Porsche Taycan Hockenheim E-Warm Up With Porsche Experience Day H7

Hello everybody!

Just got back from a Porsche Experience day with the Taycan in Hockenheim, Germany. It was just...wow!

I was able to push our love Taycans to their limits (sometimes over that hahaha) and I was able to understand how far I could make it attack the turns! Super instructor even if I regret that the laps could not be done at a little higher speed.

For having tested with a Turbo S I definitely confirm this IS NOT A 911 !!!!

The car is really way too heavy and when the rear goes...it goes!!

Even the monitor messed up the drift activity and spun twice in a row

Nevertheless.. they had wet the asphalt, and we pushed hard in the activities I admit. The chassis is incredible, the PTV+ and PCCM systems are impressively efficient and you can already go very, very quickly through the turns before you start sliding!

When I ordered my 4S I was hesitant not to take more power and in the end I was right. The Taycan has nothing to do on a circuit. It's a sporty deal perfect for taking some winding roads and having "reasonable" fun. The 2300kg are there and despite the prowess of Porsche for the quality of their chassis the laws of physics are always stronger.

So those who criticize the braking...sincerely...I don't understand them. It brakes hard, stable and several times in a row without weakening. Maintaining the trajectory with full ABS is just impressively efficient, the car simply goes where you want it to go! At any speed.. Just don't forget that it's still a 2300kg baby, I repeat myself, but its weight and in my opinion the only criticism to be given to this car (and the range..a little more will be nice 😅)

Great to see that you really enjoyed your experience- I'm at Silverstone next week for a full day's Precision course, hoping to explore the limits that I was reluctant to go near when I attended the standard new car buyer's half day session. It's encouraging to read that even the Pro's aren't always 100% in control of the Taycan 😁

I am at Silverstone next Thursday for my Porsche Experience (bought a CT 4 in December ‘22). Looking forward to driving a Taycan at speed for a change - been driving in range mode for 75%!of the time due to the cold weather range in Scotland,

That sounds a bit different to the various offerings at Silverstone- what activities did you get to do and on what parts of track?

I'll look out for you to say Hello.
I think there are advantages to taking the Experience once you're used to your own Taycan, though of course there are other advantages of taking it before you finalise your build- having 2 Experiences would be best, and I was lucky enough to get that opportunity with my previous order due to an admin error that I questioned, and was told they were happy to honour the 2nd invitation.

Will keep an eye out for you. You will be able to spot me as I will be the guy conserving his range on the track.

Would have benefited with an experience (refundable if I went ahead and purchased the car) as I was dithering on a CT4S, rear wheel steering etc.

In the end I wimped out and went with the CT4 with a few options (paint/21 wheels etc). Base model selected as I was told it was on a shorter lead time (still took a year to arrive) and didn’t want to spec it to the price of a CT4S.

Any regrets so far - none - will be interesting to see the performance difference to a more expensive model.

> theoretical course
> Circuit laps with trajectory technique
> Workshops: Sudden deviation at good speed and on wet roads, slalom for steering wheel calibration technique, straight emergency stop and zigzag emergency stop, "donuts" (circular track and make the rear start and keep it sliding until desired stabilization of the vehicle)

The donut activity was definitely the most complicated to do because of the weight of our pretty baby.

It was impressive to learn about the efficient of Porsche driving aids but also without driving aids of the quality of the chassis. PTV+ seems to me to be the most important option to help counter the weight of the vehicle. I would not say at the level of the rear axle because I could not compare with and without.

No, it was not a free invitation. I ordered my experience track when I ordered my car and having in mind that I would make the trip to Germany with mine but it was not the case

Having borrowed a 4S demonstrator a few times before I went mad and ordered a Turbo without having driven one (until my Experience session), I now think that PTV+ is a key differentiator in usable performance, an option that I'd never seriously considered when I was configuring my provisional 4S order.

Maybe we need a specific thread for folks to write up their PEC sessions…

I was at PEC Silverstone yesterday for my inclusive, depositor‘s half day session. Was in a frozen blue RWD which had air suspension as its only chassis option. Weather wise, it was serious showers with inclusive rainbows and sunny interval. Soaking wet to damp.
Porsche Taycan Hockenheim E-Warm Up With Porsche Experience Day 223E618D-3618-4917-93AE-5C203FDA69C9

initially went out just before the heavens opened, so rather than warming up around the south handling circuit, we headed over to the low friction circuit to provoke some under and oversteer. Quit interesting to see how the weight of a Taycan seems to leads predominantly to understeer unless you really provoke it.

Ice hill and kick plate seemed rather easy in this car either with or without PSM, again due to the weight. First time I’ve done these in RWD car, so was expecting to get caught out. ABS testing straight showed just how well the standard brakes haul the car to a standstill running repeated over 1.1G stops with lane changes etc.

Best part of the day was getting back up to speed around the two handling tracks harrying a brace of red/gree/blue GT3s that were pounding around the track. The RWD acquitted itself really well on these short tracks, managing to slowly pull away from any on these 911s. Who needs to spend north of 150K 😉

I was there as well! Amazing experience, I loved every bit of it. I was personally blown away by the performance and the handling of my car (even though I own a basic CT4) but I've never tried, say, a GT3 on track so I can't really compare with a "proper" lighter race car.
