I’ve got an early May build slot on a saloon.
Leeds have just received their demo, crayon with big carbon spec, looks awesome
Metallic Black GTS ST is sitting in Porsche Leicester, though not useable for test drives.

Strangely, and it might be because black makes fat things look slim, I didn't think it looked as big as you'd expect.

Black doesn't suit the ST. Looks like a hearse or otherwise difficult even identifying what the car is, especially with the satin black Spyder alloys that work with lighter colours.

I do like crayon though my ST is specced classic: Carmine Red and with carbon wing mirrors, SD package, carbon leather GT steering wheel and carbon sills to complete the look. Excessive, yes but it's my first Porsche and it's only money ??

When did you order out of curiosity?
I ordered my ST in September (hedging and the dealer was in denial that the car would exist) and firmed up on launch day. I specifically requested Nov'23 delivery and so they simply let allocations slide until it ties up to my build window. No point in getting a MY22 (any Taycan) given the relatively short time to summer MY change.

Good to know and happy I'm down the waiting list, as I should imagine many Taycan buyers aren't aware of the imminent model change.

Hopefully should tie up nicely where Porsche Leicester told me 12-15 months, which means a spring 2023 build and hopefully a summer delivery, which would be beautiful.

And that also means plenty of time to change the configurator for the millionth time. GTS Racetex or non-GTS leather interior for a DD? Such a conundrum. I will unlikely track the car and I should imagine neither will owner #2, so that's making that decision easier as well.

Any idea of what changes might be coming down the pipeline in this MY change?

Not sure as I'm new here ?

From what I've read in this forum, it's primarily internal, so improved battery management and range, PCM updates, better battery technology, additional options (like the electric panoramic roof), and possibly some additional colour options.

For me there is never a right or wrong time, can get too caught up waiting for a model year that you never get the car! Also considering the interim model year changes are usually small; colors, some new options and so on.

Personally I would be concerned getting a Taycan next spring/summer though, if 2024 is to be a new model as such, not just an interim change but a facelift. 21 to 22 to 23 (excluding the PCM debate!) didn't really change much in my opinion, not sure in the real world if you would really notice.

But that is all speculation, could be 2024, could be 2025, who knows!

I wouldn't be surprised if the most significant change will be the price.
It's Porsche, so of course. I asked my dealer now I have put down my deposit, will the current price be honoured?

While he responded very politely, I know the actual words consisted of two: the first starting F, the second starting O, followed by a lot of laughter.

I've read elsewhere on these forums that the usual Porsche major update cycle is 7 years, and they will want to amortise all their R&D investment for as long as possible.

So 2026?

With the GTS not being readily available until 2023, it would be illogical to release a brand new model a year later.

I would expect the GTS to be "new" well into 2025 with my business hat on, and there is also a vested interest for Porsche - and the entire luxury car market - to keep residuals as high as possible, making that affluent audience seriously consider EV over ICE, as it then presents "better value". It's the "smarter" car purchase.

That also would negate the launch of a brand new model.

New battery technology won't be available until 2027-28 at the earliest and checking launch plans for other manufacturers in the same class as Porsche, I don't see any particularly exciting EVs dropping until well into the latter half of this decade.

I also think Porsche is purposely and massively undervaluing Taycans (see PCP calculations), where they know full well values will be maintained. The chip shortage is a blessing in disguise for the car industry as it's "trained" consumers into expecting and accepting a long wait.

It's turned luxury carmakers, the preserve of wealthy men, into their wife's Hermes handbag equivalents. That is huge waiting lists, very high desirability, scarcity, urgency, skewed price perception - these are all classic psychological persuasion tactics that elevates perceived value.

It then means when it comes to buying your next Taycan, you have a huge deposit to put down (purposely undervalued residuals on PCP) and the Porsche money train rolls on. Porsche will purposely keep wait times extended, enhancing desirability and meaning they can charge ever more for their cars and those overpriced options.

I am seriously considering buying shares in Porsche, which is turning into a car and a tech company, with a quite genius business model.

In short, none of us are getting any younger. If you want to be part of a lucky few owning and driving a Porsche, just do it and don't think about anything else. This isn't an iPhone.

Amen to none of us are getting any younger! Agreed, order one while you can and enjoy it.

7 years does tend to be the Porsche standard but then again a few of their traditions are changing, GTS always used to be somewhat the "last hurrah" for a particular model prior to a facelift, somewhat not anymore, or is it!

I think you are right, 2026 for a "New" Taycan, but potentially a facelift for 2024, hence my comment of something more than just a new option and color next year. I don't think Porsche will sit with the Taycan Saloon in 2025 looking as it did in 2019 somehow.

I only say this as it happened to me with a Macan GTS, by the time I got it the facelift Macan had come out and it looked outdated even though it was 6 months old!

If you expect delivery summer 2023 then I'd be tempted to get the first of the MY24 models - depends on your definition of 'summer" (July / August) and defer to October delivery.

Track your dream (TYD) isn't yet widely available so don't be surprised if it isnt.

Problem with that is the constant deferring means waiting a long time and defeats the tax reasons for purchase.

I'm buying through my company and favourable BIK lasts until April 2025, where I suspect the bandits at HMRC will hike it to 5% or more to "pay for the NHS, etc".

On a £100k car that's painful and nor am I paying it.

I only intend to keep my Taycan until then, before offloading it. If I don't take delivery until 2024, I'll likely enjoy the car less than 12 months. May as well rent one at that point.

Also anticipate Q1 2025 to be a good year to sell before a new Taycan model is (possibly) announced a year or two later, or maybe even a Mercedes AMG GT electric is announced (Taycan has a direct competitor reducing second hand value) - on the chance HMRC doesn't hike company car BIK above the 2%.

If they do, it means I enjoy my Porsche through my 40th year of life, offload it right before punitive tax comes in, then I'll get myself a Clio EV... Or I'll emigrate.
