BMW X3M Comp, Taycan RWD on order

Hi all,

I'm still waiting for a build allocation on my RWD (Ordered end of May) but in the meantime I've been playing around a lot with the options.

I think I've finally settled on a spec which gives me a nice car that doesn't blow my budget.

- Mamba Green (Carmine Red is tempting though!)
- Electric Folding Exterior Mirrors
- Deletion of Model Designation
- Porsche Electric Sport Sound
- Sport Chrono Package
- 20" Turbo Aero Wheels
- Park Assist including reversing camera
- Ambient lighting
- 14 Way Comfort Front seats with memory
- Heated GT Sports steering wheel
- Storage Package
- Porsche Crest on headrests

http://www.porsche-code.com/PNDP4558

There are a few items listed there thought that I keep going back and forth on.

1. Sport Chrono Package - Does this actually make that much of a difference? The GT steering wheel and the stopwatch on the dash does look good but is it really worth an extra £788? I see a lot of people saying it's an absolute must in a Porsche which I get in an ICE but for an EV?

2. Electric Sport Sound - How often do people actually use this? It sounds quite cool but I'm wondering if I will ever actually use it. Doesn't the car have to make a small amount of noise anyway for pedestrians etc.? If I didn't opt for this, is it an option that can be added later on?

3. Wheels - The Turbo Aero wheels look nice but going for the 19" S Wheels, which don't look too bad, would save another £715. I would only really go for the 19's if it made a significant difference to the ride quality. Has anybody here driven car with both? The car that I test drove have the 20" and it still felt very comfortable. I do like the idea of getting some Mission E wheels further down the line as well so I may be better off going for the 19's if I plan on taking them off later on.

4. Bose Sound System - I don't currently have the Bose specced as my previous BMW had Harman Kardon and I couldn't really tell much difference compared to other cars which didn't. But then again, I don't play music all that loud and half the time I just have the radio on rather than my own music. Would anybody advise against having the standard sound system? My only thought is that being an EV and much quieter than what I'm used to, I may notice reduced sound quality more. The standard sound system can't be too bad though, can it?

5. Interior - I've been thinking about going for the partial Black/Chalk beige with Neodyme accents but haven't ever seen this in the flesh. Has anybody gone for this or a similar option and has some pictures?

Are there any other options which people regret not adding or wish they'd not bothered with?

Cheers

Always fun to play with people’s options list!

Firstly mamba green is also what I’ll be going for so nice choice! My personal opinions are you should drop the sports chrono option (you can select sport mode using a dedicated button under the bottom screen), I would also drop ambient lighting and the electric sport sound (To me it’s a gimmick you’ll use a few times then be bored off it - similar to fart mode on the Tesla).

I would try to get the Bose system if I was you, also I would definitely upgrade your lights and get the adaptive suspension along with the auto dimming rear view mirror and power steering plus.

Here is my version of your Porsche code trying to keep it as close to possible to your original price: http://www.porsche-code.com/PNFPCA83

Sport Chrono - offers more than what you’ve described (Individual mode for storing your own chassis, sound, suspension height etc). It’s an old Porsche icon which people insist on adding to the car. Personal choice but the dash mounted compass or clock spoil the dash and can create a reflection on the windscreen. The Sports Chrono dials on the steering column can be fiddle to use and the function of it replaced by configuring My Screen on the dash. Typically expected on higher performance models. Note that you get Sport mode as standard which gives you launch control so you won‘t be missing out if you drop it.

Sport Sound is different to the mandatory pedestrian noise made at low speed. I find it annoying / tedious after a while and rarely if ever switch it on. In Sport mode and above when pressing on (country roads) there is an electronic downshift / throttle blip which is entertaining. You won’t miss it if you drop it..

Wheels - 19” wheels are too small IMHO. 20” Turbo Aero are just fine. Ride is great given you have added air suspension.

Bose is a must have - you will enjoy radio 4 so much more - fantastic setup in the Taycan.

Interior - extended leather is the normal go to option (too much cheap plastic on display otherwise) but it is pricy. Chalk is a beige colour and a favourite in USA - I think black / crayon is better and I would avoid neodyme as IMHO is looks chintzy.

Consider:

1. ideally Rear Axle Steering which bundles Power Steering Plus (PSP)
2. 360 Surround cameras - a must, wide car and helps with viewing kerbs etc.
3. Pano roof - a must - dark otherwise and claustrophobic
4. Ambient lighting I would skip
5. Public charge cable (many public EVSEs are untethered so you could get caught short)
6. 7.5m cable

I am in very close agreement with W1NGE.

BTW are you getting performance battery plus? No. 1 option imo but ymmv.

I skipped Sport Chrono / Sport sound / ambient lighting.
Don't think I miss any of them.

I would say essential in the UK are:
surround parking
folding mirrors
adaptive air suspension. This is really useful on speed bumps and car park ramps etc. I wasn't going to spec it but was convinced on this foru.m.

Glad I went pano roof and Bose too.

100% Bose is worth it - the best Bose in a Porsche Ive ever heard. I currently have a 4S loaner with the base stereo and it's not great if you care about your music.

Chalk interior is my second choice next to my first, red. I do love neodyme accents.
Closet photo I can find with neodyme accents:
