Brought my ‘22 4S in for service for a few issues after the big ‘23 software update. One of the problems has to do with SmartLift: not lifting at saved points, often not asking to save new points, asking if I want to delete a saved point if I try to save a point that it used to have saved but doesn’t lift on, and more. Turns out that Porsche says that there’s a software bug, not a hardware issue (no big surprise).

Porsche wants to want to keep my car for a few weeks while they track the problem down. The local dealer was able to get SmartLift working properly by resetting the system, but if a saved point is ever erased, it loses its mind, and it must be reset by the dealer again to work properly. Thought others on the forum might be interested in this if they’re experiencing similar issues. Hopefully it won’t take too long for Porsche to identify a fix.

Cheers,
John

Mine’s lost saved locations from time to time since new. BTW, when it asks you if you want to delete a saved location, it usually means that it engaged just before you pressed the button to engage it. It then interprets your input as shutting off the lift, and asks if you don’t want the location anymore.

I have NOT had the uPdate yet for my 22 Taycan and my smart lift saved locations seemed to have all stopped working. I’ve been manually pressing the lift button and it does NOT ask to save. A mild nuisance.

Definitely interested in this thread. My 2022 RWD was uPdated two weeks ago. It never forgot a SmartLift point before the uPdate. When I got my Taycan back, it didn't have any SmartLift locations, so I'm entering them again into memory. I won't erase any saved points per OP's advice.

Porsche wants to want to keep my car for a few weeks while they track the problem down.
@jcroix , I hope your local dealer gave you a good loaner. I wouldn't leave my car at the dealer for more than a couple of days for something like this.

I had this issue for around 2 weeks post uPdate (I cleared out my stored locations and created new but to no avail) and then it magically came back to life and no issues since.

My dealership has always been great (Austin Porsche). I have nothing but good things to say about them. Very customer focused, and always great to work with. This is my second car from them, the first being a 718S. They gave me a Panamera to drive around in while they’re working with corporate to figure out the problem.

I've stored some locations here around our home and it seems it's quite random how the smart lift works. Just few times heard "crrrrkk" from the front or rear when going over a speed bump...annoying (and probably expensive once the front lip actualy breaks).

Definitely doesn't work for me every time and with locations that I know I have stored. My software is June 2022 (the colored icons -version).

There can be a lag in the geo coordinates resolving - try approaching slower.

I noticed mine not lifting at my driveway that pre update worked flawlessly. I noticed it not working and honestly, I just drive in slow and at an angle and do not use the smart lift.

I hate seeing my car in the lift mode, and it was impossible to put it in the low mode once I parked in my driveway (preupdate) as the smart lift kept overriding my manual choice.

The software should allow the car to smart lift at desired locations, while in drive, and then put it in your desired setting for park. If anything, it would keep the bags from sitting in the inflated mode all night in my driveay and secondly, I could enjoy seeing my car in the low mode :D

mine, too, is intermittent. no real discernable pattern. I did at one point delete the one by my house so i could recreate it further away (give it more time to lift). I'm also a Porsche Austin customer but they can't have my car to troubleshoot :)

I noticed that post uPdate, the locations were still in the memory but did not trigger as quickly as before. I decided to delete all of the locations, and I saved the driveway location for my house further away. It now lifts just before my driveway. FYI, homelink triggers perfectly which is strange since it uses the GPS feed.

So just got a call from Porsche Austin. They said that, after going around and around with Porsche corporate, Porsche finally acknowledged that there’s a known software issue with SmartLift. Why it took them so long to acknowledge this to one of their dealerships is beyond me. It does appear, though, that my car needed a reset since it’s now behaving properly with one exception: lift point deletion. My other issues (not lifting, not asking to save new lift points, etc) have been addressed through the reset Porsche Austin performed.

Here are the instructions I was given with respect to lift point deletion:
* Don’t. If I don’t delete them, the system should work as advertised. It should lift at all the correct points, and it should ask if I want to add new points when I hit the lift button.
* If I do delete a lift point, I‘ll see strange behavior. In that case, I need to let the car go to sleep, at which point it should reset itself. The next time I get into the car, it should be back to normal.

If this all holds, it’s still a substantial improvement over my past experience since the software update. I can live with that. I was also told that I can register any complaints with 800-PORSCHE. I wasn’t told this, but I get the impression that customer complaints to 800-PORSCHE are taken more seriously than issues raised by the dealerships.

I hope this info helps others with their SmartLift issues.

Cheers,
John

@jcroix - My car is at the dealer for the AC issue. What is needed to reset for the Smart Lift? Is it something the dealer needs to do (I can have them do it before I pick it up) or does letting the car go to sleep "reset'?

Thanks

PIWIS reset - your dealer will know.
