Okay, my car is on a boat… After all the tariff stuff it seems like I’m actually getting it. So I’m starting to get excited.

Curious for you other Taycan CT or Taycan owners… I’m leasing my Taycan CT 4S. Should I get PPF on the front? Where I live there a number of dirt roads. I also drive into NYC quite a bit. Or should I go with ceramic?

If ceramic, how often do you redo it?

If you like to keep your paint looking new while you have the car, then PPF it.

You can just do the front of the car

Ceramic coating is in lieu of wax and it's a sacrificial layer of clear coat.
It will give your paint hydrophobic qualities.

You can do front PPF and ceramic coat the rest for the best appearance for the paint.

Some just like to use the car and just return it after the lease is up so they don't want to spend money on all these extras.

I saved a little money and just covered the hood (NOT the fenders, etc). In 4 years of use that has worked well and should only run about $1000

How did the tariffs affect the cost of the car? Did the price go up?
I would consider PPF on the front as you mentioned dirt roads and long drives, but financially it doesn't make sense as stone chip dings are absorbed when returning the lease. It's just a question of, do you want to protect your ride for 4 years and keep it looking nice. Btw idk if you ever had stone chips on a PPF, it actually almost looks worse than a tiny chip on paint. Obviously it took the hit so your paint is clean when you rip it off, but I doubt you'd replace the PPF on a lease. If I were to lease I'm not sure if I would now that I think about it

Ceramic coat would not really protect you from anything tbh, a stone chip will be a stone chip with or without ceramic. It's just really nice to have and keeps your car clean as it repels dirt / water. You can actually learn to ceramic coat yourself, it's not difficult at all.

I got my car PPF'ed and ceramic coated professionally, but after getting into detailing I learned how to do it myself and have ceramic coated my wheels. Since you are getting a new vehicle all you would need is probably some chemical decontamination (Iron remover), and probably can skip the clay bar / cloth and just apply ceramic after it's clean.

ha!

Super helpful!

TBH stone chips are the least of my worry (I don’t have any with my M850 now, but I know that Porsches tend to get them more than my car). I care far more about the scratches on the hood from the squirrel that jumped off a tree onto my car and the swirls on my paint even though I’ve only ever had it hand washed…

How often do you redo/have to redo ceramic?

As for tariffs, unless someone tells me otherwise (which may still happen) I’m not paying anything additional.

Don't apply PPF on a leased vehicle. Upon return you may be charged to remove it.

Into my 2nd year on a 36 month lease, and even my detailer suggested I save my money and skip the PPF. Good advice. I did a full detail (including ceramic) upon delivery, and the car remains flawless. Easy upkeep when home washing -- with ceramic coating the water beads right off. Lots of highway and NYC driving has not been an issue r.e. chipping. Of note, if you are in any serious way considering purchasing the car at lease end, then PPF may be a good investment now.

Btw, you are going to LOVE this car. Enjoy it!

Ceramic coating will last longer than your lease term.
A ceramic coating boost is suggested every 2 years, but it's not necessary.

Ceramic coating is not made to protect against scratches, it just means you won't need to wax the car anymore and it will protect your paint better against the elements.

It comes down to if you are willing to lose money by paying for better looking paint for the life of the lease.

This is all incredibly helpful. It sounds to me like ppf is not needed.

Some good opinions above, I think you'll be fine with just ceramic. I'm not sure why you have Paint swirls if you hand wash properly you should not have any...

You probably don't need to redo the ceramic coat if you maintain properly and the ceramic is of high quality. It really depends if you get some cheap ceramic and run car through auto car washes, it'll be gone in a year or less. If you hand wash pH neutral / Rinseless Wash properly etc with good quality ceramic, it should last your entire lease

I highly recommend PPF over ceramic, no comparison when coming to stone chip damage prevention. I have had it on every car I have leased (all Porsches) and never been charged to have it removed, in fact the leasing company were glad I had it installed as it preserves the value of what they take back. You could always serve to avoid hitting and stones flying at you at at a high rate of speed (LOL)

I totally agree.

Let me also note that you sound unsure about whether you plan to keep the car after lease, or like I did, buy it out of least after 1 year because I loved it. If you dislike having paint chips then have the front-end of the car PPFed (bumper, hood, headlights, front fenders, and side view mirrors).

I've been hit by some sizable rocks and so far PPF has done its job. I even had one that tore the PPF on the front bumper. It was uncertain whether it went through to the paint or not, but when I had the PPF taken off the paint was fine, so just replaced the PPF on the front bumper.

This is of course a financial decision, but one that I have never regretted.

P.S. Ceramic coating is a higher quality replacement for wax, not a paint chip preventing coating..

Hmm. Does anyone have any pictures of rock chips on ppf?
