This company does not know how to communicate efficiently with its customers and this has been the consensus established in many prior threads. :CWL: Just sayin.
It's a little more nuanced than just a blanket statement about their ability to communicate. Porsche is very good at communicating marketing material (selling Porsche as a brand and a lifestyle). Buy this, attend this, look at what we are releasing, here we are racing... Based on the post sale communications from my dealer I have to suspect that PCNA has a requirement that dealers reach out to the customer after delivering a car (could be just my dealer I suppose but they were quite conscientious keeping in contact). Letting the owners in on the inner working of their cars? Now that would fall under "This company does not know how to communicate...".

Yes. Yes we do.

Getting software updates applied at the dealer was a nightmare, sometimes spanning TWO DAYS (and more if they managed to brick the car.)
I am very open to OTAs. Usually a fast follower on updates... e.g. new iOS update, wait maybe a day or two after release to make sure no major issue is happening.

If it does turn out that this update is the "calendar update" that others a referencing that is pretty lame and a non event.

Someone on another thread talked about an update to addressing the brakes. That is the one that got me thinking...if there was ever an update to brakes, do I want to be the one testing that the update worked and that my brakes still work? If it is really good software, I am sure you can get it to check itself and hopefully that is what they are doing.

As long as the software engineers working on the automotive part of the Taycan are not the same as the ones working on the PCM (by the way mine is pretty flawless but hard to say it is groundbreaking software) I am ok.

I do not get this negativity to OTA updates. If they issue an update it is because something needs to be fixed. If you think you know your car better then Porsche does then you should start an EV company because you can get rich fast.

Just because your car is working fine now does not mean that in a few years time it will. WNW2 is to fix longevity issues on the high power battery. Why not update?

Bricking the car is not a valid argument.

Just do it! It will make your car better.
This.

Calendar updates don’t require shutting down the car. I think someone confused one of those PCM updates with a big OTA car update.

The notice is for an update that will require you to authorize the installation, exit the car, and lock the car (this sounds like a "Major" update to me), just like the last major update that was announced on 7/17/23.

For the record - I'm a big fan of SW updates and see no downside to installing all that come my way. In fact, I like the fact that Porsche seems to be getting their act together on OTAs, and I am hopeful for more in the future.

I'm not aware of anyone complaining that the last OTA run July bricked their car, so it seems Porsche is making real progress. Of course shit does happen, but the concern "But what if it bricks my car?" feels like fear mongering to me.

+1 on all of that - and yes Calendar updates are clearly in the 'infotainment' update category by contrast to this which is to do with the car's primary systems (at least I can guess as no other info provided! :)).

But for ref - the July OTA system update did appear to do something to certain car's charge ports - mine included - e.g. two other cars from Texas dealerships reported a similar issue immediately ofter the OTA installed, namely I cannot charge with my EVSE on the LHS charge port - going in Sept 11 to fix. Others were able to get theirs sorted through reboots etc but numerous attempts with mine has not resolved the issue. Luckily the RHS port works as advertised so not directly impeding use of car.

I received the email too. I hope they add the video features (at least on the passenger screen). I hate it when my Tesla friends show me off with their YouTube videos and play games in their screens.
Tesla drivers need video games to make up for the lack of driving experience ?

I received the OTA email and app notice today.

Later, in the car, on the PCM I received an OTA update notice about a calendar update. The notice then disappeared, and I can no longer find it anywhere, not under updates or notifications. I am a bit confused.
Same here, had a pop up that Calendar has been updated, otherwise 0 Notifications and Update states that all is up to date.

If so, what they wrote is poorly worded, emphasis added:

I have been getting s/w updates (maps and other small things) for the last three years, so no need to mention how to get OTA updates.
Me too. So I went out and tried to “get” this new one on the garage and … no joy. But I do get the map updates on the road. So WTH?

But those updates do represent the ability for the car to receive ota updates. So there’s no reason they aren’t getting done in the garage.
I.. ok. The big challenge with “OTA” is not the delivery; it’s the software equivalent of replacing the engine while the plane is in the air. (I apologize if this offends, it’s an analogy we use often internally - I haven't chosen it somehow based on your avatar’s name or anything.)

Doing live sw updates is difficult without isolating the device (from user interactions), as the same code that provides the functionality is being replaced while running. When the malfunctioning of that “device” can place lives at risk, the protocols for making a change to core functionality are very strict. It’s easier to test those protocols - and assert their safety - in a “locked car” scenario than it is in a regular city/highway driving. It’s also easier to employ the same update mechanism for both calendar and, say, HV power electronics.

Put simply, why take the risk?
