Still some empty space for these bad boys at Cobham, but looks like Germany got first dibs 😜 #AlpitronicIonity

They look worryingly like the BP Pulse units I used for my first ever charge, and will avoid like the plague for ever more :)

Alpi’s especially in 300kW (and now 400kW guise coming soon) are fantastic. Go to a Fastned site and try one out on your PCS subscription 👍

It’s a shame Ionity have gone the el-cheapo route (again!!) at Cobham and not put in the remaining 3 Alpitronic dual-head units that were on the approved plans. 6 more charging bays would have gone down a treat!

Especially grating given that Cobham is their most (over?!)utilised site in Europe.

…instead they’re whacking them in over in Austria (Meggenhofen)…🤪

Probably mentioned elsewhere here, but I thought I'd bring it into one thread for visibility.

As of October 8 2023 these are the UK sites listed in the Ionity Tracker as "in construction" (most distant announcement to most recent)

Frimley
Entered 303 days ago

Greenock

Manchester East

Aberdeen

Singing Kettle

Belfast

Leicester

Toome

Stranraer
Entered 72 days ago

+
Cobham (expansion)
Entered 31 days ago (planning granted 7 September 2023)
18/20 additional charge points (mixture of ABB Terra and Alpitronic HYC)

I will provisionally add the 33 new Village Hotels / Ionity sites below (in alphabetic order) as announced on 12 September. As more details become available I can update / edit this post.

Aberdeen

Basingstoke

Birmingham Dudley

Birmingham Walsall

Blackpool

Bournemouth

Bracknell

Bristol

Cardiff

Chester St David's

Coventry

Edinburgh

Farnborough

Glasgow

Hull

Leeds North

Leeds South

Liverpool

London Watford

Maidstone

Manchester Ashton

Manchester Bury

Manchester Cheadle

Manchester Hyde

Newcastle

Nottingham

Portsmouth

Solihull

Southampton Eastleigh

Swansea

Swindon

Warrington

Wirral

There will be 65 Ionity sites in the UK total - the existing 22, the 10 variously in construction and the 33 new Village Hotels sites. The rough timetable, if it can be believed, for the Village Hotels sites (compared to the average Ionity construction time in the UK), is very aggressive indeed.

All these sites to be operational by 2024.
Do we have anywhere we can find projected completion date, I’m keen to know especially for Leicester and the Village hotels around Leeds & Manchester…

Not that I'm aware of. If construction-to-opening timings for the last half dozen or more UK Ionity sites are an indication - then its typically 10-12 months from the time the site is listed on the Ionity tracker as "In Construction" to when they finally open.

So Leicester has a way to go yet!

If it opens by summer next year it would be doing well.

I'm due to drive past Leicester in about ten days, and I plan to pop in and have a look at progress. This is the most important new build for me and my regular journeys. Will make Milton Keynes Ionity redundant, thankfully.

At the moment I'm not needing public charging too much but even with my two or three a month it feels like a 50/50 chance it will be a massive pain in the backside. As for my two holidays a year deep into North Wales....this expansion will help greatly!

Hoping their build time till improve.

We went to Wales in October - Pembrokeshire and were amazed at the amount of chargers available to use. Mostly type 2 admittedly, but a helluva lot more than in England and pretty much a few spaces in every car park. Yes it was October so there was always one free, but 10x better than South UK imo. Dragon charging network they were
