Concur - another reason why cancellations (of all new cars) are about to accelerate.

Era of cheap money is over.

Were I to get an 8% PCR deal on my GTS ST, I would be looking at about £18k in interest over 36 months assuming a £50k deposit.

Eye watering.

I'm paying cash assuming I too don't cancel if I decide to move abroad permanently.

Certainly communication from dealers has been poor, but in fairness I think that’s driven by poor communication from Porsche GB which is driven by poor communication from Porsche AG.

I certainly have more sympathy with those who had finalised a specification but who might not end up with all those options on the car when it eventually arrives.
Yep, absolutely. I wasn’t clear about where I believe the communication problem lies and it’s with Porsche AG in my opinion.

Have read them refusing cash and insisting that finance is taken out on a number of cars recently.

Absolutely wild times when people don't see cash down as an incentive. It's all going to change before too long I guess.

This sounds bizarre! I am about to get my car soon and will be paying in cash, they have not mentioned anything to me about having to take out finance.
I know two people looking for (albeit) second had cars in their show room and the franchise insisting that they couldn't just buy them in cash there and then and insisted they were to take finance to secure the car.

It must make them more money.

If that’s true it’s outrageous and I suspect goes against all obligations sellers (and finance houses) have to treat customers fairly.

This is absolutely the case with the likes of GT cars. Has been for years. First ive heard this on a 2nd hand car.

If they refuse my cash I'll refuse the purchase!

It's unusual to buy a car outright. The entire industry is built on financing, otherwise very little profit is made.

I won't be a profitable customer for Porsche - at least when it comes to financing.

Plus they try and upsell GAP insurance and PPE - go direct, save thousands and get a better end product.

I was going to buy a new I4 outright this summer, in cash. Sytner.

I could tell the dealer was pissed off about it.

I never went ahead with it in the end, but I suspect Porsche (also a Sytner dealer) won't be happy when I bank transfer them the full six figures ?

Yup, both people turned down the offers.

As it was, both cars were also sold within days so someone else was clearly keen enough / desperate enough to pay over the odds for them.

It's funny you mention this, just had the call I have been waiting an eternity for to say my car has arrived at the dealership and should be ready to pick up in a weeks time.

Whilst on the call GAP insurance was mentioned as something thoroughly recommended (of course I am well aware to say no and go elsewhere), he also mentioned they have "upgraded" the wheels and alloy protection to now include chips and dents...for just over £600 for 3 years protection. I may consider that one once I see the details in an email he is going to send me.

Oh and to confirm, they are "happy" for me to pay cash. Bank Transfer needs to be made at least 2 days before pick-up of the car.

Ha it's like the old days with Currys where they had to upsell an extended two year warranty on something that already came with a guaranteed 12m warranty since after that time, the probability of the appliance breaking was near to nil based on normal use and life expectancy.

That + accessories is how they made profit.

Similar thing with dealers, especially those not owned by Porsche. The money they make is on the extras + financing, not the actual sale of the product itself.

Congrats with the car, plus your smart means of procurement in todays economic climate.

Share pics!

Didn't apply to my GT3!

However, I can believe that they take account of who is likely to be paying cash and who would be using finance when handing out the allocations for certain 'halo' cars.

I have obtained a finance quote from Porsche finance, but will be paying cash. To be honest I didn't read the small print on the order form, but I'm 99.99% confident that there is nothing in there about having to use finance.

In any case I'd then simply take the finance and immediately pay it off!

With 21" wheels, I am tempted to go with the wheel/tyre insurance if it is £600 over 3 years.
That's basically one refurb and a new tyre!

Just a dealer try on. PRG sent me finance examples when I ordered and I tick the box for no finance. SA knows I'll be paying by CHAPS in a week or 3
