You need to add 800v supercharger access, currently for the only full v4 charger in the US at Redwood City, CA there is no non-tesla access...
Not exactly sure what this means, but on the face of it, it's not accurate.

If you enter your specific non-Tesla EV in the Tesla app, only chargers compatible with your EV will be displayed. Simple.

you're both right and talking across purposes
  • not all Tesla superchargers will work for non-Tesla's - V3/V4 supercharger sites are the only ones that support CCS vehicles…like Taycan/Macan and other EV's
    • V2/urban superchargers are _NOT_ compatible with CCS vehicle's - this is a hardware limitation - so those sites need to be filtered out of any search you perform
    • Tesla has not disclosed any plans to "upgrade" V2/Urban sites to support CCS - and they also do not seem to be planning and building a lot V2/Urban sites going forward - so this is legacy infrastructure that may or may not evolve…stay tuned.
  • some V3/V4 Tesla superchargers are not open to non-Tesla's - it's not a lot of sites, but it's more than zero - and no disclosed reason as to why…but _MOST_ V3/V4 sites are open to CCS EV's - it's a small fraction of V3/V4 sites that happen to disallow CCS vehicle's and certainly not "the rule".
  • the Tesla app, the Porsche App, and the PCM navigation can/will show Tesla supercharger sites that work for you - all of these apps filter superchargers down to the set of sites that should work for a CCS vehicle…
  • 99.9% of North American Tesla superchargers are 400V - not 800V - so charging speed will be capped by 400V charging limitation of your vehicle - typically 150 kW or less based on the factory built specifications of your EV…
  • V4 superchargers will-be/can-be 800V in _THEORY_ - but to date there is only one site in all of North America that is 800V - all others are 400V (based on disclosed Tesla technical info - there may be other's but Tesla hasn't documented their existence - they would have to be "discovered")
    • no word from Tesla about how/when/where 800V sites will be deployed in the future - and/or if any retrofitting of existing sites will happen - say tuned…
  • the Redwood City, CA V4 site is the only _KNOWN_ 800V Supercharger site, but it is not open to non-Teslas - and there is no disclosure as to if/when it will be open to non-Tesla's
  • it is true you can not pull up to a random Tesla site and just expect it to work - there are Tesla sites that will not allow CCS vehicle's to charge
    • but the facts are clear - there are about 35,000 stalls in North America according to last disclosed data - 25,000 of those stalls are V3/V4 sites that support CCS vehicles - but there are 10,000 stalls that are Urban/V2 and/or closed to non-Tesla vehicle's - these sites simply will not work for any CCS EV that is a non-Tesla…
Bottom line: check a reliable map/app before assuming any given Supercharger site will work for your vehicle…but about 2/3rds of sites do support CCS vehicle's - and the growth in the supercharger network is all new sites typically do support CCS vehicle's - there are very few. new sites that are Tesla only…

the trend is it will only get better, but it's already better than most North American CCS charging networks…

I hope this helps.

In Europe – where all superchargers are already CCS – Tesla has stated that they do not open up any station that has very high utilisation of the chargers from Tesla vehicles themselves. The idea being that they are still prioritising their own vehicles across the network and block open access where there is not the capacity.

I've been thinking about the levels of Tesla supercharging support:

✅ - Charging available at Magic Dock Superchargers
✅ - Charging adapter available for Porsche, activated with Tesla app
✅ - My Porsche app can route plan through Superchargers
✅ - Porsche can precondition for superchargers (when route ^ sent from phone)
✅ - Integration with Porsche Charging Service (NEW!)
❌ - GPS in car can route plan and precondition through superchargers without using the My Porsche app
❌ - Plug and Charge for Superchargers

We are almost there! I suspect the GPS support will come, but being a vehicle feature it probably has more red tape, testing and approval needed before rolling it out.

EDIT: I discovered they DID add support for starting the charge inside the My Porsche app!

I don’t get why plug-n-charge isn’t working on Tesla Superchargers for you guys? It’s worked for me (yes, it was a surprise, initially…) for several months in Oregon and California.

Maybe it does and I should update the matrix! I’ll try it when I get my car back.

Maybe goes without saying, but my in car GPS route planning has worked too since the plug-n-charge has worked.

Well that’s very interesting indeed.

Is there a switch to allow chargers requiring adapters in your pcm?

As far as I can tell, no. I just looked and the only thing I have checked is "Other" in the PCM Navigation settings where there is the long list of different vendor's charging stations like Chargepoint, EA, etc. It doesn't even have an entry in the list for Tesla Superchargers.
When on the road and looking at the nav map, I can tell where there's a Tesla supercharger as it will say "250kW".

The Tesla and Porsche applications and the GPS route planning need to be searchable by v4 cabinet, otherwise it might be impossible to get close enough for the cable to reach when you get there.
My workaround has been to keep a list of v4 cabinets in my area, compiled by looking at Tesla's map and then searching for photos of each.

I am still waiting for my "free" adapter. Been over a month now. Is there a way to check with Porsche on the status of the order? Seems they are in stock and ready to ship at the Porsche store, so hoping this is a good sign.

Oh nice, I'll have to check that next time.
Though I suppose the Tesla app (with subscription) gives a better price per kWh. And (shame on Porsche), it's better at updating the car charge level.
