Yea, RAS does make it impossible for me to park the Taycan as tightly as I used to park a Model S, which is almost the same size, but no RAS. It also requires very shallow angle approach. This is as close as I can get (there is a "lip" in front of the Taycan, so I cannot just pull in/out straight). You can see the rear is not as close as the front, as the back swings out when I pull the front closer to the side. Side note, all of Taycan's electronic parking aids (cameras, 3D view, ultrasonic sensors) are completely useless for parking within less than a foot of any obstacles.

Do you have to wear ear plugs to park? I can’t imagine all the sensor beeps and shits that instead of warning you annoys the hell out of you while parking. Also, I have not even came to that close to my garage door and few times the car would just brake hard by itself to “avoid” a crash, which freaked me out. It’s ridiculous.

I wonder why that would be region specific. Is the RAS deflection different in different countries?
I honestly don't know but could be.

It may be regulation related but can't think why.

Seems a good idea to have the option.

There is a mute button on the screen while the parking assistant is active. As someone with a similar garage situation (prompting me to start this thread), I am very familiar with the mute button.

and few times the car would just brake hard by itself to “avoid” a crash, which freaked me out.
The same screen has a button to deactivate the automatic braking, too.

Two very helpful buttons:

Also, if you forget and the car does automatically brake, pressing hard on the accelerator to get it going again is not a great idea is such closed quarters - workarounds are put it in park and back in reverse, or in drive and then back in reverse. Tesla has a better solution for when HOLD is engaged, simply pressing on the brake pedal again releases the hold, but Taycan isn't there yet. On the way out of the garage, car starts with auto-braking disabled since it thinks it's already touching the wall on startup, but the noise is still there until I mute it.

Oh by the way, it may also be worth to lower the volume of the parking assistant. You can also modify the amount the music volume gets lowered when it's active.

I thought about doing that since the default is indeed rather loud, but so far it was really only annoying in my own garage, and there I mute anyway. We will see...

Sensitivity of the auto hold can be adjusted to brake later rather than earlier.

You have an extra button than most as we typically don't option the Remote Parking Assist (pointless IMHO) which throws in more avoidance assist options.

It truly is an impressive level of parking.

Tried the “side” view, and can confirm it’s useful for narrow spaces where the problem is not front and back clearance (as parallel parking would have), but clearance to the sides of the car (as in my garage).

Here’s a photo. Probably difficult to make out without movement, but what you see on the right half of the screen is the sides of my (black) Taycan. On the right especially you can see the “curb” of my garage, and how close the tire is to it. On the left of the “squished” car you can see one of the pillars, the other problem of my garage.

The light blue lines likely account for mirror width (I don’t have power folding mirrors unfortunately).

This all makes sense, and again, is much more useful in narrow spaces instead of the front/back cameras.

Sadly this view is only available if you didn't spec parking assist/3D view.

By the way, does anyone know what “panorama” mode (second button from the bottom on my picture) is for? It seems to provide a wider view, possibly integrating multiple cameras together, but in a really weird view (“inverse fisheye”?), and without and guiding lines?

That's the wide-angle view from front or rear camera that may or may not be the "junction view " feature that is mentioned in the confuserator.

One day I realized that this is a great view when parked between 2 large vehicles that you can't see around. It clearly shows if any vehicles are coming down the aisle that you can't otherwise see.

Sweet, I will try that when backing out. I can even see why not having any guides makes sense there: you don’t need them if all you try to do is exiting a non-parallel parking spot.

One day I should gather all that parking camera stuff and put it into an extra thread.

Only reference I have is from the bmw x5 manual, a long time ago. If I remember correctly, you couldn't have snow chains with RAS enabled because there was a risk of the chains hitting the wheel housing (which makes total sense). I didn't even flitch when I saw that option in the pcm simulator as it just confirmed what I've read years ago.
My X5 45e had this option for driving with snow chains. I don’t see it in PCM however.

Then why is it in the simulator at all? ?

I'm worried. I've been training myself 4h daily on the sim so I don't look like an idiot at delivery day and now you people tell me there are non existent options.
