The Taycan is a luxury car, so with both suspension setups your ride will be smooth. If you want the maximum smoothness go for air suspension and 19 or 20 inch wheels. But 20 or 21 with both air suspension and steel suspension will be smooth and good enough too

Best if you ask your dealer to test drive with both setups, so you really experience it yourself. You can only spend your money once

SMOOTH in normal
HARSH in sport
VERY HARSH in sport plus

I had a 4S on 20s before GTS on 21s

As F1Eng says the suspension setting is much more important than rim size

21s in Normal mode is MUCH nicer ride than 20s in Sport

For Sport Plus Mode with 21s Pool table smooth track tarmac is required

are you saying that the 20 inch tires ride is very good on the stock steel suspension so would i get a smooth ride with the steel suspension because if this is the case i would not spend the extra money on the air suspension?
Never had steel and always air.

That aside, the more rubber the smoother the ride will be regardless of suspension type.

Air is worth it.

Other benefit of air suspension is that you can lift the car for speedbumps. Or when riding in sport plus or range mode it will lower the car

It seems to me you really need to go to the dealer and try the various combinations you are considering for yourself.

One person’s smooth is wallowing, one person’s harsh is taut.

What other cars are you comparing with?
Which car have you driven which you consider has a good ride?
Which car have you driven you consider harsh?

You have had a lot of explanations and are still asking the same questions so we clearly aren’t helping.

Having done a direct comparison between 20” and 21” I know the difference is marked but it seems some people don’t feel it is of much consequence, plus if you go air there are loads of settings which may make a bigger difference to the ride than tyres.

Also consider the ride height. I needed to be able to raise the suspension to get in and out my office carpark without bottoming out

the three dealers in tampa do not have the taycan in stock with the 21 inch mission e tires all they have is 20 inch tires with no air suspension i have been there and none of them have it they only have the steel suspension that is why i am asking these questions.

We have 21” on our GTS, after having 20” on both our previous Taycans.

21” aren’t as comfortable. They also suffer from juddering (Ackerman effect) once the temperature drops and manoeuvring at slow speeds which is quite unpleasant.

The 21s do look better though (IMO).

I’ve got 21s, which I am very happy with. However, I’ve found the ride is very sensitive to tyre pressure. When I had a new set of N rated tyres fitted the fitter added an extra 4lbs over my normal pressures and the ride turned to $$$$ in sport plus. I went back to normal pressures the great ride (for sport plus) returned. I typically run a couple of pounds under the recommended levels.

I had the opportunity to compare the Spyder rims outfitted on my Taycan 4s loaner with the 20" rims on my Taycan Turbo. There's a slight difference in better ride quality when it comes to the 20" rim setup. However, the Spyder rims and tires seem to offer a more planted and communicative feel when pushing the vehicle to its limit. For me, I'm for the 20" rims as I've had too many wheels and tires damaged by our Bay Area freeways.
