Just wondering what others are experiencing with respect to the following conditions:

Battery fully warmed
350kw EA charger
Standard charging settings (not battery conserve mode)
Starting state of charge approximately 40 percent.

In this scenario I generally get about 160kw until about 55-58 percent. Then it goes down to about 110kw to about 85 percent then lower thereafter.

The charging curves I’ve seen online suggest 250-270kw 0-25 then at least 175kw all the way to 80 percent or so - but these charge tests always start with a very low state of charge (5 percent or lower).

Just wondering is starting from a low state of charge results in higher charge rates even over 55 percent (compared to starting at a 35 or 40 percent state of charge).

Thoughts?

Maybe you have the "battery healthy charging" option turned on on the charging menu on the car?

On our road trips, we generally start charging around 15-20%. 2020 Taycan Turbo usually starts at EA stations at about 140-160 kW just as you have seen. I believe there are different on-board chargers as standard equipment or options that determine max charge rates. I believe I have the most basic.

They’re all the same for 800VDC charging.

The options are for 400VDC and L2 charging.

I think there is a lot of variability between EVSEs but my charging rates are generally higher than you indicate. Here are some photos and screenshots from my last road trip…

Did you put the EA station as destination on the car’s gps and drove for 20min beforehand?
What is your battery temp when you plug?
I never plug when I’m at 40% and often at 5 to 10 but here is an example at 14% when the battery is warm.
And afterwards it continues to go up a bit

Usually my experience is on par with yours OP. Once or twice I have gotten a short while at 200-250 but typically it is quite a bit lower.

could be the station and not your vehicle - there is not enough data shown during charging with any vehicle or charger to determine why charge rate is what it is

your scranario is not only plausible -it is common - and the reason for the lower rate may be entirely external to the vehicles

there are a lot of variables to factor that we do not have access to.

Normal behaviour and SOC already too high to get a higher charge rate.

Nothing awry with your car settings either.

As mentioned by others many external variables outside your control at play here including throttling / load balancing of power to the EVSE in use by the Operator.
