@porsche_coyote I was refering to @LukeManning comment that we won’t see if for some years…

it’s already on MY’2021 - I’m wondering if there is some necessary hardware missing from MY’2020 such that a firmware update could not add this feature to MY’2020 Taycans - if so - it will be disappointing.

I wouldn't hold my breath! Getting everything to play nice between the Porsche Connect App and Electrify America stations is already tricky enough - can't imagine what it will be like when they start trying to implement this into the car.

I also haven't seen any official announcement from Porsche about this yet, but I will keep my eyes peeled :surprised:

Luke, look back to my question a few minutes ago to get your thoughts on options.

I asked my service rep and he had no idea what I was talking about!!!!
Do you live in Texas? If so, I can give you one of my service guys numbers to call and have him check the VIN.

Otherwise, I might bring the car by your local service center and have them do it.

My understanding is that Porsche has already been reaching out to people who need it done.

We never honestly asked you as a Porsche Salesman selling a new model like the Taycan, what would you believe would be the most used, worth the money on the front and and good options for potential resale (i.e. what does a good 4S spec look like to you)? I know it is a hard question but since you sell them, you know what sells. Thoughts?
Great question! I love configuring cars with clients and trying to help people walk through their choices. I think some screenshots will help. I am using the MY21" Configurator for a Taycan 4S:

1. A Metallic Color - They're $800 which is relatively inexpensive for metallic paint. Unless you just really like Black or White, go with the metallic paint options.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562182814

2. Upgraded Wheels - At least go with a 20" unless you need MAX range. Otherwise, try to at lease paint the 19" Black or something.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562282366

3. Wheel Caps in Painted Crest - Silly I know, but people ask me for this all the time.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562317052

4. 14-way Seats - AT LEAST get 14-ways. 18 is a little unnecessary even though I do love them. No one really likes the 8-way seats in any of our cars.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562385299

5. Premium Package - In my opinion one of the most important options to select. On the Taycan if I see one without this, most people don't go back in and add some of the most important options in and their builds end up lacking quite a few really nice features. For the money I think this will be a huge resale factor.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562462089

6. Power Folding Mirrors - Maybe not as important as some others, but is something I would option.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562495471

7. Electric Sport Sound - Cause it's so cool. You will be able to add later via FOD is my understanding, but just option it from the get go
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562545930

8. Larger Performance Battery Plus - This will be a huge resale factor in my opinion. I'd say 95% of people wanting the Taycan are going to want not only the range but the performance of the 93.4 kWh battery.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562573241

9. Sport Chrono and Rear Axle Steering - Out of any of the performance upgrades these are the 2 that I think most people will be keeping an eye out for on the pre-owned market. Sport Chrono really is almost expected in something like a 911, and I think people will want it in the Taycan too. The Rear Axle Steering is one of those things once you experience it you never want to go back to without it (like parking sensors or a heated seat...)
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562647140

10. Panoramic Glass Roof - Is in the Premium Package, but please get this even if you don't do Premium Package. It has 9 layers of tinting, the top 3 are coated in Zinc so unfortunately you aren't getting a tan in the car because it is over 99% UV reflective. No real noticeable heat difference from the metal roof.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562881331

11. Heads Up Display - Not a make or break for resale value, but a lot of people love this option (especially if coming from a BMW)
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562919437

12. Lane Change Assist - The fact this isn't standard bugs me. Please get Blind Spot Monitoring, it's 2020. Even if you don't want it 90% of people expect it.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598562956678

13. Porsche InnoDrive incl. ACC - If you're coming from a Tesla you're going to expect/want this system. I think this is going to be another huge driver for resale. Please at least option ACC on if you don't want InnoDrive as that is the only way someone can later add InnoDrive as a FOD.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598563030050

14. Ventilated Seats - Heated seats in the front are standard (rear is optional) but Ventilated Seats are an option. If you live in an area where the outside air temp in the summer gets above 80 Fahrenheit you will appreciate this option, and if you don't the next buyer will.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598563105389

15. Heated Steering Wheel - Literally one of the cheapest Porsche options. I'd pay $500 for this honestly, get it.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598563149706

16. Smoking Package and Storage Package - ADD IT ITS FREE!!! Seriously, why not. It's a removable ash try. Great paperweight, I use one on my desk for paper clips. I bet it's $7000000 if you want to buy it afterwards. Storage Package is kind of 50/50 on whether it's important to you or not, but the more storage the better in my opinion!
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598563222099

Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598563723053

17. Porsche Crest on Headrest - Honestly if you're skimping on not having full leather, do something subtle like this under the leather section. Looks great, and for some people is a must have option on their Porsche.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598563311977

