If waiting is not an issue and you had the following three options, which would you choose? 1) Buy a certified pre-owned 2020 Taycan Turbo for 130k 2) Buy a new 2023 Taycan 4S with my own selection of options for 130K 3) Wait for the more powerful and probably less expensive (100k+) Polestar 5 in 2024? Thanks!

I'm a fan of Chinese cars, but I wouldn't compare it to a Taycan.

The Taycans platform is a different league compared to any other EV

I had a similar dilemma and could not find a low mileage Taycan Turbo within budget. I went with a CPO Taycan 4S with low miles for $120K that was the same as my color choice but not exactly the same options. Put an order in for a Taycan GTS at the same time and wait while enjoying the CPO Taycan 4S.

1) if you can find a 2020 CPO low mile Taycan Turbo for $130K I think that is an amazing price and you should go for that. I've been seeing around $150K for a well specced low mile Turbo

2) I think getting a CPO Taycan 4S is a great option which I did. There are a bunch and probably can find one close to your spec and have it $10-20k below MSRP

When I ordered my $142k 4S mid last year, the dealership offered me their left over 2020 Turbo with 90 miles on it and a $175k sticker for $147k. I considered it until my SA whispered in my ear and said to avoid the 2020 Taycans due to all the problems they were seeing.

Thanks for the advice. I see what you mean. Were most or all of these problems fixed in models later than 2020? https://lemberglaw.com/2020-porsche-taycan-problems-complaints-lemon/
It looks like things got better, but there are still people complaining:

Have the battery tested to see level of degradation first. If 'as new' (unlikely) and has been fully software patched then you effectively have a MY23 (with wireless Android on MY20) so seems a good shout.

Personally, as it's an EV I'd go new and therefore the 4S to meet your budget

Get the Turbo unless range is very important to you.
Thanks. I noticed you have a Polestar 2 and a Taycan. Are there things you think Polestar does better than Porsche? Do you have any interest in the Polestar 5 (2024) with 800 HP?

Polestar is a Swedish automotive brand established in 1996 by Volvo Cars' partner Flash/Polestar Racing. Polestar does manufacture in China, but they will start making cars in South Carolina next year.

I would encourage anyone who’s thinking of a Polestar instead of a Taycan, to go take a look at one in person and not just look at pictures. I got a chance to check one out up close and was not impressed at all. Had a cheap feel to it IMO. Then again the one I looked at was a fraction of the Taycan’s cost. I really wanted to like it but it did nothing for me.

The Polestar drives like a 1950s schoolbus compared to a Taycan and the quality gap is about the same. :CWL:

A CPO Turbo at $130k is a suspiciously good deal. I'd be extra careful checking out the car, especially software & battery.

Not necessarily. Around Aug/Sept '21, before the shortage, there were so many new Taycan on dealers lots, and I saw a low optioned 2021 turbo for $165k. So, not only the 2020 the OP brought up is a year older, but it could also have few options as well. That being said, I'd avoid the '20 as well.

Just FYI, wireless Android Auto works just fine on MY20 post-uPdate. So don't use that as a deciding factor.

Plug and Charge is probably the biggest difference.

IMO cars built in China are some of the best due to their extensive use of robots.

Either way I really like the P2 so the P5 will be good as well. It was a car I was looking at after I saw the Precept
