I'm starting to look in to this myself now. We've got a friendly contractor who specialise in Solar and EV unit installs so can use them and they've asked about preference for units.

I mentioned the Andersen A2 that's mentioned on here and his immediate response was that they've only ever installed 2 of them and that the price was excessive for what it does.

Recommended these two just as starting points...

https://www.projectev.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Product-Datasheet-EVA-07S-SE-EVA-07S-SE-C.pdf

https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Produc...lurl&msclkid=50bc2ce10d041b0cc6d64f0f766e45e9

He mentioned they'd regularly installed Zappi units too.

...but I've no idea about the benefits or drawbacks of any unit.

Is there a particular concern over the app functionality or is it the case people just use the car's system for programming charge etc?
They all do the same thing and typically you don't use any of the features they may come with.

Programming of a charging session is performed from the Porsche App or PCM.

Why not simply use the one you get with the car - perfect for single phase 7.4kW?

If not using Porsche them I'd go Anderson.

Sorry, but what on earth are those electrified fish tank things!?

And so not a complete thread hi-jack, I have the pulsar wallbox too (just 1 though) and think it's very good.

I asked the rep today and got this...

Unfortunately a wall unit does not come with the Taycan, it is something that you have to buy completely separately. Porsche do recommend Andersen EV but you are not tied to any particular company.

I dunno if it's me or him who are confused now.

if they're all much of a muchness and you don't use their features, why go for the Andersen at twice the price? Not saying I won't, just curious as to why tovbother with it.

I have a Zappi. It’s been 100 reliable over 2 years. It will integrate solar panels and a charger etc if needed.

That is utter rubbish.

Your car is supplied with the Porsche Mobile Charger Plus (PMC+) which can be wall mounted.

Review the standard spec of your car and you will see this listed as standard.

In respect of the A2 check the specs as it may be 22kW (3 phase supply) rated to explain the higher price. Will work at 7.4kW on a single phase 32A supply.

Beyond this you are paying for a tethered unit and concealed EVSE to car cabling plus can be installed almost anywhere.

That's what I thought reading some of your posts on various threads today.

Sure I saw someone else they hadn't got theirs yet (is that possible or woiud it definitely come with the car?)

I was trying to get my head round the difference between a ESVE and a Charger...

Is the PCM+ unit not waterproof then and can only be installed indoors / needs a cover?

Still trying to decide whether a tethered unit is best or not. Saves digging the cable out of the car each time being the main benefit?

EVSE = Electric Vehicle Structured Equipment= Wallbox.

None of the devices are "chargers".

All EVs have both am onboard AC and DC charger.

The EV controls the charging process.

An EVSE or wallbox simply provides a dedicated safe supply of electricity - nothing more and nothing less.

I have a new GTS ST sitting at the dealership. I have an existing 4S. Both are supplied with an EVSE.

Your Sales Person sounds completely ill informed.

Like I suggested read the standard spec of any Taycan (or hybrid Porsche) and all are supplied with an EVSE.

Where do you plan to install your EVSE / wallbox?

PCM+ is IP54 rated.as is the PMCC and most other EVSEs. It can therefore be installed outdoors but I would recommend under some protective cover.

Tethered has its advantages but can look untidy if cable not stowed correctly.

Untethered can lead to a simple wall mounted unit with a receptacle to plug the EVSE to car cable. You then have to store the cable somewhere and connect each time you charge.

Ok so you'll probably want something that is fairly discrete then rather than use your PMC+ which doesn't have the aesthetic qualities you might want.

Set a budget and looke at Zappi, Hive, Anderson, others - https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/home-electric-vehicle-chargers.

Note the the reference to 'chargers' is misleading for the reasons given above. The charger is always in the car.

Check with your electricity supplier also as they might have something suitable.

Make sure you get a 32A fused supply from your main fuse board, 32A receptacle and cabling to ensure you get 7.4kW.

You can then use your PMC+ as a belt and braces portable unit using the 13A plug supply connection when off grid. Alternatively, you could install in a garage and simply run the EVSE to car cable under the door when needed.

I wanted the most discreet EVSE I could find, for the front of the house and went untethered. Initially getting the Porsche supplied cable in and out of the frunk daily.

But I then added a coiled charging cable, which I leave plugged in, leaving a spare cable in the car.

Works well for me.

My Zappi was installed at the weekend. Taycan ownership is finally starting to feel real now, after 16 months of waiting. Only a few weeks to go. Hopefully.

I’ve had the Zappi 2 charger - over a year now - worked absolutely fine. Also has the advantage of different charging modes if you have solar installed. One further advantage is you don’t suffer from earth trip issues and the price is better than Anderson.
I went Zappi as I have solar. Worth adding that I have had one fairly minor problem and their support was first class.
