Hoping this might help some people who are looking to buy …

So, depreciation keeps coming up in conversation. It’s fair to say Taycan has a sharp depreciation curve. Let’s reverse engineer this for a second. How many would buy again knowing what they know now? And how many would have bought used? I’ll go first, I sold my 4 year old Tesla at tail end of Covid for exactly what I paid for it 4 years prior (50k). I have a 2023 GTS I bought for 151k plus I got the 7500 rebate. I took that 50k out of Tesla, put it in Money Market yielding 5+% and took out a 84 month loan at 3.8% from my local credit union. Today that Tesla would have been worth 20k or less. So, I’m probably net neutral have a much cooler new car and I’d absolutely do it all over again. I can’t say I would have bought used then (market was 30k over sticker), with no inventory BUT if I had to buy now I’d 100% buy preowned. There’s nothing I’d want besides the Taycan - it’s phenomenal and will be for many years to come. I plan on keeping it 5+ years. Fingers crossed, one year car has been absolutely rock solid.

the thing just goes. i can't imagine any other car that can be hot hatch and press a button, it become an offroader. while you are at it, you can be moving home while in snow storm. But a 911 do seem sexy.

All cars depreciate, specially if you drive it. Even my Ferrari with 40k miles would probably fetch the same resale as a salvaged title car. Doesnt change the fact that my taycan is an awesome daily that I’m blessed to be driving every day. What a life I get to live. It was the right car when I was shopping and nothing has changed.

Going back in time roughly a little more than a year then yes, I would certainly do it all over again. It was time for something new and going from a 2020 Tesla S to the refresh didn't seem like much of a change (yoke aside). A floating barge EQS? Nope. AMG EQE? Not here yet. While the Taycan falls short in a lot of areas as an EV it is undeniably a fantastic driving car. Depreciation? Fact of life. The Tesla went from being worth what I paid for it as a trade in at the time I signed the paperwork (not a normal market) to $50,000 less when the Taycan finally arrived. That's life in a normal world for most high end cars that actually get driven and are produced in decent numbers. The real question is would I do it again in the future? Possibly, but it won't be a used Taycan. In two or three years I expect a lot more from Porsche. Better range, better performance, better connectivity. If they deliver on making a better EV, with all that goes with being an EV, then sign me up.

As an aside I was given a brand new Panamera 4 as a loaner while my battery was tested under the recall. Just not close to a Taycan. 2.9 liter twin turbo with an 8 speed trans. Trans was pretty smooth but damn, constantly changing gears. Downshift from 8th to 5th to pass someone and count to 10 before anything happens. EV instant torque has spoiled me. And somewhat surprisingly I now find the engine/exhaust noise to be embarrassing. Silent and stealthy is the way to go.

I would. In fact, knowing ~2 years ago what i know now, I’d have gotten in sooner: stock market was still near a record high at the end of ‘21, allocations were common (as was ADM, though), delivery times were shorter, tax credit was available still, and the price had not yet been increased.
Even with the depreciation that seems to be so severe, I don’t see that many CTs available, and they’re still quite pricey (80k+?). I don’t think I could have brought myself to pay that much for a second hand car; I’d have waited for something closer to 50k, and we won’t see that price point for another couple of years. (Or right after Super Bowl, depending on whom you ask.)

I only have it for 2 months, but if I needed to buy again today I would buy this exact same car. It's still the best configuration on the market here in NL since I bought it. There are not a lot of Carmine Red Taycans (currently only 1 within my budget which is lower spec than my car).

From the other side, with knowledge as of today, I would try to get a higher discount. I did not really push too hard when I bought it, just felt in love with this car.

I didn't consider depreciation when I ordered mine and whilst I resent a lot of the option prices it did allow me to buy exactly what I wanted whereas in other cars I looked at had a spec I didn't like and few or no choices.
If it had only been available with privacy glass or with a black interior I wouldn't have ordered it, for example. Being available in green was another big plus, not sure any of the current choices would induce me to get my wallet out to pay PTS prices - another reason to keep mine 6 years+.
It was the instant throttle response that made me choose an EV and the handling that made me choose the Taycan.
The only think I didn't like, and still don't is the width, but almost all cars are bloat boxes these days.

I’m sorry to say I would not buy this generation Taycan again. I leased so depreciation is not a factor, the car is simply not reliable enough and aftercare poor. I drive it daily, 20k miles a year, and while Porsche dealerships are nice places I’ve seen too much of them.

It is the best car I have ever owned for driving and all round capability, by a long way.

Next car for me will be an etron A6 Avant or perhaps a next gen Taycan CT if Porsche makes clear changes to address reliability.

I won't buy again...until I replace my current one, which won't be within at least the next 3 years. It gives me everything I want and more, it still excites me coming up to 2 years of ownership, there's nothing else out there that could tempt me. I don't dwell on how much it might depreciate, but if I'd compromised on my requirements and gone for something more mundane (no matter how premium), likely seen as more financially "sensible", I bet I'd be discontented to the point of taking a hit on it to do what I actually did in the first place i.e. get the Taycan. As I approach my free bus pass years, I see less merit in putting off today what I might not be able to enjoy as much later.

I wasted far too much time trying to get an e-tron test drive in South London. 4 dealerships with missed appointments, unreturned calls and no help from Audi UK. Suffice to say if you can’t do pre sales what hope do you have with after sales so I won’t be buying Audi again.

On the OP’s question I can’t go back to ICE and the Taycan is still the best EV for me. I would likely buy second hand without the UK tax breaks though.

First, if you are worried about depreciation don't sell the car.
Second, a car is a very bad asset to invest your money in.
Third, high end luxury cars loose half of their value in the fist 4-5 year.
Fourth, if you can't handle the depreciation you probably can't afford a Porsche.

Would I buy again?
No, cuz my current MY20 Taycan is absolutely great! ?
