Musk

big bet on a non-existent product

Model S is still unmatched in some dimensions as a near-luxury EV sports sedan

it's unclear why they didn't do a refresh…

Model X is also an interesting thing to walk away from - it still is largely unmatched as a near-luxury SUV

having owned 2 S's and a 2 X's I still feel they are unmatched products in some dimensions but as they are yeah they need to be refreshed…

automotive gig is hard - especially with various govt. walking away from EV support

seriously however a robot?

Musk

I'm still shocked to this day how little interior volume/space there is in the Taycan given it's similar dimensions to the Model S…and the S's 13 year old tech in some ways is still unmatched by any EV luxo-sport sedan offering…

but it makes sense if you're not going to iterate on the product - which coming up with a new version of a $100k+ sports sedan given today's world wide EV sedan market - yeah not going to go there…I get that.

Porsche is barely interested in that market…

S/X was such low volume it was irrelevant. The S form factor is also pointless. Sedans are dead, like Taycan & Panamera

Fremont was at full capacity, Austin is not even close. They could do their robots in Texas so that's just an excuse to kill off S/X.

Teslas focus is only Model Y which peaked already. As Tesla keeps losing in China their volume will be even less in 2026.

$2b is to going XAi and some silly robots. Nothing else in the pipeline that can increase volume, only vaporware

This along with FSD going completely subscription based makes me think that even Tesla will be a company that only provides leases and subscriptions for their products. You will own nothing.

it's pretty clear they are not selling and that's the main reason, all i see is new Model Ys on the roads here all day long... rare to see a Model S.
The "Other" tesla sales this quarter that includes S X and Cybertrack totaled 11k for Q4 25, so very low sales while 3/Y models sales in mid 6 figures.

In Q4 2025, Tesla delivered 418,227 vehicles, a 15.6% decline from Q4 2024, missing analyst expectations. Deliveries consisted of 406,585 Model 3/Y vehicles and 11,642 "Other" models (S, X, Cybertruck). Total Q4 revenue was $24.9 billion, with $17.69 billion from automotive.
Tesla Q4 2025 Sales/Delivery Breakdown:
  • Total Deliveries: 418,227
    • Model 3/Y: 406,585
    • Other Models (S/X/Cybertruck): 11,642
    • Total Production: 434,358

They stopped making RHS S and X already so UK, Japan and other countries largely stopped buying them.
We never got the Cybertruck anyway, nobody except the odd tradesman uses trucks here so the market is tiny.
I quite like the model 3 but don't like sitting on vinyl upholstery in winter or summer.

Nothing about the fancy technology interests me - I am an old petrolhead who likes driving but has known for years of my car design experience how poor piston engine's power bandwidth is.
The Taycan is probably the only car that appeals to me, everything but having too much technical dross on it which guarantees it will age badly :(

As an S Plaid owner, this makes me sad.

As @daveo4EV said, it’s a compelling package overall - far from perfect, but does most everything very well.

In the US, this also means that the cost of a new car with Plaid-equaling performance will be DOUBLE going forward - ugh.

Here’s hoping that the new BMW M3 EV will fill that gap!

Factory space converted to build Optimus robots. Well guess I'm not looking at a Plaid for my birthday this year.

Now if Porsche kills off the Taycan or bumps the price another $20k then I guess I'm keeping my Cayman.
I always felt that this Forum was for current or X Tesla drivers, due to the amount of USA members banging on about Tesla, now I am convinced. Shame really. Let's talk about PORSCHE.

Or maybe just don't read threads with the title like this one. Then everybody's happy....

Nah! That's not the answer. I am interested in all threads on a Porsche Taycan forum, just in case someone talks about a Porsche Taycan.

One of the few fast EV sedans getting discontinued is going to affect the market for Taycans. The plaid set records, and we got the turbo GT as an answer, albeit not in the same price range.

Bollocks! The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT was not built as an answer to any Tesla. My worry with the amount of USA owners on this forum is, as I said originally, that an awful lot of you are, or have been Tesla owners and I feel that the site has been corrupted to a certain extent. The Taycan is a Porsche, but I feel that if it wasn't electric, some of you guys would still be living with your Tesla myth and not be interested in a Porsche. You do seem to lack the passion, that Porsche ownership should bring. Should I post this on a Tesla USA site as the OP should have done?

LoL! God forbid any of us want a better product and we expect companies to learn from one another.

Taking umbrage here. As an American, I recognize that I am sitting in a glass house on a wide range of geo-political issues based purely on where I live. It sucks and I have to accept that….the US is clearly “going through some things right now”. However, I will not stand by and be accused of being a Tesla fan boy on top of every other indignity that we have been forced to endure. It’s just too much.
