Recall update refused!

Do cars produced last week also have this stalling issue or would they have the new update preinstalled?

The US recall document says cars produced on or after June 25th have the new version.

I actually produced that document at the dealership and was still refused; they said they simply cannot perform the update until the system shows it's available for my vin. Like it's locked out.

The same docs say dealer and customer notification will happen on Aug 27 so it is too early to get the update unless you experience the issue ?.

Well, it kinda sucks then because I want to take a road trip but not until this is fixed. Interestingly, I overheard the sales people talking about it...one (1) of their Taycans has been updated and is cleared for test drives.

I took delivery of my RWD 10 days ago after it sat for 30 days in Jacksonville.

On July 2, brought the car in for the dealer to try to get Connect working (still not working). While there, the dealer did the just released software update which they mentioned is the current recall version.

When I heard that Porsche's "OTA" updates needed the car at the dealership, this is exactly what I was afraid of: it becomes a cost/payments issue for Porsche and the dealerships.

At the time, I'd thought about it more from an investor's perspective: here's a critical agility/cost difference that Tesla and other companies with fully working OTA now have.

I kinda missed the more important part: From a customer perspective, this just went from "conveniently updates in my garage" to "I need to take it to Porsche" to "I need to take it to Porsche and Porsche/the dealer need to agree that my car deserves an update". This is going to go down the same road as arguing for a maps update etc. used to be: rules you have to research, stupid exclusions, and, I'm sure, a few dealers trying to charge for it too.

In other words, this quickly went from inconvenient to a pain-in-the-ass few people do.

At least you get a free carwash when you have to leave it at the dealer for a software update...

That's not universally true, depends on your dealer. And at some dealers, you're better off NOT LETTING them wash your car.

I guess I am lucky with my dealer (Princeton Porsche). Always a free hand-carwash. never issues with getting a decent loaner, ... It is true that some of our fellow members on this forum shared horror stories about their dealer's lack of customer service.

I guess this makes some corporate economic sense, unless someone gets killed or seriously injured. I am no lawyer but this sure sounds like it could get into the realm of criminal negligence if someone is injured or killed.

I'm sure they made the decision at the top level that the probability*severity << cost for proctivism now. Just like any business.

But we can put together a petition and send to Porsche executives saying that we want this update immediately, and that if there is injury/accident resulting from non-implementation of this at the earliest opportunity, then a class action lawsuit would ensue. Obviously then only bite matters, not bark.

I have an appointment scheduled at 7:30 am for the update tomorrow. I guess I will know in a couple of hours if the dealer will actually perform the update or not.

I'm trying another dealer myself tomorrow morning. My vin still doesn't show on Porsche's recall site or safercar.gov, but the VIN is definitely in window on the NHTSB safety recall report.

I got the same response in Dubai. Seems like the message has to appear on the system and only then will they carry out the update. Thy did say some 4s and Turbos have come in for a recall. Not sure if it’s for the same issues.

I would think that if they gave you an appointment for an update that they would install the update.

So I tried another dealership this morning...the service advisor was happy to check my VIN for the update, but warned me it would require keeping the car "2-3 days" to apply.

2-3 DAYS. For a 90 minute software update.

Absolutely unacceptable. I told him to forget it!

I'm so over this stupid bullshit at this point, I'm just going to take my chances with the shutdown.

Sucks. My dealer is wonderful to work with. They told me ~1 hour. Come in Saturday for update while I enjoy their weekly brunch including custom omelets.
