EvGo has turned on their plug and charge (called Autocharge+) for eligible vehicles, i.e. Lyric, Polestar, XC40, etc. However, it doesn't have it available for the Taycan.

How does the PnC work for our cars if it were enabled? Would we be billed by Porsche or would we be billed by Evgo? Any theories as to why the Taycan is not yet eligible?

This is different to what Plug & Charge is. Autocharge uses the MAC address of the OBC (On-Board-Charger) to identify your EV. This is transmitted by default every time you plug in the car to a charging station (that uses ISO15118-2 as a communication standard, e.g. CCS). That MAC address is then combined with your EVgo account. So payment is via their platform only.

Some EVs do randomize that MAC address every day or every time you plugin the EV. The Taycan doesn't, so technically it could be supported.

Plug & Charge as provided by Porsche stores a certificate of your emobility provider, meaning a digital version of your charging card, in the car. So payment is always via that charging card. Only one can be stored in the EV, future version of the standard will allow multiple cards to be stored and then selected before charging. BMW just announced that they will support this sometime in the future.

@AndiL Thanks for the clarification. Using the details you've provided, I found an article detailing the differences between autocharge and iso 15118 and implementation details. From what I've read and understand about plug and charge, it would be feasible to have the charging provider direct bill so long we're signed up with that provider. I'll research how the new certificate install works.

With respect to auto charge, we'll wait for feedback. Thanks @JustWatching

So, looks like no go for us. Whether what they are saying is actually true or not I don't know. From EVgo support:

Thank you for contacting EVgo.

Please be advised that at this time the Auto charge program will not work for the Porsche Taycan as the EV manufacturer does not currently produce any compatibility model, which means you will not be able to enroll in auto charge.

If you need further assistance or have any questions, please feel free to visit our help center or contact Customer Support at 877-494-3833. We're here 24/7 to answer all your questions.

I have tried EVgo chargers three times. I finally got the third charger to work after turning the car off before initializing the session. Given how difficult it was to get a charge using the EVgo RFID card I am not surprised that Porsche is not on the list of supported cars.

@JustWatching I take it means that EVgo hasn't been able to work with Porsche. I'm surprised that they would need anything from the manufacturer.

No matter. We'll wait and see. If all goes well, I'd hope to see Tesla chargers to be available before EVgo.

On a trip from the Bay area to San Diego this past weekend, the charging planner had one of the stops as an EVGo charger. I did not want any issues so decided to divert to an EA charger instead. But as stated above it we cannot use the EVGo, why would the charging planner list it?

You should be able to use the charger, just not Autocharge+

I have used EVgo many times on the east coast. It's advisable to get an RFID card as the card authorizes immediately when touching the reader on the charger. While many of their chargers are 50kW some of the newer deployments are 200 and more kW. Finally, It's beneficial to get a RFID card for all the chargers in your area.

I just had the weirdest experience with the EVgo charging station at Quartermaster Plaza in Philadelphia.

There were multiple 350 kW stations available. The first two times I tried (using the EVgo app since PnC will not work), the Taycan showed an error message saying that charging was not possible, so I switched stations and tried again. I got to the point where the EVgo app said to "Connect cord to vehicle within N seconds". Weirdly, (1) the EVgo app would never show that the connection was successful, (2) the screen on the charger went back to the default screen, (3) the EVgo app showed that the station I was using was available), and (4) my car successfully started charging. It was only charging as if the station were 150, but I left it alone because I was a little concerned about getting no charging if I messed around too much to get faster charging. I looked in both my EVgo account and my credit card, and there was no fee for the charging, but that cannot be due to free Porsche charging, can it?

Anyone else experience this or have any tips?
