You wrote that Taycan OBC and heater were not designed by Porsche. Do Tesla and some other EV manufacturers handle things differently?

Porsche just did their WPU1 recall/fix/upgrade on my 2021 Porsche Mobile Charger. Currently I'm using a 3rd party charger at home and its working well but I do have the original fancy housing for the Porsche mobile charger.

Q: Is there a downside to switching back to the Porsche charger (which never gave me any problem) ... for example does it still default to 20Amp charging rather than 40Amp? That would be a deal killer for me.

You should be able to switch back and get 9.6kw charging. There is a new temperature sensor in the pigtail they replaced that will cause the charging to stop if temperature in the cord or connector exceeds a safety threshold.

i recently switched from a premium EVSE to PMCC+. After 1 day, I switched back:

IMO the only thing PMCC+ has going for it is the aesthetically pleasing physical design. The in-app UI, data, and experience is very basic and any premium EVSE with a supported app like the Chargepoint Flex will be a better experience.

For what it’s worth, my PMCC pigtail was replaced for a second time just a month ago. The new pigtail has a better heat sensor according to the SA.

I don’t use this device at all, but I do carry it in my car. Not as small as other portable level two chargers, of course but hey! I already own it.

updated to include threads about the lack of compatibility with Kona vehicle's…yet another victory for Porsche EVSE's (not).

2025 Taycan

I have a 2025 Taycan that came with their base mobile charging unit that charges at 9.6 kW (4.8 kW @ 50%). I live in the USA and I am interested in a charging unit that is compatible with the NEMA 14-50 plug in my garage and can deliver up to 40 amps of current. I noticed that Porsche sells a mobile charger connect (PMMC) unit that integrates with the MyPorsche app to monitor charging sessions. After reading this thread it is apparent that: (1) Many users in the USA have had issues with the PMCC; and (2) When searching on-line, it looks like the PMCC is not even available for sale in the USA right now. So..... Can someone please recommend an alternative to the PMCC that provides similar functionality. Most important features to me are: (1) Ability for faster charging than my current Porsche mobile charging unit; and (2) Ability to monitor charging sessions with an app on my iphone. If it also integrates with the MyPorsche app that would be a bonus. Any suggestions would be most welcome....

1) 9.6 kW charging speed (240V @ 40 amps) is the mathematical limit for _ANY_ and _ALL_ NEMA 14-50/6-50 chargers - given a given circuit breaker/electrical circuit there is no such thing as a "faster" charger - the charging limit is dictated by the capacity of the charging circuit, and the Porsche EVSE unit(s) maximizes the charge rate for a NEMA 14-50/6-50 outlet - as do other non-Porsche EVSE's

if you want to charge faster you will have to move beyond a NEMA 14-50/6-50 outlet into a hardwired non-mobile EVSE and have a qualified electrician upgrade your EVSE circuit to 60/70/80/90/100 amps

but upgrading your electrical circuit is insufficient - you then also need to purchase a higher speed EVSE (of which there are many choices) and also have an EV with a higher charge limit…aligning these 3 factors is more difficult than it sounds and requires careful research and purchasing choices

Factory Standard Taycan's are limited to 11 kW max charging speed - there was an optional 19.2 kW factory upgrade option, but it has reliability problems and it no longer an option for Taycan and Porsche is licking it wounds attempting to support existing customers that went down this route

so from a practical matter Taycan is a 11 kW EV for home charging (60 amp breaker, 48 amp charge speed, EVSE must be hardwired - no plug based EVSE's exist that do 60 amps in North America - not allowed by building codes)

post #82 on this thread lists the top 6 EVSE choices that are an alternative to the Porsche units

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...e-evse-pmc-pmcc-pwcc.13886/page-6#post-333694

some of these choices are plug based and some are hardwired…

my personal top 2 are the Tesla Universal Wall Charger and/or the ChargePoint Flex - both have app based monitoring

there are no EVSEs (other than the Porsche units) that integrate with the myPorsche app.
