I'll be making a 300+ mile trip to Las Vegas soon, where temps have recently been in the 110-115 degree (F) range.

Some posts on this forum alluded to the fact that extreme cold can decrease range. What about extreme heat? This is my first EV so a bit unfamiliar with temperature-related issues, if any.

Once in Las Vegas, I'll be parked in a air conditioned garage, so I'm just concerned about the time spent on the road. Any range considerations I should take into account with regard to extreme heat?

So I don’t have experience driving my 4S in cold weather since I received it in April here in Phoenix. With that said, my starting range has gone up as it’s gotten hotter. No doubt the car uses energy to cool the battery and run the AC, but I don’t know that heat zaps the range quite like the cold does.

Perhaps it’s just a coincidence, but I have been having more frustrations at the newer, usually reliable EA chargers I use since it got crazy hot here over the last couple of weeks.

Just did SF to LA round trip with temps topping out over 118 for a 6 hour trip. No issues the battery is fine up to 145 and going 80-90 mph the temp stays around 93 the entire time. During charging battery was at 125 or so and the fans were going hard. Cooled off after getting going again though.

If anything keep driving at sustained faster speeds to keep temp down if you are worried.

The EA chargers on the other hand... not great in sun & heat.

I am sure EV veterans know this, but I really appreciate that unlike ICE cars,, we don't have radiators that heat up the garage. I live in the US Pacific Northwest and we are entering a 10 day period of 100-118 degree F high temperatures.

My Taycan will also be my life raft in case there are any power outages.

95F day here in california during Scenic drive on Hwy 25 - battery temp was 94F…these cars are fine in the heat - very little impact to range - other than AC load which is manageable

car will throttle power at 132F battery - but it shouldn’t be noticible unless you are asking for full pedal…

The first few charging cycles (1000 miles) the range will go up as the car "learns" environment and driving style. Then it levels off and you can see clearly the effects of heat (use of AC) and cold (heating battery).
