL9jYEIYSzZjt7IIoyJq6J7qPKjie8EQPpgclJQyNYOsAclH0lK_cZBdW5VObsKXi1U3xpg4G-NJp1Y_vl7ICmUXB4gaIcYFXr9QD5h5Eksw-X25fHTl3klWTufPX71u3kzh26G_8M7tNiEJfTPYZIpOWmchp8K2Uc0Fz4liyB5l2uqkPJ-tUJ75r_hVmbCUymm6xg96I1ZpGHPDHUl-CFiAE7Vfe1_xkJczui3Gs26jphyBMOgkc92c.TwnK_Vv3VFtiYgLXqoaSsm43T41ZzI7QFI8dQ4eGU-g&dib_tag=se&keywords=chargepoint+flex&qid=1732628113&sprefix=chargepoint+fle,aps,214&sr=8-1&th=1

there are high quality EVSE's for even less than the one listed above - but you get the idea - these types of devices are plentiful, high quality, compatible, and lots of choices and range in price as low as $200'sih for a suitable unit…so keep replacement alternative non-Porsche unit's in mind when evaluating cost to get a PMCC unit replaced/unlocked…unless it is nearly $0 to recover the PMCC unit - you're better off with an alternative.

also make sure your NEMA 14-50/6-50 outlet is industrial grade like the Hubble unit's noted in this Porsche technical bulletin…it is best practice for _ANY_ EVSE (not just Porsche's) that you run them off an industrial grade socket vs. the normal run of the mill home depot or lowes $12 plastic one's most residential homes have installed…the technical bulletin listed below from Porsche has actual part numbers for a high quality industrial grade NEMA 14-50/6-50 outlet…

@daveo4EV thanks for the tips. I cannot locate the "slip of paper" so I've contacted Porsche North America for the PUK. I'm debating to contact my dealer as the next step bc the car was sold new to the original owner at the same dealership only 6 months ago.

Thanks for the suggestions for other EVSEs. I actually already have the Chargepoint Flex installed and yes my NEMA 14-50 is industrial grade (I'm friends with my electrician so nothing but the best for my electrical setups when he wired my entire house!).

So why am I going through with PMCC? I'm a glutton for punishment! There's something slick about the interface of the pmcc that I really like and I'm willing to put up with the possible issues. I also got lucky and found a $20 pre-owned VW wall mount on ebay for the E-Etron and my 14-50 cord has already been replaced.

quick update, I was able to resolve this with a call to Porsche North America. If you're reading this and need your PUK, ensure you have an active Porsche ID (account) and that your car has been added to the account so that they can bypass ownership validation.

They'll transfer you to a department that handles charging questions and they'll retrieve it in a minute. They prefer that you're on front of the unit so that you can reset the PIN immediately. You have 1 minute to enter the PUK.

this is a great update - thanks for taking the time - it's nice to see Porsche can recover these devices with a straight forward customer service process - I'm sincerely gratified this worked out for you!

I am in the UK and was unable to get any support from Porsche UK to reset the pin on my charger.

I then contacted the manufacturer, again no help.

I took the charger into my local dealer, they plugged it in to something they have and reset the pin for me at no charge - wish I knew they could perform a pin reset from the start.

One interesting thing I did find was that the serial number on the charger was showing more zeroes at the start of the number than the Porsche system could accept, as the actual serial number Porsche required was a 7 digit number, not the 10 digit number shown on the charger.
