Maybe the new PCNA President from BMW M will be successful in convincing Stubborn Stuttgart that we need NACS since BMW has joined. I really would like the new Macan EV for the wife but without NACS the Mercedes EQE AMG is a better choice for us.

Hah, good one -- I'll repost it to the Taycan MySpace page!

I'm still happy though that I bought my 4CT, especially since V3 TSCN access won't be available to anyone until around June 2024. (Well, other than for Tesla drivers!)
And when I stopped by a BMW i5 premiere night last night, the dealership manager told me to abandon any hope (even the slightest!) that the upcoming wagon variant ("Touring") will be coming here.
He did though show me that the upcoming S6 etron will be coming here (along with the A6 etron of course), although unclear whether just sedan version or also the wagon variant ("Avant"), and whether the sedan will be just a sedan or a hatchback (as in the prototypes).
M5 wagon (estate) will be coming to the US. That is the only long roof coming though. It will be a V8 PHEV, same set up as in the tragically ugly XM. I am watching the A6 ETron closely, if they bring the Avant over, it will be my replacement EV when I am trading the Taycan in.

Yes, the dealership manager confirmed the eventual arrival here of the M5 Touring.
He also confirmed that the Q6 debut appears to have leapfrogged the A6 etron, which was originally supposed to be the first VAG EV on the new platform.
Speaking of the XM, this rather modest dealership has somehow sold two of them. And now has the XM red label variant. A sales person took me out to it and even had me sit behind the wheel and turn on the engine just for fun. We were both rather perplexed by the $189k MSRP!

That appears to be an offhand comment at a planning meeting (for a city of only ~8k people).
Then again, the Tesla employee who made the offhand comment is definitely in a position to know the definitive plans.
So perhaps this was a leak -- whether intentional or otherwise.
But could also just mean that two months from now is when they're proceeding with various internal measures.
Stay tuned!

My understanding is that the adapters are going to be merely passive devices.
And the authorization is tied to the vehicle, not the adapter.
Or perhaps authorization will be via the app with a one-time authentication upon setup ... in which case, an enterprising Bolt owner could loiter at an EA that shares a parking lot with TSCN (a common arrangement in the Northeast), and offer to authorize a CCS1 charging session (for a price of course).
Alternatively, each of us could buy the cheapest Bolt possible, put it up on blocks (next the door-less refrigerator and the moldy couch on the porch), and use its app authorization for a Taycan.

That would be the simplest - authentication via Tesla API vs. plug-and-charge which will differ between manufacturers. Just enter the stall number and off you go charging. Unless of course Elon wants to make sure no sharing is happening and will force the software to retrieve the VIN and deny service is not from an approved manufacturer.

Maybe, if EA chargers are broken. Tesla will be more expensive. Their biggest advantage though is locations which don't have EA in the same lot.

Buy a Bolt. convert it to home power backup (your home runs from the Bolt battery during power outage or when electricity is expensive), use the adapter for the Taycan.

For a more technologically advanced solution, buy an old Model S with unlimited lifetime supercharging, yank out its DCFC controller (speaks Tesla protocol) and make a CCS adapter out of it Use the car itself as home power backup.

Hilarious how they framed it as a “government and industry collaboration at its best”. :CWL: “Industry capitulation to Tesla despite strenuous government objections” sounds more accurate to me, but I guess that's why I work in engineering and not PR or politics. ;)

Did anyone shell out the $195 to see the spec yet?

Good article with this great quote -- "The Tesla NACS charging plug is a thing of beauty. In comparison, the CCS fast charging plug is big, heavy, and clunky. The NACS plug invites people to use it. The CCS plug dares people to use it. It’s a subtle point but an important one when you are trying to make people comfortable before trying something new."

Makes you wonder what was going on when CCS1 was developed. I doubt that anyone in the room had EV experience.
