That's interesting.....makes sense with the wear.
I've got a few of those near where I live, and I have to drive over them, straddled most days.

The council has just (needlessly) put some more up, so I may re-think my route.
Or just mount the bump with one wheel.

My friend had a BMW 1 series and experience the exact same tyre damage and it was down to these speed bumps. He changed to 'taking the bump' with one wheel, and that solved the issue.

I always nail it down the middle.
Even in the comedy wide Taycan the bumps are far enough apart to make it much less of a hump and the outside edge of the tyres take the strain as the superior strength is designed to do. As said, NEVER straddle a single hump.

Never 'straddled' a speed bump - definitely not the cause of the complete delamination of the inner sidewall/tread.

Agreed.
Don’t straddle but it wouldn’t trash tyres that badly.
My mate has just had 4 tyres replaced on a CT4.
He checked pressures and visual checks but never inner sidewall as not easy to see and he didn’t think the uneven wear would happen.
2yrs old and 20k miles. In that time at least 12k miles going to French Alps and back on Autoroute. Always in Range mode maxed out at 90mph/130kph ish.
All tyres absolutely wrecked on inside shoulder.
One through to canvas.
One through to the wire!
Very dangerous.
It’s the lowered Suspension.
In range or sport plus.
Only use range mode at lower speed to reach that charger.
Sport plus on a track.
Don’t do long distance fast in the lowest suspension setting.
At high speed long distance keep suspension up higher to save your tyres. It’s marginally less efficient.
This is (at least partly if not wholly) the cause of inner sidewall wear due to suspension geometry.

The inner wall tire wear issue has happed to me. Wondering if there are any root causes that people found? Obviously need a new set of tires, but don’t want the same thing to happen again!

I’ve just had the two fronts replaced at Porsche’s urging for this very thing. It does seem that my use of Range mode (when I’m just plodding to and from West London for work with Innodrive active and not really ”driving” the car) has been a cause. Despite not having slammed it into a pothole or such like, the alignment was also horribly out and the ensuing 3 way ding-dong between the lease company, their chosen tyre company and Porsche was fun to observe, or at least it would have been, had it not been my wounded car at the heart of it.

FWIW, the known names in the UK likely don’t have the kit to carry out a 4 wheel alignment on a Taycan, especially if it’s equipped to the gunwales with ADAS such as Innodrive and also RWS. I think my lease company had a fit when they finally had to acquiesce to Porsche and let them do it.

That said, it’s transformed the car and I have a small sense of satisfaction that I’m really getting my money’s worth out of my lease payments. ?

after 56k km / 35k mi , about 75% in lowest setting (range/sport plus) on highway
I find the range mode excuse a bit easy from the dealer.

This is very interesting data. I wonder if the 'inner shoulder wear' on the rear tires is due to driving in 'lowered' mode? I did that on a regular basis, and had an actual separation of the sidewall from the tread on both rear tires without significant wear on the tread. For everyone who's seen this - are you driving a lot in lowered (range) mode?

Didn't see this thread when I posted this : (27) Do I need new tyres? | TaycanForum -- Porsche Taycan Owners, News, Discussions, Forums

Same deal.

Fortunately one of the rears let go surprisingly gently pressure-wise on me, rather than anything big.

I would imagine 40%-60% of my miles are in one of the lower modes.

I have Hankooks on the rear now. Will see how they wear.

I guess the difference in height between "normal" and "sport plus" is pretty significant, so without some other automatic adjustment, it's going to be out of alignment. But like Vim, I've never seen wear like this - it's almost like the car's riding right on the inside corner of the tyre....or something's catching it.

I’m at 29k miles and 90% of those are in range (lowered) lowered mode on the highway. I’m gonna get the alignment checked on Monday.

Make sure you check the very inner shoulder of the rear tires. If they just check the tread they won’t see anything.

So this is a little astonishing. Isn’t the case with traditional non-adjustable sports car suspensions that the as the car leans towards the outside of a curve, compressing the suspension on that side, that the suspension is engineered to increase camber? And decrease as it comes back up exiting the turn?

So the Porsche air suspension raises and lowers the Taycan but with the camber change of a regular suspension and no compensation for height setting? So in the lowered modes, you drive straight highway miles on significant positive camber? Maybe I’m naive, but I thought something smarter was being done on a height adjustable car.

Or is it just that all these cars are out of alignment, and it isn’t getting checked/realigned as frequently as it should due to prohibitive complication and costs?

The 21" ProContact RX all seasons on Mission E with my RWD/air/PTV+, used almost exclusively in Range mode, were taken off at 29,523 miles.
The fronts have 3/16" tread left, the inner band shows gradually increasing wear as it gets closer to the sidewall.
Rears have 5/32" left, inner band has this large increase of wear just as it reaches the sidewall, and the tread is almost erased there, eventually it would cord.

I've since changed to the same type of tire on 20" Turbo Aero wheels for increased efficiency, doesn't seem like much so far, but the real test will be this winter or on wet roads.

My go forward strategy will be using higher Normal mode off highway, which includes sharper turns, so less negative camber and therefore less rear inner tire edge wear.

This 100%.

I check tread wear regularly, but never noticed this. I will in future.

My Michelin PS4 were shot all round at 18k. Rears down to the chords.

I don't drive like a lunatic. Majority was commuting - not in Range mode.

I had chassis set to 'Sport' the whole time (except when the car adjusted it) and ride height set to 'medium'.

21 RWD / PB+ / air suspension.

On the new tyres, I am driving in 'Normal' to see if that alters anything.