18. Passengers Display and Bose - Please do both of these. Passengers Display is so cool, I promise. The Bose is one of the best sound systems I've ever heard. Burmester is awesome too, but a little too expensive in my opinion.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598563386855

19. On-Board 150 kW/400V DC Charger and Porsche Intelligent Range Manager - The quicker charger will be useful if you ever stop at a slow 50kW charging station, it is supposed to ramp up the charge to 150kW to shorten your charging time. PIRM can be added on later as a FOD but really you should always have this on the car, especially if you're ever planning to take a trip with it.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598563416502

20. 25ft Cable and Charging Dock - Again, cable is FREE! I heard rumor it was like $2,500 to get the extra length cable if you want it after the fact so just get it. Charging dock is really optional, but is really nice aesthetically, also holds your extra cable length. If you don't get this, just get a garden hose to hold up the cable and use the plastic dock that is provided with the PMCC.
Porsche Taycan Ask a Porsche Dealer Anything 1598563644588

Hope this helps! These are my opinions of what the most "important" options would be on a Taycan, especially for future resale value.

Most all of the other options are purely aesthetic and really are open to your personal preference.

One thing I will say about all Porsche's is that usually there is a certain point at which all the extra options don't really make for a car that has a "higher" resale value in the future. We often find that to be the case with cars like Cayenne or Panamera where people spend a ton optioning them out in the beginning, and then by the time they resale them they're really worth the same as a car optioned with $10k less in options. Yet, at some point options do make a difference and you will see a huge difference in resale...

Let me know if you think I'm missing something really important, or if you have any questions about how you should spec out your Taycan!

Hi Luke, you mentioned that the 150 on board is supposed to make charging faster at 50 KW DC stations. Can you explain that more? I thought it was to do with voltage on 150kw chargers. With 400 volt the car without the onboard will only do 50kw, but 800 volt it gets the full 150. Is that rubbish or correct?

Luke fair play for doing this thread, It's nice to see things from your side of the table, I can't believe everyone has been so kind

I'm an owner myself and I'm finding it frustrating trying to get issues with my Turbo looked into by UK dealerships
It's a shame more Porsche sales and tech guys don't expose them selves on these forums

I understand there will be times where you have to toe the line but so far it appears you're giving honest opinions

A couple of things I would like to ask

1- do you think Porsche will improve the PCM to make navigating things more user friendly?

2- do you think the passenger screen will eventually serve a purpose?
You can't control Apple Music or Maps on car play which is the main reason I purchased the option
I'm hoping that this is sorted at a later date

Cheers
Dan

Dan,

Thank you! Just hoping to help someone if I can.

In response to your questions

1- Yes. I think the Taycan is always going to be a work in progress and will continue to improve for years to come. This is a huge switch for any traditional auto manufacturer, especially Porsche. I know it's hard to say "give them time" but they really are trying super hard to continue to innovate and improve on the car.

2- Yes. In our trainings there were mentions of very soon having streaming options available for Passenger Display... Things like Netflix, Hulu, etc are in the works as we speak. Have no idea on timing, but I think that was the real thought behind the passenger display. Other than that, the Cockpit view is pretty awesome if you haven't used that.

From my understanding with the 150/400 on board charger upgrade if you were to per se pull up to a 50kW charging station that might take for example 4 hours to charge up your car, the on board charger would ramp up to try to get as close to 150kW charging, essentially cutting your charging time down by 2/3 to around 1.5-2 hrs.

I could've been explained this wrong, or maybe other members on the forum have a better description. Hope I'm not totally off base though!

Hi Luke, I couldn’t really understand that so I googled and found this. https://www.google.com/amp/s/electr...s-pay-for-the-optional-150-kw-dc-charger/amp/

Most DC charge points are 50/400 so the standard is fine. If there was a 150/400, not many if any of them, then you need the upgrade. Charging at 50/400 or 50/800 not any of them is the same.

I confirmed this is true with two caveats:
1. Percent of 150/400 varies by region, so saying there are not many of them is not true for everyone.
2. There was speculation that Porsche’s 50 kW charger could not get as close to 50 kW as the 150 kW charger. I don’t know if that was ever definitively answered.

At the moment no. Plan is to have more applications be downloadable to the home screen.
OK, so I can sort of understand why covered the third row - to make first time users 'aware' that they can scroll for additional icons. But I work with a lot of human factors folks, and one thing that drives everyone nuts is when you put a feature into something to 'train' firstime users, and it then becomes useless or worse afterwards. That would appear to be the case here.

There are other, more aesthetically pleasing ways to delineate additional pages. As an example, iOS just shows non-intrusive, light colored dots to show additional pages of apps exist. Or, a scroll bar could be put along the edge. I'm definitely in the camp that doesn't like the partially covered icons.
