Taycan 4S Subwoofer Upgrade (Bose from Factory)

I decided that the bass provided by the Bose system wasn't sufficient. I contacted a local shop and booked an appointment for mid-September. On the morning of the appointment, the shop informed me that they didn't have the components I requested (JL Audio 6" box x 2, JL Audio 500W amp).

I went to the shop, and after exploring other options, the technician started to disassemble the car. However, after 2 hours, they mentioned they couldn't find a suitable location for a 12V power source and were hesitant to connect it to the 12V battery. After a few more hours, I left the shop without any upgrades.

I then called around and found another shop willing to perform the installation.

The new setup included 2x Gladen SQX08 subwoofers in a custom MDF box, a Gladen RC600.1 amplifier, and a Mosconi Atomo 4 to 6 DSP (not necessary, but I wanted to adjust the factory sound curve for the sub). Power was sourced from the power distribution unit at the back of the car.

This upgrade transformed the car's bass quality, and I wish the previous owner had opted for the Burmester system. I'm extremely satisfied and recommend this modification to anyone feeling that the Bose system lacks bass.

You should be able to find a few good shops in Atlanta that will do the upgrade for you.

Do you have to leave the subs and amp uncovered or do you have a trim piece that covers everything?

From my testing it sounds better without the cover, of course if I use the boot I will put the cover on.

There are quite few options for you, if I were in your shoes I would take a trip down south to Five Star Car Stereo at FL. Check their Youtube channel, one of the most professional shops anywhere.

I've been pretty surprised at how rumbly the woofer is with the Bose base setup (the car shakes delightfully with Skrillex's latest album

); how much of a change would you say the new setup has made and what genres of music do you primarily listen to?

I mostly listen to Rap,House,DnB,Phonk and it's night and day difference.

The original Bose in my car is OK. I go with the notion that if it's OK, then that's sufficient for my needs. Car audio is never amazing, albeit I've dabbled a lot when I was younger and had a lot of fun doing it. Because it's the least controllable place for sound/speaker placement I've left most cars I've had as the quality works in that environment and at home I make sure I get quality

Having said all of that, I think that looks nice and clean so congrats and enjoy! Have you got a custom cover that let's the sound fill the cabin, instead of using the standard cover? A custom one looks like it would be really easy to do with some decent mdf and car felt/carpet and maybe some wire mesh covering.

A Burmester owner here. I recently listened to Bose and I’d say the problem is not with the bass, but clarity. I’m really afraid now it’d be hard to find my next taycan with burmester as well as the current one

I have the Bose and was very surprised how little bass there was. My 978S had Bose and it was exponentially better as far as bass goes. Of course the Sub in the 987S was right over your shoulder, but the doors also thumped. I'm looking for a solution in my Taycan 4S and the trunk option by OP seems to be a good option, although more than I might want to do.

Has anyone upgraded door woofers (JL Audio, etc.) without adding amps or doing a lot more to get some decent bass? I always want to stay as close to OEM without straying too far into custom.

Try to add more noise insulation first. It helps a bit as well

I would like more bass, but I'm not willing to give up the "secret" compartment under the trunk.

I wonder where the stock sub is and if it can be modified.

Adding significant weight and amperage draw is not a compromise that the OEM is willing to make. It’s a personal choice for sure but I am still with the OEM at this point.

A dealer indicated the Burmester sub (Bose probably the same?) is under the trunk floor just forward of the “secret compartment”. If you explore and can remove that panel, you might find it.

Find were it is and replace the subwoofer speaker with a Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8 set wired 2ohms. Its almost plug&play and will improve the bass quality a lot. I've done it in my Panamera.
