Tom Voelk has just uploaded part 8 in his series on buying and owning a used Taycan: "13 months in: winter driving, rebalancing, depreciation, etc."

I always enjoy his calm style and nice to see a more balanced view from an actual owner who loves the Taycan :)

Here are the previous episodes:

2. Delivery:

3. Drive to seattle:

4. Drive to seattle 2:

Another great update from Tom Voelk @262X40 on his Taycan. I am not sure what his handle is but I wanted to suggest a couple of things and ask about how his car is optioned.

- Replace orange markers with clear
- Video shows charging at Tesla at only about 58kW, so wonder if he has the 150kW option
- He got the OBD but I could not tell what is his SoH reading as predicted range is on the low side
- Enable Matrix beam as now I have done it and it is a game changer

Agreed!
(And especially in contrast to a certain EV car reviewer...)

Wow. Gas station sushi?
And looked like it had been made fresh on site (not that prepackaged refrigerated version sold in some supermarkets)!

Kind of amusing how in the prior video he praises the public charging infrastructure as being so well built-out now but also sensibly cautions to check an intended route in advance to see if it really is so well build-out yet.
The flip side of that is how I've found that new stations are now being opened without much fanfare. I noticed that the new MB station had opened in St J VT only when I happened to looking at another route for someone else, I learned about the new Ionna in Brattleboro VT only via a notification in my BMW app, and the Rivian stations in Brattleboro VT and West Lebanon NH allowed universal access with zero publicity.

My main criticism though of the latest video is that I wanted to see more skiing footage in Whistler!
I did like the shoutout to Timmy's since I have a friend who loves that place.
(In New England, we instead have Dunkins pretty much everywhere.)

Ironic that he cites excessive eating as a side effect of EV ownership, since I've experienced the exact opposite.
Previously I used to buy bagels and ice cream when stopping for gas.
Now, on the rare occasions I need to charge in public, the MB and Ionna stations are so fast, and the extra kWh I need is to minimal for getting between Western Mass and Mt Washington, that by the time I've quickly visited an adjacent restroom, I already have a higher SoC than necessary.

Just read his NYT article on recommending 11 best used EVs, and he says to talk the talk he bought a 2021 Porsche Taycan 4S. The weird thing is that the Taycan didn’t make the list!

I think that article was structured the other way around: he starts off with a general overview of the used car market, and approvingly cites his Taycan as one such example, but then the 11 models with more details are all from the new car buyer perspective. So although he included the Macan at ~$82.5, with the Taycan starting at more than twenty grand higher than that, makes sense not to mention it among new car deals.

@262X40 - thanks for another great video. I loved your approach and found it very interesting to hear how you handled range during your trip to Whistler.

However, I disagree with your take on whether to get an extended warranty or not. The replacement cost of individual items on your Taycan that can, and eventually will, wear out can be extra extraordinarily high. Call it the Porsche tax if you will.

Examples —
Bad Inverter - $12,842 installed
Bad headlight - $4,000-$6,500 installed

@262X40, been a long time fan of yours. Your videos are very informative — and fun to watch.

Coincidentlly just watch your new 13 months old Taycan ownership video last night.
