I've tested several and Blackvue seems like the best all around. FitCamX has lots of bugs. Vantrue software is not as well thought out.

Exactly, depends from if you look for fancy cameras or you’re video recording and sharing dependant!
I went for china that replaces the round plastic behind the mirror, to be honest recycled from my ex Audi (same mirror!).. I connect to it once every few months because I don’t care about filming around but use it only if really needed..se everyone is different in this! Paid 50/60$, it’s lasting years so far..

Ok thanks.

I just want one that looks oem and car record while driving and parked.

What "lots of bugs" are currently with the FitCamX? Not debating, just would like to be aware as a new owner of one.

Very interested in the alternatives mentioned here and the descriptions of actual experience - thank you.

There was another thread recently where people raised concerns about Porsche service departments rejecting warranty coverage, if the problem you bring the car in with can remotely, somehow , maybe be related to your (“faulty”) third-party dashcam installation. They say it is faulty, and you can’t prove it isn’t. Does anyone here have any real-life experience with this?

I think the only issue likely to be linked to a dashcam would be 12v battery being run down.
I self installed dashcams in both my Taycans and never had any issues with Porsche service at 3 OPCs that I use including Porsche GB owned PRG Reading. Each time I drop the car in I tell them I have unplugged it to save them doing so

I installed a front and rear Blackvue myself and works great and barely visible in the car. Search the forums as I posted some pictures and a link to the thread I followed and tapping into the passenger footwell fusebox so it is hardwired.

The way my installer handled that was to install a battery (under the boot floor) which powers the dashcam; it charges only when the 12V power is on. Thus it will continue to power the dash cam for a while when parked, with no impact on the Porsche 12V.

I haven't had any issues with that so far. Worth noting that Porsche OEM dashcams also draw on 12V when car is OFF. I just connected mine to the same power source via the pre-wiring. This power feed has a dedicated fuse which you have to add, since the car did not come with it populated. I'm thinking it might be possible that the car can sense if this circuit is active and makes sure the 12V battery is not drained. I have notice that my car sometimes briefly enables the EVSE while parked and locked in my garage (I leave my car plugged in whenever in the garage). Sometimes it's topping off the HV battery (I can tell since it will draw high power) and sometimes draws barely any power at all for just a few seconds (maybe just wakes itself to reset the 12V recharge counter?).

Has the pre-wire got both switched and permanent supply? I'd be interested in details of how you connected for my next install

Yes it has both switched and permanent 12V. Switched is shared with mirror. Permanent is dedicated to dashcam. There is also 3 wires ran to the back (which you can use for power or whatever you want) as well as a 50Ohm coax (which I used to connect rear blackvue camera). I posted all the details in this post.
