If they gave you the option to pre-pay for 20 years ($1,200), would you do it?
No, because I upgrade electronics like this every 3 years. With a base price of $249 and a $60/year subscription, it would cost $429 for essential leasing a product. Versus a lesser expensive and more feature complete Blackvue model that would have residual value after 3 years. The subscription model is designed to make you think you are paying less while actually paying more.

Plus subscription services are notoriously changing subscription levels after you buy - raising monthly fees or adding new tiers of service that cause you to have to pay more.

I don’t think blackvue comes with LTE for life for the price you pay for it. I haven't seen any products other than older Tesla cars which include cellular connectivity in their price. Ok, there was an old Barnes and Noble book reader IIRC, long ago, but connectivity was to download content only.

I have the ring-cam on my other vehicle. The dashboard location was initially annoying, but you get used to it, and its height from the driver's PoV is over the bonnet, so you don't loose any visibility. That being said, I am unsure how it will be for the Taycan. You also have to run the wire to the OBD port, which is relatively easy, but I wouldn't want to do it to the Taycan.

The cloud-backed video functionality is awesome - you can live-stream from your parked car, or while the car is moving. It also do motion alerts and other fancy things. Interior camera has privacy cover.

TLDR: great feature set, i wish the camera was a tighter/smaller package.

I’m confused. I thought the ring car cam doesn’t even come out until next month? Also, I share your concern about connecting to the OBD of the Taycan. It would be great if connecting the ring car cam to the obd port doesn’t cause any issues, but the Taycan is a fussy bastard when it comes to electronics. I want to get the ring car cam but will wait for a few months of customer feedback.

I saw the camera in person at CES last week. Smaller than I expected. Bosch, Garmin, and Blackvue also launched connected dash cams…Ring was definitely the sleekest looking.

Their mounting bracket is a bit odd, but I think they don’t want anyone to run the power cable down the A-pillar. If you’re looking for a less visible/discreet dash cam, Ring is not for you. It’s front and center on the dash, bracket wedges in the bottom crevice of the windshield.

good concept but am concerned about the reception when the car is in the underground garage or locations with poor reception in general. already having issues connecting to the car for remote heating/cooling on demand.

as for the product and its features, it would be nice if the stick is made in transparent instead of black, and 4x optical zoom lens and 4k image instead of HD,
