After losing my car to the dealer 4 different occasions (whole days) they where unable to fix the ratteling sound from the passenger door.

I finally went to an audio specialist last week and he basically said the car has shitty doorpanels, way to flimsy to hold the 20cm Bose speaker. Made an appointment for next month for sound deadening (3 different layers) at all doors. It should improve the quality of the sound, make it even more soundprove (roadnoise) and I they will guarantee no more rattles 🤞

I'm not a sound expert, but with the sound deadening of the doorpanels it sounds so much better. Don't know how to explain, but feels like I got a whole new soundsystem!

Interesting - I actually have no rattle issues but if they ever appear this looks like a fairly straightforward DIY project I might consider - thx for sharing.

Some background
My Taycan's passenger door and the passenger side rear door rattle badly. I have taken the car to the dealer and they said the passenger door ratted from the light strip. They put foam tape around the strip wire harness which fixed the issue for about two weeks but the rattle came back.
The dealer was wrong, the root cause was not the light strip itself. The reason why the rattles went away temporarily was not the foam tape. It was because they removed and reinstalled the panel.

The root cause
The root cause is the poor fit of the door panel and the fact that it is not held tightly with screws or plastic rivets.
There is a significant gap between the panel and the door chassis, and the door panel can move and rattle. When I push in the panel with my hand it moves and rattles. This happens in 2 of the 4 doors!

My fix
I squeezed some foam between the panel and the door chassis and eliminated the movement of the panel.
All rattles are gone. I used foam used for childproofing furniture :) and plastic upholstery removal tools. I will carefully trim the foam to make it flush with the panel so it will be less noticeable but I wanted to take the pictures before trimming.

It is unfortunate that I have to do this in such an expensive car but it is better than the rattles that drive my crazy. It is also easy enough and it can be done without removing the panel.
Now I can only hear the B-pillar and the driver seat rattles..

Well Done Chrisk, your technical research and analysis is spot on! I have shared your rattle solution with the Bethesda , Maryland Porsche dealership. Thank you very much. Please give me a call if at all possible. (202) 386-8339. Virgil Young

My passenger door had a bad rattle that I cured today by taking the door card off and applying Noico sound deadening sheets to the back off it. Totally cured it. The door panel is incredibly easy to take off in comparison to other cars. Two screws and the thing lifts up and off.

Couple of helpful videos here if anyone wants to do a DIY.

This is the stuff I used but any bitumen-based soundproofing material will do regardless of brand:

Can take it to the dealer under warranty of course but in my experience it's a lottery and a waste of time.

Did you just apply to the door card or any areas of the door itself, looking at the Cambridge Audio video they seem to have strike down the door to apply to the door skin and various parts of the door.

I just did the door card and I did the bit on the door that has a sort of bowl shape that sits behind the upper speaker.

Super helpful pics of what the audio guy did!

As for "XYZ CAR IS IMMUNE TO RATTLES!!!" I'm going to call complete bullshit. My 997 Turbo rattled. My 996's rattled. The Macan loaner I had when my Turbo went in for the 2023 update rattled.

I believe someone said the MachE is a bank vault? Good buddy of mine who drives one, and works for Ford, found this hilarious and pointed me to these from over the years...

TL;DR cars rattle. If you want to "rage quit" go for it, but you're kidding yourself if you think whatever you end up in is some special snowflake. If it's not rattling you either got lucky, or put rose colored earplugs in. ;)

If rattles drive you crazy, best thing to do is learn how to address them through threads like this (that I've followed on every car forum I've spent time on for the past 30 years or so). Thanks to those posting solutions!

I had a rattle in the passenger door, like many others. Thanks for the solution. After experimenting with a tesco clubcard and some bassy music, I narrowed down the spot. Jammed a small 1mm nylon washer into the gap and it's almost unnoticeable. Can't believe the previous owner put up with this for a year and a half and the solution (kinda) was so simple!

Ok, I gotta be completely frank. I read your post and laughed, said to myself "There's no way this will work". I was like what the hell so I went to Amazon and ordered a kit of various sized nylon washers, which included the 1mm size. My package was due to arrive late in the day so I decided to go visit a hi-fi car audio specialist/company to inquire about doing a sound dampening solution for all 4 doors. I've had a few friends who pursued this avenue and it 100% resolved their rattling issues so I went and obtained a quote. Wow, just shy of $2500.

The washers finally arrived early evening so I took several sizes from the pack and went out to my car to insert. I ended up embedding several in various different places, but the good news is that I wedged them in pretty far and they are flush.

I went for a ride down some streets that are a bit rough, cranked up some electronic music to get the bass thumping, and then this happened.........

Complete silence, no rattling whatsoever!!!!!!! In the end, I had a little bit of stress (I'm the OCD type) and I spent $9 to resolve the issue.

Thank you so much for sharing your post!!!!!!!

Wow - I was initially quoted £300 from a local firm (UK). In the end I decided not to bother, badge it which improved no end and I’m letting the car go in a month or so… did you just wedge the washers in every available gap?

No, only in a couple of places. I’ll take some pics in the am and upload them.

Great advice and surely needs to be rectified by Porsche themselves. Great example of why this forum is so useful. Thanks
