Somebody posted an aftermarket amplifier that plugged into the VW group connector exiting the PCM so the controls remain the same but some expertise and kit was needed to balance the sound using, presumably, DSP in the aftermarket unit so it can be made compatible with whichever car interior it gets installed in I suppose. That sounds daunting. Has anyone installed an aftermarket audio system that (1) fits without hacking trim- e.g. behind dash, OEM speaker covers, and the underfloor boot cavity to add a subwoofer (2) is an improvement on the Porsche standard kit and (3)i works with the PCM- Porsche might have made it deliberately difficult to swap out individual components?
IME it is more likely the drive units are the limiting factor than the electronics. There are subs which would fit in the space under the boot hatch though no idea about wiring.
The standard system will have to be super crap for me to bother with any of that!

(came with Bose as standard- it's OK, though before I changed my order from 4S I hadn't bothered to opt for Bose as I wasn't expecting to listen to anything. As it turns out, the quietness of the cabin has encouraged me to enjoy music on the less involving stretches of driving. Unfortunately I have no experience of the non-Bose alternatives to offer a comparison).
