How attractive is the Taycan really to car thieves?

Ideally you don't leave them visible from outside.
But don't hide them either.
You don't want to be fighting a masked gang at 3am in your bedroom (personal experience a few years back).

Leave them downstairs, but hidden from outside view. That said, I did that.....and they still thought we had them in the bedroom!

Correct.
I found that out when mine was flat bed to the dealer for the heater this month.

Car was unlocked and alarm activated.

Did any neighbours come to see what the fuss was about? Reckon most would presume legitimate recovery etc. rather than theft. A high vis jacket is a passport to everywhere.?

There’s plenty of Taycan components on eBay for example. Not that I’m suggesting those listed there are necessarily illegal / proceeds of crime.

I’m aware of black/grey market, but still - one can use wheels, but not tyres with sensors that needs to be registered & connected with VIN by Porsche software.
I’m quite sure that stollen Taycan is simply too hot, with very low “ROI’.

Automakers should add “Pin to Drive” like Tesla has. It’s a simple but very effective defense against those relay attacks.

As far as I’m aware for many components, you just need VCDS (formerly VAG-COM) for any coding. They’re not tied to the VIN and the car doesn’t necessarily need to ‘call home’ for authentication. For some faults/diagnostics yes, but by no means all. So the individual parts would have value to the right person.

My father's in law 1990 Peugeot 406 had an antitheft pin pad. It was kinda cool having to enter the code before being able to start the car... That being said, 10yr later the pad failed and my father in law asked the local shop to just disable it. Took them... 10 min. Kinda makes you think why he put the code several times a day for 10yrs...

I didn't mind it. They streamlined the process by removing the start/stop button.

I just sit in the car, close the door, fasten seatbelt…and move to Drive…. No need to push start button at all.

Did you have a perimeter alarm setting ? set at night with impact sensors on all windows and doors?

We had just moved in.....
Victorian terrace with no alarm.
The front door had 3 locks on, but they just smashed it off its hinges.

I had mentioned it before on here somewhere....? It's not something you forget in a hurry.
Sold the house afterwards.

Sorry to ask but did you recover the vehicle?

It was a few years ago.....way before Taycan. It was rife then in Manchester - where I lived.

Two cars taken.
My R32 never recovered - but used in some local armed robberies. One of which on Aug Bank Holiday Monday at a charity event at a pub.... they rocked up at closing time and got the manageress on the bar and threatendd to chop her arms off with an axe unless they got the days takings.

Girlfriends Mini Cooper S Conv was chased with false plates on by Police a few weeks later. It crashed into someones garden. It was only a few weeks old, but was not quite damaged enough to write it off. ?

The whole thing turned into quite a nightmare.

But..... You can't let the ba5tards win - otherwise they have won.
?. They are probably locked up 24 hours a day now, or no longer around.
