I did not see any magic docs but didn’t look. This location is in Charlotte NC SW of town.
The picture clearly shows a V4 post/pedestal, which has an integrated Magic Dock adapter.
However, without the adapter deployed, hard to discern its presence.

Good idea. I'm surprised nobody here has tried this before.
I have tried this @ Scotts Valley, CA - couldn't get it to work.

the stalls in Scott's valley are V3 stalls - and the magicdocks are retrofitted - if you try and start a charge session for a non-Tesla you have to use the stall's "adapter" - the stall can sense if the Adapter has been deployed - and I could not get the charging session to start with the Tesla adapter still in the stall's holster - and once the adapter is extracted it's "locked" onto the end of the of the charging cord so you can't remove it and use your own adapter…

admittedly I've only tried hte one Magicdock site, but I could find no way to "trick" the stall into letting me use my own adapter due to the sensors "knowing" if the adapter was still in the stall's holster or not…YMMV

the V4 stalls do all have magicdock - they are well hidden and only visible upon close inspection - the V4 stalls I used in Capitola, CA clearly have the MagicDock adapters, but this particluar site does not have/allow MagicDock use…

I have never had opportunity to use a V4 MagicDock site…so I'm not sure how the OP got their own adapter to function with a working charging session…

mysteries abound

but I'll stand by my analysis that the Superchargter network is still "locked" down for general use, and _IF_ a VW/Audi/Porsche vehicle is allowed to charge it's one of two things:
  1. MagicDock site
  2. a fluke

That picture clearly shows a V4 post/pedestal which by definition has an integrated Magic Dock adapter.
If that adapter is activated (which it is not at some small percentage of V4 stations) then a CCS1 driver can use a separate adapter instead of the integrated adapter (which of course is a totally pointless substitution).
If you tell the Tesla app you have a Taycan, then it causes the Magic dock to present the built in adapter. The only way I could see to use a NACS adapter would be to tell it you have a car that has a built in NACS port. (unless I am missing something..!)

I'm not surprised, since it's kind of a pointless endeavor.
There would be multiple possible purposes to know this. One, know of something to try should magic dock malfunction. Two, it would tell you whether or not the superchargers with magic dock do different kind of client car validation than regular ones, or is this "allow any car" flag implemented in the magic dock itself, or the logic to release the magic dock instead of NACS. Dave's experiment tells us that Tesla did some extra hardening around this, hence he was unable to just pull out the NACS connector and activate a charging session. It suggests, thought not confirms, that activating a charging session actually includes whether or not to release the magic dock, but perhaps also what car manufacturer to expect?

I could only get the cable to reach by almost touching the only V3 Magic Dock stall at a location without a curb, and don't want to take up multiple spaces to get close enough.
Unless it's a V4, I wouldn't waste time stopping there unless I had the upcoming A2Z extension cable.

The Tesla app shows only destination chargers available in San Diego County. All but one are (is) grey, one is red. Even the red one is a slow charger.

Perhaps the official Porsche adapter will actually include a length of wire (so an adapter/extension combination), similar to the old TeslaTaps. A foot of cable might make easy to plug into any SC (not it also allows you for a 90 degree turn, which makes it as if Taycan had a front facing port).

The problem with adding any cable is heat.

It would have to be REALLY thick cable to support DCFC rates, which doesn't seem practical without some sort of cooling...

Short cable, could be very thick to reduce heating. It only has to sustain high currents for 20 minutes, most cars will taper off (heck, stock 2020-2024 Taycan max out at 50KW - I have a ChaDeMo adapter with short cabling which can sustain 50KW no problem, it works to DC charge Teslas from ChaDeMo).

The last time I used a Magic Dock the adapter glitched out and the car wouldn’t release the charger for 20 mins.

Eventually after power cycling the car and pressing the release charge port button it came out.

I’m telling you - public charger infrastructure and Taycans is a nightmare.

I had the same happen with EA. Most common solution is to keep hitting the unlock button on the key fob to unglitch the state machine that thinks your car is locked (and therefore is not allowing the car to stop charging, not even from the PCM IIRC).

I always stop and unlock from the application after finding the outside button problematic.

Here's the A2Z cable;

said he used his own NCAS/CCS1 adapter…so I'm guessing no magicdock…
It’s possible to use your own adapter at magic dock locations. Pointless, but it will work.

That appears to be a V4 cabinet….there aren’t many of those around, especially in the US.

Where is this one located?
That’s a V4 pedestal. The cabinet is more than likely a v3.5.
