Heard a rumour today that (at least in the UK) there is a new rule that Porsche Centres are now required to install chargers outside their gates where they can be accessed after hours.

Some won't have enough power into the site to run additional chargers -- for example mine is only allowing the exterior ones to be used overnight, and in the daytime the ones inside the gates will be used.

If this is extended across the network it will make charging at dealerships a lot simpler. Good news -- it was a bit of an error to let so many of them put chargers inside their locked compound.

In My Porsche app, I was able to configure both an access QR code, and my plate number, to open gates at Porsche charging lounges. I assumed this was the standard process.

This is Porsche dealerships, not the charging lounges. Dealerships are typically locked at night, at least in the UK - and typically have a pair of fast chargers somewhere near the entrance door, with a few exceptions like South Lakes where the charger has always been outside the gates.

Not building a proper mini network out of their dealerships was a real early miss by Porsche. Those chargers are very expensive and making them more accessible would for sure have added to the civil engineering costs of the install, but at a time when the IONITY network was smaller, it would have made a large difference.

I was staying at the Porsche Design hotel in Stuttgart recently, which has the dealership attached (it moved about a year ago from the Zuffenhausen factory) and the chargers there were available 24/7. It was good to see them in use quiet late into the night too – mostly by VW and Audi's.

I was there a couple of months ago and a Ford f150 was blocking all charging points. Hotel garage was full. Probably a hotel guest. He was towed away couple of hours later and had the fastest charge I’ve seen. 270kw.

Great news.

I actually unchecked porsche chargers from my planning, because every f*cking time the navigation brought me to one, it was either locked behind a gate or turned off because they work only during working hours.
I've also happened upon some locked with code/password.

So annoying...

I'll be honest and say that going to my OPC to charge would be the least likely place I'd choose to charge as there are many other more convenient choices (and cheaper) such as Ionity near to hand.

Location specific obviously..

I was at Exeter Porsche yesterday in their updated showroom. An external charger is due to be fitted along with the five inside the gates.

Only one? Just to comply in principal?
Shows what lip service Porsche pays to the owners

I thought there were only two charging lounges and both in Germany.

That’s not going to happen anytime soon at my local PCO. The gate is right on the road entrance and the chargers are at the furthest point from it. So they are going to have to move the gate, build some fencing and move the chargers to do that. I don’t use it that often though as it’s only 3 miles away and cheaper to charge at home. One I tend to use when I am in London though has given me the phone number of their security guard. So I just call him if its out of hours and he lets me in and back out again.

There’s one in Nyon, Switzerland. That said, I have never used one yet. I simply saw the option to enable the plate number and to create an access QR code in the app, and assumed that would work also for destination chargers at the dealerships.

No, AFAIK there are only two. One is in Stuttgart and I guess the other is in Nyon. I thought the same as you initially but when I looked into it there was only the one in Stuttgart at the time
