Edit my guessometer on my CT4S is around 270 miles in summer and 235 in winter fwiw.

I really enjoy my 2021 Base Taycan, but will not replace with new. I may buy at lease end in August, depending on used market value and after extended warranty pricing.

I have been researching the BMW I4 Xdrive E40. Properly spec'd this car is very close to the Taycan. It has a superior Driver Assistance function (as good as a Tesla Autopilot) and is plenty fast enough. It utilizes a hatchback Grand Coupe design and while sporty, is very practical. This car fully spec'd would be about $60-65K below a Taycan 4S spec'd nicely. Taycan entry price and the resultant depreciation is hard to ignore. Reviews on both the BMW base and 4WD are excellent and range is comparable, not to mention that they will be moving to the NACS spec this year with the 2025 MY.

I guess I am spoiled! I have been driving 911 and GT car variants for over 10 years and can't seem to embrace the huge depreciation hit of the Taycan. IMHO, the car is great but not worth the total cost over a three year ownership period. A well spec'd 4S with an OTD price of $140k will cost after three years at least $73k (including a set of tires and mandatory Mx). Its good but not that good!

I recently had the M version of the i4 as a service loaner when my X1 was on the shop. It was a really nice vehicle. I thought very well priced vs the market when considering quality, features, dealer network, etc,

Only criticisms (and these are HIGHLY personal comments and others may see these as positives):
1- I didn’t like the instrument panel graphics. They seemed to be a bit too ‘gamer’ to me…and they seemed to be ‘graphic for the sake of being graphic’ as opposed to having purpose to the design
2- the car didn’t ‘feel’ like a EV. It felt like an ICE car that has its engine swapped for a motor. This wasn’t necessarily bad, but having had 4 EV’s, I like my EV to feel like an EV

Definitely a car to consider though, particularly at that price point.

Hoping this might help some people who are looking to buy …

So, depreciation keeps coming up in conversation. It’s fair to say Taycan has a sharp depreciation curve. Let’s reverse engineer this for a second. How many would buy again knowing what they know now? And how many would have bought used? I’ll go first, I sold my 4 year old Tesla at tail end of Covid for exactly what I paid for it 4 years prior (50k). I have a 2023 GTS I bought for 151k plus I got the 7500 rebate. I took that 50k out of Tesla, put it in Money Market yielding 5+% and took out a 84 month loan at 3.8% from my local credit union. Today that Tesla would have been worth 20k or less. So, I’m probably net neutral have a much cooler new car and I’d absolutely do it all over again. I can’t say I would have bought used then (market was 30k over sticker), with no inventory BUT if I had to buy now I’d 100% buy preowned. There’s nothing I’d want besides the Taycan - it’s phenomenal and will be for many years to come. I plan on keeping it 5+ years. Fingers crossed, one year car has been absolutely rock solid.

Definitely buy new again, and exactly the same (very personal) specs. 100% convinced.
Depreciation doesn’t matter as I plan to keep the car until end of useful life.

I have a slightly different view about this than many of these answers.

I agree with:
-Love the car, love how practical and how great a daily driver it is (when it works)

-i dont' know what i'd ever move to - i'm HOPING the Lotus electric SUV and sedan look great in person - i can't tell with images and videos online - AND we in the states have at least an extra year before Asia and Europe get them

-glad i waited a model year (got a '21) for them to work some of the kinks out

-bah - depreciation. every car has it. you can't choose a car based on this (or maybe some of you can?) i see a car as a depreciating asset and if i get anything out of it when i sell/trade it in I'm happy.

where i differ is there are some factual, how do i say, "inaccuracies" that WOULD HAVE CHANGED MY MIND had i known them beforehand :

-the range in my opinion is a joke. [especially lately] - maybe it's my car - maybe i need to take it in for service, but my miles / kw have been : 1.6, 1.8, 1.6, 1.4 1.5 1.8 1.8 1.8 1.7 1.6 1.7 1.8 2.0 1.9 1.8 1.9 1.8 1.7 1.9 1.8 (this is NOT in extreme cold). i think i agree with the sentiment of Americans want that mythical 300 miles on a full charge. this car is NO where near that, and the amount it does drop around freezing is ridiculous (not a Porsche-only issue) - again, something i wasn't aware about when i got the car (i knew it would degrade but i thought slightly, no as much as a third or a half gone)

-quality : great car - great everything. when it works and for those with cars without issues. I feel like there's too many issues of too serious a matter for a car at this price point with this prestige/heritage. Of course the people who have a 35k mile car with zero issues will protest and complain - but there's some cars out there with serious issues, and people returning them because of that

so what's this mean to me? well, i probably would have gotten a Taycan (knowing what i know now) that came off a lease or was returned with low miles STILL UNDER WARRANTY and gotten a $25-30k discount off the new price. THIS IS BASED OFF THE CURRENT CARS ON THE MARKET.

maybe if i do love the Eletre or the Emeya when i finally see one i 'd have a different answer. But right now the Taycan is still one of the most beautiful cars on the road. And i honestly think there's no comparable cars out there

I just don't think it's current new pricing is supported by the issues many of them have and the limited range, especially in winter

Got my 22 CT4 in Dec 21 for sticker price and the $7500 tax break. I would do it again and probably will someday in the distant future when I am ready to trade in this car. I love it and the car is a blast to drive. I will add that I am going to get the Porsche extended warranty for it. I have never purchased an extended warranty in the past. Hopefully I never need it, but it would put my mind at ease about some of what I think would be expensive items to fix on the car.

To complete the picture, I've found a Turbo Sport Turismo Technical Data Sheet that states:
Drag coefficient Cd (in Range mode in combination with low ride height and closed cooling air flaps) 0.25

I have owned 3 Taycans and loved them all. I absolutely will buy another. I also own 2 Speedsters and a new GT3 but drive my Taycan daily.

I would not buy a Taycan again. My 2020 Taycan Turbo was an excellent car to drive. The software bugs kept the car in the shop for a total of four weeks, which was longer than any Porsche I have owned going back to 2001. The range was on the low end and using the Porsche Mobile Charger was a process of unplugging to get the car to activate a session.

I had a change to lease a Turbo S at the end of my lease and I ended up getting a Polestar P2 and I kept my Panamera GTS.

Seeing people say that they are getting a winter range of 230 miles makes me jealous. Here in Wisconsin with temps often in the teens and some single digits, I typically get about 160 miles on a 90% charge. Right now it's around 0 degrees F and my range is about 150 miles at 90%. Conversely, I drove our Hyundai Santa Fe gas SUV down to Chicago last weekend in the same weather and the drop in range was 15-20%, nowhere near the drop we get in these EVs, which is generally around 40%. It's a real problem for those of us driving for a good chunk of the year in cold temps. Even the new Macan EV with an ideal highway range of about 310 will likely get under 200 miles at full charge in cold temps. It means that those of us in cold climates often still need a gas car for the winter.

Hmm. It’s 11 here now and down to -7 the other day. I just looked and our car is 76 miles at 37% which is still over 200 full. And I think this is the lowest I’ve seen the range. Usually sits around 220-230 (if it were full) over winter.
