I ordered it on mine, solely because I once owned a Honda Clarity and forgot to close that port cover door all the damn time. My car is also black, so I didn't think the change in exterior appearance would be noticeable. Guess we'll see.

Do it! The sound of the small stones hitting the side of the car is horrible.

we will try to retrofit the electrical one. Anyone here that has triee that?
parts will be about $4,500 (paint etc) and Porsche doesn't allow for the software update, so for now it can be fitted, but not activated.

I'm a fan of keeping it simple, less things to break and more importantly, fix. Though, I do really like the gimmicky sliding charge port door. What's the reliability of this door? On the FB forum I follow, I see that people complaining of the charge port door doing partial opens, partial closes, etc.

What's people experiences with this so far? Any dealership visits to fix anything?

There are plenty of issues with them failing on here.

And given the open vent issues with dirt/stones etc - the best option might be to get the manual doors and block the vents (mesh or similar).

Exactly… it’s going to show no matter how you do it with the manual flaps. Also I don’t quite agree with petrol tank comparison - you only fill up every 4-500mi, but you’ll top up much more often with a Taycan. So for an average weekly use, I’d say you’ll operate at least 3 times the flaps, obviously way more during a holiday trip. Worth every penny imho!

Interesting comparison vs the volcano grey above, the blocked vents obviously create some « halo » protection for muck (and therefore stonechips I’d assume) on this Gentian blue I drove

Hmmm.... now you gave me even more to think about. Would I rather see fingerprints on the port, or this "halo" clean(er) zone? Either will show how dirty a white car is. At least with the charge port it will usually be only on one side (the port used for home charging). Swinging back to not wanting a powered port because it blocks the vent.

We've seen this before with mesh and aluminum grille options to mount in the openings of other Porsche models (Cayman/Boxter/Carreras) so likely we'll see this too at some point as DITY option for those with manual charge ports.

Crazy prices for sure! Will need to block the opening in some way instead. ?

I got the manual ones, thinking less dirty hands and less risk of failure.

The first few months I cursed myself for forgetting to close half of the time. I have since gotten used to closing them (mostly).

However, now I'm cursing myself again because they went into failure: left side doesn't open at all anymore, while I'm constantly getting errors (including sounds) on the dash about the right one being open (while it's not) and the left one being out of order.

Still not sure I would take it next time though. I don't like the silly "spoiler" on it and still think the fingering requirement is silly. Considering also how unreliable the fingering of the door handles is.

I've not seen the issues on this forum with the electronic charge port failing and having to be fixed. Certainly there have been software problems that have caused all sorts of charge port issues, but I've yet to see a 'broken' electronic charge door that needed to be replaced. I'd be interested to see if this is actually a problem. The only common problem I've seen with the electronic charge port is it will automatically close on the DC flap if you forget to close the flap. That's happened to me a number of times, and no big deal. I do agree Porsche should have done something to prevent this from happening if the DC flap is left open.

This was just one thread. There have been quite a few posts about issues.....but not sure if its replacement or software issue though.

Not being negative. I didn't get the electric ports but would do if speccing now.

I have decided to go with the chargeport cover. I believe the Turbo S gets that by default anyway, so I doubt that Porsche would put that by default on a turbo S if it had a negative impact on the overall aerodynamics.
Now I will need to live with potential for one more thing not functioning as it should :)

Remarkable really that there are several threads in this forum about the equivalent of a petrol cap on a car costing well north of £100k…

My electric ones don’t work any more, nor can I charge the car and I have a 120 mile round trip to the dealers on Thursday. They’ll keep the car, give me a loan car ( a Cayenne apparently ) sort out the problem ( which seems to be well-known ) and some time next week, I’ll be able to do the same journey to pick it up… not great, eh ?

( Taycan S was new in March 2012, 6,000 miles )

That's bummer, totally unacceptable for them to drag their feet on something that is well known (similar to the alarm issue). How are you doing the 120 mile round trip without charge?

It was a one-way trip in the Taycan - back in the loan car. A Cayenne hybrid. Heard today that we can exchange cars next Wednesday afternoon/Thursday morning.
