Spending weekend in Lake District, UK. Plugged into hotel destination charger - which worked fine yesterday.

Today it charged at 22kW for about an hour and then got a charging error.

When I went out the charger was dead. Car showing this error and refusing to go into any gear or move.

Any ideas?

We had a fright on our last west Texas sojourn that I am 100% certain was related to a certain destination charger. Long story short but dealership recognized it as an infrastructure error i.e. external device. It put up the ominous Electrical System error and to park in a safe place - could not start the car.

So in the parking lot we basically let the car sleep (locked) for 25 minutes and when we returned, it started right back up and has had zero issues since. Guessing you have tried this already?

Isn’t there a CTRL-ALT-DEL for this car somewhere on the dash?

Sorry, I know that doesn’t help, but it’s a serious question. There must be a way to force a soft-reset on the car? My Audi is not an EV but I‘ve had several issues with the instruments and infotainment when it was new with early software and would become completely unresponsive and frozen. Dealer taught me to press and hold the volume knob for 10 seconds which forces a soft reset and everything reboots and problem solved every time until a software update eventually addressed the recurring issue.

There is an engineering reset process in Taycan. It did not help in this case.

Surely there’s somewhere closer to take it to?
Yeah, there are closer Porsche Centre's here in UK – but they won't be open on a Sunday – either way I'll be leaving my car behind in a different country.

This is not the first time I've had to find my own way home after taking my Taycan out for a weekend (or longer).

Anybody who has read my road-trips here will know how much of an enthusiast I am for these cars and Porsche in general. I joined this forum to be positive – not negative about this amazing vehicle.

But I – and my family who are also stranded – feel like we can no longer rely on or trust this particular MY21 vehicle. Be interesting to see how this works out.

Given this vehicle's history – is it the 22kW AC charger striking again? I'll be sure to update this thread with the eventual outcomes.

sorry to hear this.
Stories like this have made me distrust my 4S, and it isn’t even here yet. I’m not exploring far from home until it’s broken in and I know what to expect. Wonder if this the the kind of brand Porsche is shootin’ for.

There has to be a way to “reset it” after the inspection. I would definitely disconnect the 12v battery.

Not sure if anyone from Porsche reads these posts. But if there are, please take a lesson from Tesla (not rocket science) here. My 2013 Model S has failed many, many times (sometimes on long trips) but it always went into a “limp” mode that allowed me to always get home. Cut power, cut accessories, cut environmental control, heck limit speed, but stop stranding your customers!

Glitchy PCM, interior controls, etc, I can live with but nothing will get me to sell this car (I haven’t even received yet) faster then if I feel it will put my family in dangerous situations. This is unacceptable!

Damien,

You have been a huge proponent of the Taycan and your trips have been inspirational ... very sad and dissapointing to see the vehicle let you down and stranded so far from home. I hope you make it home with a minimum of additional drama..

@tigerbalm Isn’t the yellow error message supposed to be less severe than the red error? The yellow error wouldn’t allow you to drive the vehicle?

@masmole @Marcad80 I completely agree there should be a reset feature to enable, at least, an attempt for a recovery. We’re dealing with Windows 95 blue screens without the ability to reset the computer.

When my Taycan was stranded with the red Electrical System Error, I asked the shop foreman if there was a way to reset the car and he said there is no way for a customer to do so. I asked about the 12V “jump start” procedure a buddy with a first year Taycan told me about, and the foreman indicated that procedure would effectively reset the car. Similar caveat that it was not recommended due to myriad things that could go wrong unless done exactly right.

I had the red electrical system fault back on Feb 15th but the 12V systems all functioned fine. I didn’t have jumper cables long enough to reach where my Taycan was parked so I just had it towed. The prognosis is a new central computer module which still has no ETA as of today.

That was my hope too – but it has been persistent. The car switches on – no 12V issue either – but it will only go into either Park or Neutral. It refuses to go into Drive or Reverse and therefore is stuck.

As its just sunrise here now – will be contacting Porsche Assistance shortly.

If it does have to get lifted onto tow truck – thankfully its stuck somewhere with plenty of room around it. Hate to think of this happening in a multi-story car park – where often hotel destination chargers are located.
