Having had a Taycan previously, I have to say range anxiety was never a problem. Even going to London, it’s easy to plan a route taking in Ionity fast chargers. The car is recharged in the time it takes to get a Starbucks and pay a call of nature. Plus, you have the satisfaction of knowing electricity incurs only 5% tax here in the UK compared to nearly 70% on petrol / diesel. It’s a golden era before we all get charged per mile.

As to your point about retaining an ICE car, I can’t dispute that. I’m currently in the process of repatriating my very first 911, which I tracked down in the Republic of Ireland with the help of my Porsche dealership, having agreed to buy it from it’s new owner. I’m as excited about it’s return as I am the Taycan. On that note, if anyone knows if I can escape having to pay VAT on re-importing that car back to the UK from the Irish Republic having already paid VAT on the car with the same VIN given I was it’s first owner, please comment. I’m otherwise facing a 20% premium that will make it very much a purchase with the heart rather than the head.
It’s only available for recent orders and is visible on MyPorsche app. I don’t have it. My order was July 21 , building now. Ready Feb 20-25.th. Not all dealers had It to start with. And it’s only a very recent thing for the U.K. You need to receive a link from your dealer. If they don’t have one then it’s not available to you at this time.
You ordered in July and expect del 20-25 Feb. I’m curious to know when you locked in your options??
I ordered start of Sept so if there’s any consistency in the process (doubtful) I should be getting my del in April, but I change my mind about options every day!!
I need to start preparing mentally for lockdown day - lockdown of a different type?

I ordered Mid July. My SA got an allocation (I think around early December). He told me to confirm my build each time I spoke with him I case Porsche lock in without notice (which can happen!) late Dec he confirmed that my build “ready date” (not del date) was Feb 25th. (At that time he briefly mentioned Jan 10 lock. )A week later (early Jan) I deliberated my build and changed it. Then a week later I asked if the lock date of Jan 10 was still on time and he checked and said Porsche had already locked it! So don’t think these timings are fixed !!! Be aware. It’s fluid if they suddenly confirm your build, they don’t change for anyone when it’s locked. It’s done. No changing. I’m sure your Sa has you sign a sales order each time ? That’s why they do it. Just in case….

Thanks - good info!!
I better get to it. At the mo on my budget it’s a choice of full leather and Taycan excl wheels or mission E’s and no full leather

I’ll be definitely asking the question. They certainly have time to complete the update, assuming dealers have now been given instructions on how to update to the new variant (does anyone know if they have yet in the UK?); I’ve provisionally agreed with the dealership to register mine as a 22 plate and take it on March 1. That still leaves little time given the vehicle has got to clear customs, be transported, get PDI’d, setup with my Porsche username and then have VTS configured. It took over 2 weeks post delivery to the dealership to do all that last time. My point is, turnaround of a vehicle upon arrival at the dealership can sometimes be a little glacial. It’s not the dealership’s fault. VTS requires them to liaise with Vodafone Italy and if they run into any technical issues on software setup, they have to wait for either Reading or Zuffenhausen to reply, which can take days. The days of stripping the plastic off, removing the transport blocks, polishing the car, driving it around the block and putting a tax disc in the corner of the windscreen are sadly long gone.

It’s not always that slow at the dealership. Mine arrived on a Friday afternoon and was ready to pick up on Tuesday morning. It depends what else they have on I suspect.

Believe it or not when I ordered a Boxster way back in 2004 they offered me the chance of going to do a factory collection which would have included seeing some of the final production.
Here’s the thing….
I would have had to pay my own travel costs AND pay Porsche for the privilege of collecting the car and driving it back!!
At least the air was free

Did Preston confirm your vehicle still has the shipping block on Gary? Apparently mine’s been removed and may be hitting a boat tomorrow (hopefully not literally). Can’t think yours will be far behind mine. You may want to complain to Porsche GB. Seemed to suddenly see mine get fitted with the missing parts, unless it was a huge coincidence. Will let you know as soon as mine lands, and whether the matrix lights are on. If they are, I’d safely assume yours are.

Just contacted dealer for update and was told it arrived in UK a few days ago and should be with them any day now so must have come on same ship as yours was very surprised as was informed last Tuesday that it was still at docks and not due to be shipped so like yourself have decide to wait until 1st March to register and can also organise full PPF in next couple of weeks etc lets hope matrix lights are fitted, so today seems to be a good day

That's right - its always been the case about cost and if I remember rightly it was an Option to tick (Factory collection).

Has anyone heard anything about the cars delivered into Grimsby on Friday 4th Feb

The last I heard on Monday was that my car had been on the boat and the boat had reached Grimsby but that the system at the dealer was showing that they hadn’t been checked in to Grimsby at that point.

Im hoping now it’s in Grimsby that there’s no missing semi conductors.

No more waiting please!! Fingers crossed!!

???

The information flow has been less than optimal! Can’t understand why the tracking facilty that US customers have isn’t available to us in the UK.

This will be my third Porsche but first one I’m taking straight out the box. If it wasn’t for the BIK saving I’m not sure I’d do it again. As long as the govt is crazy enough to ‘pay’ for half my car I’ll be ordering every 3 years!! ?. Although tbh I can’t see the present situation surviving past 2024. Be interesting to see what happens to sales then.
Hi, could you explain how the government is paying for your car? Im self employed in the construction industry and not sure if i can qualify for any sort of kickback.
Cheers!

For reference, post Brexit, it can take at least 7 days to clear customs at U.K. ports. Assuming there are no issues with the paperwork. I assume this is the cause for delay.

Congrats Gary on your good news! Think it’s safe to assume our vehicles will now arrive at the dealership on the same transporter. Let me know if you hear yours has arrived. Will prove ironic if our cars are in adjacent handover bays on March 1 (and we end up both expressing frustration that our cars haven’t been updated to the latest PCM software build!)
