I remember seeing this thread about this metal bar installed under the front bumper to prevent scrapes. Now that I’m finally buying a Taycan I tried searching for this and can’t find it anywhere, google, taycan forum, etc

It was not a skid pad it was literally a metal bar looking thing under the front bumper. Does anyone know about this?

Metal scrape gaurds are outdated. Drilling holes on the bottom ruins the car.

Everyone is using scrape guards.
You can install yourself and they work better because they are rubber. If they scrape off, just stick another one on there.
You can even put them on the sides of undercarriage that bottom out

Under my car. Took 20min to install.
Scrapes you see are before I had these installed

The front nose piece is plastic and IMO expendable.

I believe it's only a couple hundred bucks.
Aka splitter, lower lip, lower spoiler. At Suncoast it's $455, and then maybe $100 labor. My view is that the problem isn't scraping it - your car is in the real world and that will happen and no-one will see it. I don't worry about that because it is an easily-replaceable plastic piece if it gets too scraped up. The problem is that, as happened with me, it can be damaged. Then you do need to replace it. The scape guards won't help there.

If you put the rubber scrape guards to the edge (which is not visible) it absolutely helps. I routinely scrape my lower lip with zero damage.

IMO its better to prevent than having someone take pieces of your car apart.

This scrape guard was invented for really low, long overhang cars like the Aventador

I don't see how this piece of plastic is going to help with anything. As you approach something high enough that knocks it off, then it would then continue to damage the panel (battery cover) after it. Now if this piece is the size of the panel itself then I can see it adds another layer of protection like a phone case.

If you drive 60mph and bottom out on a large dip, that's a different story, but most of the time any of us scrape, its at lower speeds, coming out of a driveway or an unexpected dip.

I scrape and bottom out all the time. None of the guards have fallen off even. If they do, you can glue on another one.

For the money and time, Its a no brainer, specially on the Turbo has the paint matched spliter.

If the car gets scraped underneath, why should I care? That’s my philosophy!
depends on where ? certain portions of the battery cover being scrapped might just total your car or result in 70k bill

Unless you glue a piece of plastic that covers the entire battery, if you want to avoid warranty problems, there is no point in covering other parts underneath the car
Not gonna lie, if a a plastic protection for the whole plate cover after market thingy would get sold, for a couple hundreds, i would get it... after that horror story with 70k battery replacement for a 3mm scratch, ouch, wouldn't risk it. Then again, in europe/swiss they don't seem scan/picture underneath the car as far as I know.

What eventually happens if you bottom out enough times the very tip of the spliter starts to show cracks, the top of the spliter thats visible will start to show wear.

Some people don't care, but if you're picky or have a Turbo S with the CF spliter, why not invest $100 in protecting that?
These are $100k + cars.

Just paint it in a very expensive color.
You'll be more careful automatically.
Don't ask how it works but it works.

I do kinda like this idea. If my car was new I might add it.
