@Bognar67 Not so sure about point 5. All the cache clearing attempts did not work. I have had 7 visits with 6 times a SW upgrade. After all visits I left and within 500 meters the navigation crashed. Point 4 is not proven yet. We have multiple lucky ones in this thread wit a new PCM and fixed issues. We do not know for sure yet if it will come back.
Nothing is proven yet, of course (maybe points 1-4 as well). That is why we are here still.

In my case the following procedure solved the problem for couple of hundreds of kms (1st attempt from smart mobility):
  • Remove the user from PCM (Porsche Communication Management)
  • Set the privacy mode on
  • Switch off the ignition and lock the vehicle for 15 minutes
  • Unlock the vehicle and deactivate privacy mode
  • Re-establish remote access by adding a new user in PCM

The 3885 update did not solve the problem (2nd attempt from smart mobility) and the nav stopped to work after 6-8 min drive.

However yesterday evening I have made a two-finger-restart and since that the nav is working properly up to now after 1 day and ca. 1,5 hours total trip. I drove everywhere with active nav to provoke.

The procedures that helped me (temporarily) are cache clearings.

For how long I am not so optimistic.

Over on the German PFF.de site, user jenne71 just posted this, a response from a board member of Car-IT

https://www.pff.de/thread/2830829-navi-haengt-sich-auf/?postID=156445443#post156445443

TLDR is a software conflict in navi which is happening more frequently due increasing number of service stations. Implicitly this means update to 3885 is not a permanent fix as many have said.

=== Translation from Chat GPT which I confirm is accurate ===

Since the issue has really been getting on my nerves by now, I decided to contact Mr. Sajjad Khan, Member of the Board for Car-IT at Porsche AG, directly.

At least I received a response from Customer Relations the very next day – so now I’m hoping that the “experts” will quickly present a solution. I’m curious how long the announced update will still take to arrive.

Here is the wording for your information:

Dear Sir,

It is our aspiration to always provide you with a flawless experience. I personally very much regret that this standard is currently not being met with regard to the navigation system.

Internally, the challenges are already known. Our developers are working at full speed on a solution and will resolve this issue in an upcoming software update.

To help you better understand, I would like to explain the matter in more detail.
The challenges occur when active route guidance is running but no data can be loaded from the map database. This happens because another function temporarily blocks access to the data. This blockage lasts for a few seconds and occurs, for example, during map updates or when charging stations are being checked. Due to the increasing number of charging stations, these challenges are occurring more frequently.

Unfortunately, I am unable to provide you with a specific timeframe for when the issue will be resolved, as there is currently no information available regarding the timing of the fix.
Your Porsche Connect service will be extended for the duration of the outage.

I apologize for the inconvenience caused and ask for your understanding, as we are continuously striving to improve our services.

Our experts are doing everything they can to ensure that your Taycan 4S will accompany your journeys as soon as possible with excellent navigation.

Thank you very much for your trust in the Porsche brand.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

They don't. It's same hardware. Different providers for the memory modules though. MY26 may or may not have an extra chip to handle dolby atmos, but its more than likely not on the PCM PCB but on the sound board.

People can simulate a PCM replacement by resetting to default settings the car. It will wipe everything, and the navigation will work just fine with the planner for say 800-2000km.

From the info I have and communication i had, I'd be shocked if Porsche AG actually approves PCM replacement without the original PCM actually being bricked - and they definitely don't recommend this as a solution.

I do hope it works for you, but it likely will do no more than just be a temporary stop gap solution.

The issue is with whatever caching they are doing, it's not related to ram being broken or insufficent - think of a browser cache.
I am not sure what the magic Dolby Atmos is supposed to be, but on my MY26 I have Auro3D for Burmester just like on J1.1.
Or is the Atmos for YouTube or something like that?

It is just a codec right?

Dolby Atmos is a brand these days.
Technically it's a sound virtualization system that allows positioning sounds in 3D space. But of course that makes little sense in e.g. a smartphone with two speakers.
In home theatre setups it often refers to the height channels.
But really it's encoding sound positioning data digitally, so the sound system can decide where to play the sound instead of just encoding volumes per channel.
In stuff like car audio it's mostly related to upmixing, since there is no dolby atmos music natively.

Anyway, Burmester is using Auro3D for upmixing so I have no idea what Atmos is even used for in the car. Maybe I should dig around the menus more.

This backs up the observation many on this thread have had in that the system doesn't have enough memory. Numerous database writes are running out of RAM and on a computer would revert to "overflow" memory on the physical drive. I suspect the PCM doesn't have enough of either. In a personal computer you'd increase the RAM, but in a PCM obviously the only option is the much harder one of creating more efficient code.

To me it sounds more like a case of incorrect management of a common resource. The fact that multiple services attempt to access a single common resource simultaneously should not result in blocking.

There are many strategies to prevent this situation in concurrent programming. I am a bit baffled that the whole IT might behind Porsche isn't able to correctly manage what is essentially a classic mutex.

But hey, without having looked at their code, what do I know, right?

To me, it’s sounding like a threading issue. Code is blocking other code from executing. Not hardware-related, just poor SW development. Remember only directions are failing. Current position or rendering isn't. If it was HW all would fail.
