Could you explain more about this? What specifically do you do? What happens and why?
Drive Mode sets target heating/cooling for the battery (see below), Sport+ heats the battery the most, but also cools it off most aggressively. Some folks would set the drive mode to Sport+ while charging (I think the car has to be ON) which audibly spins the cooling fans faster than just leaving the car charging while OFF.

A Porsche dealer in Germany told me that there is a software update coming whereby the car has to come in. I have an appointment for a rear light replacement and they hope to have the software update too. I bring the car in on 25th Oct.
However, I haven't seen any postings about a new release yet, nor have I read sth about it on the German Taycan forum.

Is there any information about any upcoming software update?
Cheers
already done. its all behind the scene stuff. But seems to have fixed no carplay when no network

Other than has already been said, I’ve always felt that the bottom touchscreen is severely underused.

I dare to say that the touchpad part is utterly pointless and might as well be removed for something better, like any set of car controls or media controls.

Alternatively (or additionally), they could add a number of new multitouch gestures. You can already two finger swipe to control volume (pretty pointless), but it would be cool if you could swipe right and left to skip or rewind the media player, or three finger swipe to launch different diamond button type shortcuts or apps.
Yep! That's a good one, now you pointed it out and I never used the touchpad once in my 3+ years of ownership, a screen to operate the media player is the most desired one.

The dealer told my friend that a big update will be available in Belgium starting February/March. It cannot be done over the air so the car needs to go to the shop for a 1h.

that sounds promising. The one i did last weekend was the small one then. I hope that the big one will be done through a USB. I don't get a loaner for these kind of service.

And a bit more. My car gets it today. It is WPN8 update.
It will be officially released soon. Car will need to come in for that one though.

Last week, I received an email from Porsche, which was part of their surveying efforts targeting Porsche owners. This specific survey was about software updates and our experiences with them. In my responses, I expressed my confusion regarding Porsche's update process. Unlike Tesla, where updates are straightforward, quite obvious, and user-friendly, I find Porsche's updates to be unclear and nearly impossible to decipher. I opined that there's a lack of essential elements like a progress bar, versioning, or a clear confirmation of a successful update. In my opinion, Porsche should strive to make software updates as transparent as Tesla does.

got a PCM update from my dealer this week, during the winter tire change. Fairly sure I was on the most recent version and they told me there is a fresh one to be flashed.

Took an hour. The car is in the EU.

- shorter preheat / precooling. Now the desired temperature is reached in 10 minutes but it still consumes valuable battery for another 50 minutes.
The reason it is 1 hour is to pre-heat the battery when cold to give nearer normal performance and range.
If all I want to do is warm or cool the cabin I just switch on the pre-heat/cool 5 minutes before I am leaving.

I haven’t had an opportunity to use launch control on summer tyres so an “overtake” button on the steering wheel giving the same power profile would be handy. I still may not use it often but nice to have the option for a few seconds.

I don’t really use most of the PCM functions but do sometimes use the lower screen to scroll through an options list so would miss it if the lower screen lost that.

Oh yeah? My car just got a weather app update
Me too, at least I think - I saw something about weather update briefly show up recently. Of course, rather than notify me when I get in the car, you know, when it makes sense to receive such notifications, Porsche times it so you get a popup while driving and paying attention to the road. They seem to do it with all their update and marketing popups. Then later I got a popup saying I have a notification, but when I clicked the button to go to notifications, it showed no notifications. I never used the weather app, so it's probably a "don't care" for me.
